Only You - JD-Xi Tutorial - Part Two

Here are some notes to go with the video:
Begin the song by playing the sequence on Digital Synth 2 for 4 bars and then bring in the Drums and Analog Synth (hold the shift button and press both Drums and Analog together.
Step 1: The verse begins in the standard position (no transpose) for two bars then transpose down (hold shift and press F) the display shows TRANSPOSE -7. This plays for 1 full measure and then transpose up (hold shift and press C) the display shows TRANSPOSE 0. This plays for half a measure and the transpose down (hold shift and press G) the display shows TRANSPOSE -5. for the remainder of the measure.
REPEAT STEP 1 ONCE
STEP 2: Transpose down to F for 1 measure up to G for 1 measure then up to C for 1 measure. Then back to F for 2 measures, G for 1 measure and then back to C.
STEP 3: Now bring in Digital Synth 1, turn up the level on SD2 (pos 5 and 13 on sequencer) and OHH (pos 7 on sequencer) and repeat steps 1 and 2. for the remainder of the song. Note: there is a slight variation during the middle lead break - listen to the original!
Now record the complete backing track
Additional synth tracks
220 Juno Key and 198 Vox Pad. Full envelope and delay to give on long sustain.

Brilliant, I've dabbled with covers of this track but you go into much more detail, fantastic, and the JD-Xi is my sleeper synth but as yet am still to own one, and I've had loads in this category of synths, great stuff, subbed.

Many thanks for your great comments. I do try and pass as much information as I can about how I put my cover versions together. The JD-Xi is a terrific little keyboard with lots of programming possibilities. The main issue is the keys which are small and feel very fragile. Hi David I wondered when you say a song is a one bar two bar or four is that the pattern length or the scale settings

Hi Andy it is the pattern length. When I first got my JD-Xi the videos that I watched referred to the pattern length as bars when the JD-Xi has measures. So I sometimes still say bars when I should really be saying measures. Sorry for the confusion 🎹👍
