Hola.

THIS is how Paganini is supposed to sound! Not many sound like that. Yehudi Menuhin has the right idea too (e.g. paganini concertro no 2 first movement)..

Although the sound quality is not the best, the performance itself is very fervant and exciting with exquisitely beautiful high tone of the solo violin. Thanks for the nice upload!

I first heard this as a boy at the home of Lance Elbeck, a virtuoso in his own right, and never forgot it. Still the authoritative rendering of this work IMO. Would love to hear Alexander Markov play it....might change my mind.

There is a neat difference between Grumiaux and Ferraresi interpretations. Grumiaux seems playing like in a ballet, Ferraresi plays as a free soprano, more unpredictably and emotional. Technically are both very high standard, but Grumiaux is much less Paganinian...Cadenzas of the first movement show also this clear difference. The second movement has with Ferraresi an inachievable pathos. In the original score it was marked with the design of a hearth, expressing warm love.

One of the differences I hear is in the musical diction, where Aldo Ferraresi literally makes me feel he is "speaking" and "singing" in Italian through the violin and as a native speaker. I can't put into words well, but there is something I feel that is captivating and which draws me into the music so deeply along with the free flight unpredictability and other outstanding qualities of Ferraresi that you mentioned. I have been looking for this recording for more than 30 years. The first LP my parents purchased in 1955 with of this particular performance. Somehow the LP was lost of the years and I could not find the same anywhere. Does anyone know where it can be purchased?
