A truly exquisite and sublime piece, but hard for me to listen to because it is so terribly sad, it always makes me cry…I can't help it :,-(

Performed by Oistrakh's highly lyrical sound of violin, this work sounds rather Slavic than French. The accompaniment of the Russian orchestra led by the excellent Russian conductor probably enhances what I feel. Definitely one of the five best performances of this outstanding masterpiece!

One can almost imagine the emotional turmoil the composer must have been in, while composing this beautiful poem. Almost heart wrenching isn't it? And ~ Igor Oistrakh is 'transporting' this emotion with great sensitivity and incredible virtuosity! Very b e a u t i f u l thank you!

It was was commissioned by Ysaye. The original name was "Le Chant de l'amour triomphant" or the song of triumphant love then it was changed to just poemé.
