Who knew? The same mechanisms that are involved in brain degeneration, cardiovascular disease, and virtually any other chronic degenerative decline that we experience in our bodies is also at play on our bodies, meaning affecting our skin. Yes, free radical mediated stress and inflammation are the pillars of what causes good skin to go bad. So, with that in mind I felt it would be terrific to interview a leader in holistic approaches to skin care and plastic surgery, Dr. Anthony Youn. Let me tell you more about him.
Known as America's Holistic Plastic Surgeon®, Anthony Youn, M.D. F.A.C.S is a nationally-recognized, board-certified plastic surgeon. Recognized as a leader in his field, he is the author of the best-selling books “The Age Fix," "In Stitches," and “Playing God.” His public television special, The Age Fix with Dr. Anthony Youn, has been viewed by millions. Dr. Youn also hosts the popular podcast The Holistic Plastic Surgery Show. He is the most followed plastic surgeon on social media, with over 4.5 million subscribers on his KZbin Channel and 8 million followers on TikTok. His new book, “Younger for Life” is a complete holistic guide to turning back the clock using the process of Autojuvenation®.
I learned an awful lot today on this podcast and hope you do too.

Re: Toxic sunscreen. I have light Asian skin like you. At an outdoor summer wedding I sat next to my cousin who is very white complected. We sat in full sun, and I could not understand why my skin burned, but hers did not. I had been avoiding sunscreen because of the toxins. She wasn’t wearing sunscreen either. I was wearing sunglasses and she was not. A few months later, I ran across an article that explained how UV light enters the eye, telling the brain to produce melanin to protect the skin! That made sense to me, so I stopped wearing sunglasses which trick the brain into thinking ‘it’s safe, you don’t have to protect yourself! Whenever I was in the sun, which was a lot, gardening and outdoors all summer, I purposelessly would not wear sunglasses. Now, I get a beautiful, deep tan with zero burning! The only time I wear sunglasses is if I’m in driving, in the shade, or only for a moment if I’m trying to see something in bright sun. What an epiphany!

@@carolapostolos8929 some people are more susceptible. I would say all things in moderation. You don’t want to rob your brain of UV light which regulates all your bio rhythms either! If it’s hot enough to burn, just don’t go outside then. Or, of course you can put on sunscreen, but that causes skin cancer.

This whole 'anti aging' message that is so common in our culture is so incredibly toxic and needs to end. the fact he brings up that story of a patient dying is applaudable for me, he runs the risk of people blaming it on him , and viewing him in a negative light, but for the purpose to get his message of realization across and tell it how it is, he tells that story anyway. and i think thats how it should be. so many times people hide certain facts for the fear of being unjustly judged, and it causes more damage than it does good

Actually, the woman died because of her years of poor lifestyle choices: bad food, poor nutrition and blocked arteries... Which is what the good doctor is trying to help prevent in society by educating us on good nutrition and good lifestyle choices. We need more doctors and scientists like him, because we cannot trust the lettered acronyms in gov to tell us the truth!😮 The Food Pyramid has been upside down to create profit for big corporations!!!🤬 That's why there's a huge epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease! 😢

Good show. Fascinated that the doctors point out that you can tell a person’s lifestyle by looking at them. Years ago I sat at a food counter in a restaurant and the man next to me (who I did not know), was an MD. An ER doctor. We got to speaking of health. He said he could tell by looking at a patient how much they drink. I said ok, how much do I drink? He literally guessed the exact number of drinks I had a week. While it wasn’t excessive, it was routine. I had 3 small glasses of wine per week. Every week. I was shocked. I said ‘how do you know that??’ He said by looking at your skin and your eyes. I decided right then and there to quit my wine. To this day I’m still just blown away by his accuracy.

My advice, always get more than one opinion and absolutely do your own research! By the way, I heard absolutely nothing about vitamin C which is crucial in helping the human body create collagen.

Never smoked, very little alcohol, always had a healthy diet, used sunscreen, I exercise regularly- I've done everything right and plastic surgeons distroyed my looks! I had fillers that migrated and after having some of it disolved, I developed an autoimune response that manifested with muscle athrophy, skin thinning, joint pain, loss of volume in my hands and many more. My whole life has been affected in my 30s and I have been trying to heal this damage for the past 4 years.

I'm sad about the number of people I've mentioned intermittent fasting and autophagy to who were either worried about me, said that I was crazy or said that they could never do that. Most of these people are younger than my children, I'm 74, and have more self-inflicted health issues than I've ever dreamed of. Sometimes, actually often, I have to remind myself, it's their business not mine. Thanks for this video! ☮️💞🙏

I definitely agree with the sugar thing. I have had a few periods in my life where I have managed to completely eradicate sugar (including 'white' carbs) from my diet and my skin has looked amazing. With me it can't be any other thing because I don't use make-up or creams (including sun tan lotion, I cover up instead, long sleeves, trousers and hats and don't go out in the midday sun) and never wash my face with soap, just water. Currently my skin looks terrible because I spent the last six months being cruel to myself, eating loads of sweets, cakes and other rubbish but that has finally stopped. Fortunately, at least I don't drink pop, only peppermint tea and water so that helps a bit. The intermittant fasing is also brilliant - best bit is how the excess fat falls off all the right parts of the body the ones that never seem to shift when doing regular calory counting diets. Thank you gentlemen for sharing such an informative video.

Thank you, guys. I have read about keeping the same schedule, it's so hard because my job is afternoon to evenings and I've always had more energy at night, so I work into the night. But I'm trying to go to bed a few minutes early every night, to at least get back to my normal pre covid schedule. But thank you all for your support and kind words. 😊

Proteins can only be utilized by the body in the form of amino acids. In other words, proteins such as collagen are broken down into amino acids and can only then pass through the intestinal wall. Additionally, ribosomes can only build proteins from individual amino acids. Another reason why collagen will not be absorbed as such is the immune response it would elicit as a foreign protein. The conclusion is that consumed collagen cannot be directly incorporated into the skin's collagen by the body. So collagen is of no use via the parenteral route and direct application to the skin is also of no use because the skin barrier prevents substances, especially whole protein molecules, from being reabsorbed.

RE: glucose levels under control, high glucose levels can contribute to fatty liver which is now said to be where insulin resistance begins. Fatty liver affects liver function in that the liver detoxification pathways are not working as they should be, so the skin becomes a second source of detoxification instead, which is why you start to have inflammatory skin issues cropping up.

Dr. Youn is amazing. I follow him and i can say how he truly puts our interest in mind. I am turning 63 in August and i am a very late bloomer when it comes to chemical skin products so my skincare practice is based on what my mom taught me but they have helped to keep my skin at least not looking so bad. I am proud of my age but what im prouder more of is that i have a clean bill of health, no meds, and I am able to dance, do zumba, work out, dance salsa nonstop for 3 hours and thats why i share my pratices hoping to help others live healthy. When we live healthy and that includes exercise, it shows in our skin and attitude. I learned about sunblock only last July 2023 and wow, I wish i knew about it 20 years ago so now I try to save whatever skin I have.❤ i watch my sugar making sure i dont take it beyond what we women are allowed and I truly watch what i eat. Thank you Dr. Youn, for your brilliant advice!

I did the same by going plant based. Not because I wanted to save animals. But for my heart. My number are now amazing. And so is my skin. Plus, I have to admit, meat is so cannibalistic gross after you stop eating it for a while. My son pulled a steak out of the fridge that had gone bad a few days ago and it smelled was so awful, I almost threw up lol. Try going back and forth and see what works better or maybe they will be the same. Best of luck 😚☺️

Some people claim carnivore only. Others claim plant only. The gist of it is don't eat out and remove processed foods from your meals entirely. I cut out everything that has an ingredient which I don't recognize. And all things that have milk in them, including butter. The smallest trace of milk ingredient was making my skin weirdly oily and dry in different parts of my body. This is the healthiest I have ever felt. Best bloodwork of my life at 40 years old.

@@user-ql3xw4qx8v I've been pure plant based for 14 years and I feel amazing. I have no health issues, no allergies, no intolerance and I never have headaches and any other pain. The best thing was that all my period cramps and discomfort went away (maybe because farmed animals are given growth hormones and antibiotics - 70% of the antibiotics produced in the world are given to farmed animals, and that might affect the human hormones). I'm 47 now and I have a lot of energy (I practice capoeira and walk around 10km a day), but my face has melted quite a lot - however my body and my décolletage still looks young. The problem with the face is that I smoked for over 20 years (started when I was 13) + sunbathing without sunscreen till my early 30s, alcohol, a lot of exposure to pollution, some drugs and 4 teeh extracted for braces which changed my face structure quite a lot. If anything, a plant based diet, based on whole foods mostly, probably is keeping me healthy, otherwise I'd have developed a lot of diseases by now

Lovely interview!💟 About sunscreen.. some 4 years ago I made big changes in nutrients and supplements. Long story short: only outer parts in supermarket, no packaged food, occasional sinning.. No sugars, refined carbs, seed oils. A lot of fish and red meat, few veggies, only berries. Increased vitamin D3, A, K2, magnesium, boron, iodine, zinc/copper, manganese, potassium. After a few years I can stay in the longest sunniest summers and *I DON'T SUNBURN AT ALL!* note: I live in The Netherlands, which is not tropical 😂

I'm currently getting my esthetician license, however I have a lot of rebuttals to things that are taught but that's only because I'm interested more in the holistic side of things, which is the direction I plan to take my career. As far as sunscreen goes, I'm 100% against it due to the all toxic chemicals in it.
