Whenever I hear Eschenbach, I recognize him instantly by his exquisite shaping of each and every musical idea and phrase. He transposes this rather simple Largo into an iridescent musical statement, heavenly in its delicacy and poignancy. Dynamically nuanced to an infinitesimally layered quietude, with a polished, gleaming melody. Pianissimo, singing melody with an even quieter bass. Almost...but not quite, inaudible. Captivating and graceful Menuettos follow. The surprising Allegro closes this great performance by a contrasting zeal and quickening of tempo!!

I absolutely agree with everything you say. Also the tempo of the first movt. is perfect - how many great pianists get it so wrong, especially that of the second subject?

Wunderschöne Interpretation dieser fein komponierten klaviersonate im gut analysierten Tempo mit klarem Anschlag und perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Der letzte Satz klingt besonders schön und echt lebhaft. Alles ist perfekt!
