Those older CAT machines are pretty incredible , if the charging system and batteries are in good shape , and fuel is appropriately treated they are cold weather staters beyond belief to me , hold that glow plug switch as prescribed and if they crank decently they'll rattle to life ! I'm grateful we don't have enough snow to have to move it with a crawler ! Never had to deal with a manual adjust blade but looks like a job for an ambitious young man on a nice day !!! Fun to watch your dad operate with the frosting on top !!! Hahaha Thanks for the video !!

A little leaf blower will usually get rid of show on parked equipment and vehicles pretty nicely. That depth of snow is totally a dozer job. Good thing you have one and a dad who likes to run it. My dad was the same way but he liked to shovel snow by hand till he was 87.

Great day had. A lot of what I did was square blading. 'U' blades with tilts(6-B's, 7-E's and 8-H's). A few like that (6-D's and 7-G's)with hydraulic tilts and some like that (4's, a 5 and 6-C) with manual tilts. And a 6-B with a 'U' blade with a foot tilt. You pay the light bill with whatever is sitting there that you can swipe before someone else comes to run it! Pop's not by hisself on running one of those but I'm not a big fan of suspended pedals and Deere steering BUT you pay the light bill with what's there. You can make a BIG snowman with Big chunks too! Who did you get to shoot that since you only work after dark! Just axing!

You'll get more rolling action on your angle blade if you pitch it back more to where the back of the blade is straight up and down. And the blade will stay clean. Looks like you would have to extend the lower push braces to do it.

At his age with probably the hours of experience has on one he could probably turn the angle of his blade n minutes. I know a guy who at the time was just 27 years old he could turn hisvblade in less than 20 mins by himself. It is amazing how good cat skinners get and make it look so simple. Giggles being a driver, i remember my first time dropping and winching up my blade to move a old D7 just say the afternoon was a long one thank god was sumer. But i did learn in time ways to do it effortlessly and made hauling one simpler

What’s your father’s favorite to ru dozer or the 170? I had a starter do the same thing on my 648 a few weeks ago except I tried hitting the key about a hundred times and nothing but a couple of semi gentle taps on the starter with a hammer and it fired right up and been fine ever since
