I am in no sense a professional reader, voice actor, or what have you. I began this audiobook project some years ago when some friends of mine jokingly said they'd read A Song of Ice and Fire (my favorite fantasy series) if I personally recorded the whole series in audiobook form and sent it to them. Having now made my way almost through the first two books in the series, I decided to join the small community of people who post their own amateur audibook readings to youtube, and share my efforts.
I have no intention of profiting off of the work that is copyrighted to George RR Martin. This upload is a tribute to a series I deeply love, and I strongly encourage you to purchase these books. You won't regret it.
Also I should give full credit to my cat, Claudio, for the frequent background meows and purring sounds you hear throughout.

Read this book. Then listened to an audio book. Then 2wice or 3hrice more over a year. Just started listening to your reading of a storm of swords. But just Jon and Jamie lately. I've read the books and listened to the you tube audio books numerous times you are by far the best. Was interested how your reading of dunknegg would be. Well I'll be only be listening to your channel from now on when I get a hankering and don't have time to just pick up the books. I love your voices.

so blood raven got Dark Sister BEFORE being named Hand of the King. That's cool. i wonder what year that was. That line makes me think Bloodraven had something to do with Ser Arlan taking Dunk in. Probably not for coin, unless he spent it all. Maybe he took him on in place of ransoming back his stuff like how dunk almost looses his horse and armor. 😅

Ah, the sworn sword. A look into the countless conflicts between two lords of Westeros, and how a minor dispute that by all rights should have been settled by a royally appointed judge, escalates into a confrontation between a couple of knight's and some smallfolk digging a dam for their lord which she may or may not need, which escalates into a cut face, which escalates to a full blown near war between a landed knight and a lord, when the sane response would be for the weregild be accepted as compensation, but is instead rejected due to the lord fearing looking weak, thus forcing what could have been settled easily, into a fight where people will die. Its a great microcosm of the feudal politics of Westeros, and its a great example of what happens when a weak monarch rules and isn't able to uphold royal justice. Of course, thats not all there is to it. For one thing, this is a song of ice and fire, so there is of course the subversion element. For one thing, there is of course our asshole brown knight. He is an ass to dunk, to egg, to his lord, and is all around a terrible human being. The twist of course, is that from his and dunk's perspective in this first chapter, they are on the legal side of this conflict. These men are damming up a dam which from their perspective is 100% illegal. From the point of view of dunk and our asshole here, this is not a grey and grey conflict. By the laws of the land(and assuming the rights of house osgrey was exactly what it used to be), which they work with, Dunk and the red mouthed ass, would be in their full right to ride these men down, and kill them if they refuse to surrender. Of course, thats the legalistic point of view. Morally, these men are just doing what they're told, and they need this water just as much as the smallfolk of Standfast does. And then of course there is the real politik fact that house osgrey has three knights, a squire, and a fortified guard tower. House Webber has a strong and powerful castle, dozens of knights with crossbows, and a lady with a dark reputation. In a just world, this would be a matter for an impartial, royal judge to decide, and the power of the king to uphold whatever decision he makes. However, with Westeros monarch being as weak as he is, this instead becomes just another pissing match between two lords. The thing about lordly pissing matches though, is that people die in them. Usually people who really didn't do anything to deserve it. Looking forward to covering chapter 2, because the knight of Coldmoat is in my opinion one of the best characters Martin ever made.

@@kmac4124 That is fair. He does have so doofium moments, but I don't think he's stupid either. Honestly, I think it'd be pretty George-ian to have Dunk sound this way and still be as sharp as he can be. Ye old "Can't judge a book by its cover/reconsider your preconceptions." With the voice he has, plus his actions, he comes off as a street orphan that was taught to do less talking/"leave thinking to his betters", but he did and does pay attention. He's street wise, rural wise. Some of the stuff he tells Egg before they train the small folk is evidence of such. IDK though. I cannot hear another voice for him, but I'd love to! If you know of any readings/examples/people in fiction that you think Dunk'd sound like, please let me know.

@@plasmiusphantom i thought about last night and i was imagining his voice to be some what like a mix between the Hound and Gendry ...??? .....whatever that would be hahaha ! his voice on this audio/video just sounds too slow and like he's dumb , that's not how i hear him i guess .

The Gendry idea really helps! Dunk and he are both big, bastard King's Landers. I could see Dunk talking like a less angsty Gendry. Being apprentice to that blacksmith, I imagine that Gendry would still sound somewhat sharper than Dunk, but I see the vision. Have you tried the vid at 1.25x speed?

Curious as to why this guy and only this guy uses a slowed-dumb speech for Dunk when he’s not described in the writing to sound that way, no other reader does that it’s out of character.

Dunk the Lunk, thick as a castle wall and slow as an Orux (idk how it's spelled) from the mean streets of flea bottom. He says he's not good with words too. The voice seems spot on for me :3
