Possibly my favorite Monty Python sketch ever. I don't even have a pond, let alone one that needs skimming. What am I doing here? Ha!

Brilliant David. I have been suffering with sediment coming off the bottom of the pool & floating on top of the water. This could be my answer to the problem. Many thanks for sharing. Phil North Devon

You have inspired me to attempt a large scale public swimming pond here in Ontario, Canada. I love the idea of low power usage and the pond cleaning itself organically. If it really works this well, why are other commercial applications using extensive piping and filtration?

Great idea, thank you very much for sharing. I have been wondering if one could use this simple, yet effective design of your, and add a biofiltre along the 4" pipe, by doing so, im forcing the water through the biofiltre at the same time im skimming the surface. Just an idea. Again, thank you for your videos, they have been very use full and may i add, lots of fun too. Greetings for Chile

you could also put a float on the box so that the unit floats on the waters surface an can be placed where you want it or have it just float all over the place as the hose allows. just a thought.

sounds great, especially if the water level fluctuates too much.

Hi David, how are you? I've been thinking about a floating (or fixed) filtration system, with the airlift system, where there would be a box full of bio balls. The airlift piping would come from below, causing the aerated water to pass through the bio balls and exit through a grate on the side of the box. What do you think of this idea?

Thanks for all the information you are providing.... I'm going to be building a pond next month here in Kentucky...I notice that most of the air supply lines go in the top of the bubbler is there any reason they shouldn't enter the bubbler from the bottom or side?....

Do you adjust height up and down relative to water level? or do you find your water level stays relatively stable?

So, to make a DIY skimmer (as per title), the first thing you need is a pool skimmer. Right. Sorry for being a stick in the mud but doesn't this defeat the object of DIY? Admittedly, if you just buy and use a normal skimmer, you don't get the unbridled joy of saying "flange" dozens of times.
@IwakuraKonata Жыл бұрын
It's a mod to make the skimmer work using only bubbles (air pump) instead of a regular water pump, same working principle, different suction force origin

@@2010wembley Clear as mud. A brief discussion of what an "air-lift" pump is and how it works would have been a much better use of time than watching him drill holes or repeatedly telling where water goes in and goes out. Also, what was it he dropped into the inner pipe at the very end? "This is what's known as a silblflfkspodlfksdfnkn".??? Huh???
