Holy crap Joe, I went through the SAME experience in during high school. There was this popular (with the guys) and pretty girl named Cindy who I sat next to in AP history. At first, I wasn't attracted to her. But then, as we started talking more and I'm dishing out these corny jokes and making her laugh and we start talking more, I literally fell in "love" (the dumb teenage kind) with her. I was in marching band and she was part of the cheerleading squad so we'd always see each other during football games (because the marching band does half-time shows at the games). Towards Christmas of that year, I hear her talking to her friend about giving a guy a Christmas card and I say jokingly "Oh, is it for me?" She said "ew, no!" It turns out that was absolutely true because the following summer, I ask her out on a date online (cause I'm a little bitch at the time) and she says no. I'm sort of hurt by it but its okay because I'm looking forward to the next school year. I kid you not, the first week of school, I see her walking with this guy all the time and literally after seeing how they were cutesy with each other, my 16 year old heart sank like the mudda fackin Titanic. I was so heartbroken to the point where I'd literally go home and cried under my bed sheets like a little bitch for the first couple of months. I basically decided to ignore her at school by literally running the other way if I saw her in my path just so we wouldn't cross paths. Every time she said hi to me. I literally ignored her and quickly walked away. There was this one time where I was walking with a friend down a hallway and I notice her and her boyfriend are walking towards us. I look at the wall (to avoid eye contact) as they walk past us and she says hi to me and I don't respond. Her boyfriend immediately pins me to the wall and says "hey". Shes like "forget about it" to him and they leave. Literally that year, I basically ignored her the entire year because I was so hurt that it took a year to get over her. Senior year (the following year), we crossed paths again (she broke up with that boyfriend sometime in the summer and hooked up with another boyfriend) and I apologize to her because I'm finally over her. She, looking pissed off, says "its fine" and we literally didn't interact with each other after that. Looking back, of course, it was my dumbass self's fault for how things escalated. I think its exactly what Joe talked about this video where kids don't talk things out so its so fucking painful when heartbreak happens. I think, after all these years, that I still want to talk to her about it just to get closure on the whole situation, both for myself and for her. I never told her that I liked her but maybe she figured it out. I should've fucking confessed to her in person back then and just gotten rejected. That would've way better because at least I know for a fact, shes not interest and I can have my teenage heart broken for a week to a month and move the fuck on. You guys might think its fucking stupid that I got my heart broken from see the girl I liked with another guy but that's how I felt back then. Shit was stupid man. I felt so pathetic and like I was worthless. Its such a shitty feeling. Its exactly like you guys said, I was a dumbass kid who saw the friendship as hope of a relationship and that I gave myself too much false hope where I emotionally invested so much that I was going to hurt myself in the end.

When you guys were talking about being paranoid bc of what you’ve seen before vs feeling secure bc you’re privileged.. I grew up in a nice area (low crime) BUT my mom raised me so damn paranoid (she was a refugee y’all). So because I was taught to be cautious ALWAYS, I’m that friend who’s saying lock your doors, don’t put your bags in the car in full view, i don’t trust this person, etc etc. And they think I have a stick up my ass for no reason but it takes 2 seconds to take protective measures so why wouldn’t you? It’s funny bc when I went to college in Irvine, EVERYONE kept their doors unlocked, windows open which I’d never do. But the ppl who felt THE MOST secure in Irvine to do that shit were actually ppl who came from high crime areas. Their rationale was, yo Irvine is one of the safest cities this is NOTHING compared to where I came from so nothing’s gonna happen. (There were a bunch of burglaries bc of this lmao.) So a lot of it is not just rich/poor, it’s also a personality thing where some ppl overall are just more risk averse than others. 🤷🏻♀️
@anshikagupta67834 жыл бұрын
Yea, I get u. I grew up mostly in nice places where crimes did happen but not too too much, and my parents taught and raised me like this cuz they grew up in India and they have gone through all this shit, I don’t trust people, I don’t get how someone can into their house and not lock their doors. I always lock my doors, check my windows, don’t leave shit in my car that can be seen etc. I’ve been fucked over and my parents are been fucked over and people with the same mentally don’t think this way and straight up call me paranoid like nah I just was raised this way boo lol

Its exactly that babying vs learn on your own type of thing that happens to me. Like my mom tries to baby me a lot but I end up telling her all the time "if its a mistake then its my mistake to make" or "just let me do the chore myself and learn, and redo it if its not to your standards" cause parents have high standards for kids to not make same mistakes but you gotta let your kid figure stuff out and build discipline on their own.

I doubt anyone will know me here so fak it. I grew up in a bad city, so bad that my brother was killed in front of my house. This is the kind of environment I grew up in but I've since moved away and live in a better place. I relate with sometimes reacting a bit aggressive in certain situations and people looking at me like I'm crazy. I've learned that regular people usually handle altercations with words and not physical actions. I'm really quiet so I still run into people who think they're tough but I usually just laugh it off but i do have my moments. 😅

No one I’m not good friends with is allowed in my house, my mom don’t know abt most my friends cuz I don’t bring them home cuz they aren’t good friends. Never shit in the car where it can be seen, put it under the seat or the trunk, no shit gettin stolen.
