While Bow Drilling, the spindle tip to divot will glaze over if you're not applying enough downward pressure. When the spindle does not make enough progress down into the fire board during the drilling process, so much heat is produced that the tip to divot begins to fire harden, stop producing smoke and dust, and may start chattering and squeaking. Let me show you how to avoid glazing in the first place and 3 ways to fix it if you've accidentally let it happen. Please follow the LINKS below and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You! So much wasted time in boy scouts with scout masters who didn't know. No youtube back then either. Priceless knowledge. Thank you so much.

With bow drill I'm with you, you can bear down on it & burn through the burnishing but for hand I still like to add some dirt or sand. You don't have the mechanical advantage with just your hands 😄👍

I know. If bow drill is what you're trying to learn, you're going to run into glazing along the way.

Impressive display. Very educational once more! I have the issue mainly with hand drill, but have a clue now what to improve.

You bring a good point. I too have occasionally dealt with glazing while hand drilling. It is for the same reasons and is remedied in the same way... as, I see, you already understand. Thanks!

Hey, Is there some one with Any advice, why i burn the top of the spinder before the bottom, the spinder and board i willow, and the block have been birch and oak?
@DavidWestBgood2ppl2 жыл бұрын
Too much friction at bearing block not enough at fire board. See the tutorials in my bow drill playlist.
