In this, episode 137 of PowerTec 10 DV goes into top gear criticizing mode. Here he responds to ill founded statements about his dyno testing on camshafts, the industry failure to even closely optimize cold air boxes, 337 Speed’s multiple copying of DV test results without credit, Darren Morgans KZbin fails and Lake Speed Jnr’s ZDDP oil tests. The links you need to see for yourself the claims made are as below.

I think the thing the head guy took issue with, is you said Warren Johnson doesn't have a sophisticated Flowbench program. Warren said himself in his Total Seal Interview that he believes the flowbench doesnt tell the entire story, and Warren is about as hard headed as they come , and you would do better trying to make water run uphill than change his mind. When an engine is running the ports are pulsing air, it's not a constant draft. John Kaase demonstrated this with his clear plexiglass intake with removable screw caps, so that you can stick your finger in and actually FEEL the pulsing for yourself.

I've seen many "cold air intakes" that are really hot air intakes. The factory usually pulls outside air from the bottom of the air box. A lot of these intake systems have high flow filter but pull air from under the hood or through the radiator.

DV, I know exactly who the cylinder head porter that you speak of is, his initials are, Cough Cough--> EW😉... He made a video about a year ago ranting & throwing a fit about my first cam video, that was the video that i also exposed Brian Tooley, you commented on that video and told me that you thought it was "a cool presentation and said you wished you were that smooth" lol, that video now has near 153,000 views and just keeps climbing, that video has gotten alot of attention & has been a huge sucess. I really do appreciate that comment you left, that comment and the 2 other comments/complements you have given me gave me more motivation & inspiration to continue to push threw my permanent progressive disability's and put out more videos sharing my knowledge about the physics & dynamics of engines, cylinder heads, valve event timing & dynamics, gas dynamics, pressure waves, pressure differentials, resonance, etc, etc, etc... After my second cam video which just further solidified everything i said in the first video Mr over opinionated head porter EW didnt have a single thing to say.. I still have a whole lot more indepth empirical information/proof and indepth explanations to add to bolth those cam videos and alot of its coming soon... The over opinionated head porter EW who you speak of is very good at what he does and i do have respect for him but he lacks cognative awareness and high order metacognative ability, EW is unaware of his cognatively bias afflictions which blindly narrows his perception of the form of reality he wants to accept or is willing to accept, it also negatively effects his ability to achive acurate intrapersonal & interpersonal perception, all of which are required and very important but the most important factor is one must obtain or be gifted with a specific level of higher metacognative ability which is really rare, all of which are nessary factors and are keys to to obtain & maintain the sustainability of true knowledge & wisdom, This statment is absolutely qualitive empirical neuropsychological and or quantum neurobiological based fact!!! Ive been working on a video for awhile about the empirical reality of valve event timing, optimal valve event timing, gas dynamics, volumetric efficiency, with a simplified explanation of the ideal gas law, volumetric efficiency, the otto cycle and some other Thermodynamics, of course there will diagrams and dyno proof to back up everything i say, this upcoming video will shut alot of these guys up and make them think about & understand things they have never thought about or understood before, in the video i advocate for you because the knowledge i share helps back your empirical method from an independent & unbias source and just so happens to prove that you are absolutely correct sir💯🫡.. This upcoming video is gonna be as they say "a banger" and will be very successful, it is about 2 hours long and i make it very clear with proof that my knowledge, wisdom and experence i share only deals in Quantitative, Qualitive and Empiricaly proven information aka true knowledge within the reality we live in, i dont deal in opinions, opinions are Anecdotal information and opinions are inherently subjective due to perception & cognative bias which leads to inconsistencies, inaccuracies and falisies, opinions lack the rigor, precision and reproducibility of the empirical knowledge that comes from the rigors & specifics of scientific method... The video im currently working on should hopefully be done soon, and if you havent seen my last video you should check it out, it also independently proves without bias that your correct... Take Care DV, I wish you good health my friend🙏🏻... ~ Adam ~ Cattledog Garage & Racing...

As with most things we deal with automotive wise, chemistry is a complex topic. If you add or subtract a bit of one element or chemical, how does that affect the balance and interaction in the product, whether grease, oil, coolant or the fuel. If an oil is formulated to perform well for an application out of the can, adding something else may throw it off maximum performance. Without intimate knowledge of the subject we are better to listen to someone who does know the subject.

DV: When you explain the exhaust sizing, please touch on why unequal length headers (as opposed to equal primaries) are correct 99.9% of the time (probably higher). As you have stated before, each cylinder from the intake, through the engine and out the exhaust are not identical, so why would they need the same length primary tubing (perhaps they need different diameter or steps as well/ based on space)? Hopefully, after you articulate how long overall we should make an exhaust for a particular power band on a certain size engine, you could delve a wee bit on the individual lengths to compensate for firing order induced robbing of some cylinders and other compromises that happen in different types of intakes. v/r wh

The very most over looked aspect of cylinder head development is wet flow testing. Flow quality is much more important than flow quantity. The true measure of a great head design is how much total timing does that cylinder head need to make best power. Wet flow testing needs to be done with the entire system , with the piston in the bore, placed at different heights from TDC to look at the fuel across the entire chamber. When you can wet the piston evenly 100% across the piston, that cylinder will make greater power at reduced timing. Any thing under 20deg total timing is a great cylinder head design. Just check out the CHI 208 cylinder head, that head will do this.

From the information I've been able to piece together from your content and the cattledog garage I specced a cam for my 6.0 LS rebuild for my truck, I got a cam that is vastly different from what's on the market. So I put this cam specs on a couple of engine simulation software programs up against cams from the likes of comp cams and brian tooleys cams and the cam I specced based on your formula along with consideration of the physics of valve events it performed better in the entire RPM range(I tested 1000-6500 RPM with a redline target of 6000) while having a better quality idle as well. Torque per CID went from 1.22 to 1.38 on pump gas at 10.5:1 compression ratio. I do know that this is a no BS channel so I will need to have a cam ground so I can test this on a real dyno, However these early results do vindicate my skepticism of major cam companies comprehending the same camshaft for 2 different displacement engines. But I hope I can get this cam made and tested so I can report back the information whether good or bad so there can be more information to have better understanding. I don't mind being put on a blast if I am able to learn something from it

On the subject of oil, and additives, be it ZDDP, or Oil Extreme, there is a gentleman on Speed Talk that goes by the handle 540Rat. He states that he is an engineer of some sorts, and has developed a test rig different than the one that uses the wheel and consumable slug. He states the same as what Lake Speed Jr. does, that the zinc is only good to a certain point. He has put out a comparison chart of observed pressure resistance ability of different oils, that points towards a possible reason these flat tappet cams are being ruined during break in. It is a quite well written blog. I do not have the link at the moment, but it can easily be found. I've also seen video of man running a dial indicator across the lobe of a supposedly new flat tappet cam, showing ZERO crown to it. This would/could also be a problem of some flat tappet cams being destroyed during break-in. Interesting stuff. Any Mr. Vizard, I truly appreciate the knowledge you freely share. I have been a long time study of your work. I have several of your books, and will be getting the rest to balance out the collection. I'm getting of age to have time to put your knowledge to my projects. We appreciate you. Side note, I'm patiently waiting on your cam suggestion for the AFR LS3 Enforcer head. Mr vizard, the years of experience you have is a testament to you knowledge. I enjoy watching your videos but I find some of your subject matter a bit out of the realm of the average guy. Tho you do also cover subject that us hot rod enthusiast can understand. Again thank you for sharing your knowledge us.

David my son's 377 ran 10.10 at 130 in a 3200 lb Malibu, he decided to put a Set of 1.875 race headers on, the old ones wer'e 1.625 street headers, same collector length, he lost 2 tenths and 2 mph in Quarter mile, it lost it in the 330 foot, small headers ste not bad...oh his engine made 595 and 510 torque with those small headers....Mmmm, Hi David😊

In some situations those race headers will perform better just not on a quarter mile.

Hello DV please if you are considering buying something to improve picture quality you better talk to pro because you can spend bunch of money on enhancing quality of lightning problems, noise etc. I think the content format is really good in chapters(introduction, announcement of topics, the actual topics, credits) and "offer to subscribe" button after the announcement and maybe at the end (i saw that yt can actualy light up subscribe button but idk how it works). And last but not least editing and audio levels are very important and its also better to talk about this with someone who can really help. Sorry for my eng. Big Thank you David and Andy

Mechanical engineers can take classes in lubrication. They study the shape of the oil separation layer between 2 surfaces. It has some weird name. So there is science to estimate sizes and areas shapes of lubrication layers. I didn’t take the course.

David, juggling 6 balls. Two give me enough trouble. :-) Just my goofy sense of humous getting loose again. I post replies on For A Bodies Only and make recommendation on what I have learned from you, Andy and Ben Alameda. There is of course some racers that think you guys are full of it while they are the experts. Much of what I have mentioned is aimed more at street applications. Mopar guys that are adamant racers of course think gears like 3.91 or 4.30 and a converter are mandatory. There are donkeys dieing of thirst that you can take to a fresh lake but can not get them to drink. As you stated, their broblem!

Take it easy!!! I think some of these people try to get you fired up. No I don’t know why but as you know some people are just dicks . I myself want to find out more before I go and wish I had money to help you out with this stuff. Like the 318, air box,and so on. Some of these clowns just don’t get it. Like your cam program. I would love to have that but I am 65 . I would love to make another motor. I really thank you for what you have done. I just wish I had seen this stuff 40 years ago.

I love it! you see the people making the cold air intake & say, " they could have done it better".. story of my life! It bothers me sooo much when manufacturers design a product that have clear and obvious "mistakes", or weak links... I'll say, "they went to all the trouble of making tooling and molds, etc, and they cheese out on the clamp or fastener, etc.. make it better yourself, and David Vizard is proof that using your brain can often out do using your wallet...

DV talks about the mgr. spending more effort on their logo, and complains their should be more slope to the design. Obviously, with a greater slope, the logo would be harder to read.

DV you spend too much time explaining how great you are... Kindly send more time on these videos with tech.... Let the viewers learn and stop worrying about what others are saying... I personal don't care about rants and raves between people on you tube.... I think viewers can make their own decisions....

I'd be willing to bet Johnson stared down & slept with those Ford designed castings Glidden won so much with for many hours, which led to the Semi-Hemi DRCE's. As the DCRE's evolved, valve rotation increased. He learned quick from running Glidden, his 24° Chevy heads belonged on a two ton bread truck. At one time everyone ran with what mass production offered & it's all developed from there.

Larry Widmer designed the Boss 429 heads for SVO that Glidden won world championships with in the 500” days that started in 1982. Glidden couldn’t compete in 1982 because he had to abruptly change engine programs from the Cleveland to the big block Boss engine. SVO knew they needed more technology to compete in the new 500” class and approached Widmer who was an aeronautical engineer. He designed a badass combustion chamber by welding in “swirl pads” to enhance combustion. There are pictures of his work online and it is impressive. Widmer did up a few sets of heads and SVO made them available to the public and Glidden freaked out at the thought anyone could buy them so he bought all of them then pissed Ford off and they scrapped the head program. He won world championships until he used up all the heads and retired....

@@trailerparkcryptoking5213 Interesting, I never followed Ford much, see some reports of this Widmer swirl approach produced 40 more lbs of Tq. and up 20 Hp with +30CFM. Might try that on a Brodix BBC head, on the milling machine, plunge a ball end, end mill at the right angle & depth just short of the plug and keep the radius on the plug side then blend the other side into the chamber. (first consider using the stock canted valve angle of 4°) need to look it over.

I'm just wondering if its even possible to have thousands of dyno pulls to base your knowledge on and not know what you're talking about, it comes with the career. Just because you haven't devoted your life to engine research and you can't comprehend how someone can know certain things, that doesn't mean its unbelievable. Give the man some credit. Never underestimate the human mind and spirit. Mr. Vizard has my respect.
