Intresting Fact about DaVinci Resolve: The term 'Film Bins' in editing software has roots in old-school film editing. Back in the day, editors would physically cut film strips with razors, then hang each clip by its sprocket holes on hooks attached to a rack over a large bin. This setup kept the long film strips organized and off the floor. These ‘bins’ became essential for organizing shots, and editors could roll them around the studio as needed. Editing desks were huge machines, where film pieces were cut and reassembled with special tape that had matching sprocket holes. Sound was managed separately on synchronized magnetic tape rolls. Multiple tracks were edited, but only two could be played back together until the final mix, which involved syncing several machines at once. Imagine the patience and skill it required-editing was a true art form

Editing on my phone is quick and easy, and I've gotten really good at it, but I really need to take my editing to the next level but I've always found Desktop editing softwares a bit daunting. I've decided to try again, so thank you for putting out this video.

Before we start, I have an amd card. And I'm not saying "use Nvidia cards" here, they have their own problems. But if Davinci crashes on you when you drag and drop footage into a timeline, it could be your amd driver. Adrenalin 24 simply doesn't work with davinci 19 as of today for me. I had to downgrade to 23.3 I think. Just in case someone is wondering as well as I had to try this to find out. Black magic really needs to fix their software, it's not the first time Davinci acts up for no reason at all.

Thanks for sharing! It’s frustrating when things don’t work smoothly-your tip about downgrading to 23.3 will definitely help others using AMD cards with Resolve 19. Hopefully, Blackmagic fixes this soon!

Great introductory tutorial. Be interested to see how to create a video with scrolling text along the bottom that runs for the length of the video. Similar to rolling news channels. Content might include a web site and contact name, phone numbers etc
@KevinStratvert6 күн бұрын
You can use the text+ effect with keyframes on the position to make scrolling text on the bottom. If you learn some of the Fusion page, you can even make it loop throughout a video.

Great video. I wanted to ask you, did you make a video talking about your computer set up as far what computer you use, how much ram you have, Intel or Ryzen, graphics card etc.?
@KevinStratvertКүн бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! I haven’t made a specific video about my computer setup yet, mostly because I use a variety of laptops and desktops depending on the project. For the best performance, though, I recommend aiming for at least 32GB of RAM and a dedicated GPU-these specs really help when handling demanding tasks like video editing or running AI tools. If there's enough interest, I might consider making a video breaking it all down!
@Hanger-13Күн бұрын
@KevinStratvert That would be great if you made the video even if it is a short one. I am in the process of wanting to build myself a desktop computer now that I have most of the money saved up and some advice would be great. I hope to start a KZbin channel in the next couple of months so I need to get cracking on learning Davinci resolve since the free version is more than sufficient. Keep up the great work your doing .

Hi, have noticed that firelight, dynamics send/listen buttons in free version are now disabled. am now regretting why I updated to 19
@KevinStratvertКүн бұрын
Yes, it’s true that in DaVinci Resolve 19, the Fairlight dynamics 'Send' and 'Listen' buttons are now only available in the Studio (paid) version. It's definitely frustrating, especially if sidechain processing was a big part of your workflow. If you're considering Studio, a great way to get it is to pick up a Speed Editor from Blackmagic, which includes a license key for the Studio version.

Is it better than Shotcut bro?
@KevinStratvertКүн бұрын
Shotcut and DaVinci Resolve are both great video editors, but they cater to slightly different needs. Shotcut is simpler, free, and perfect for beginners or those who want to make quick edits without a steep learning curve. On the other hand, DaVinci Resolve is a powerhouse, offering advanced tools for color grading, effects, and audio editing-great for pros or anyone looking to level up their editing skills. If you’re just starting, go for Shotcut; if you want Hollywood-level features, DaVinci Resolve is your jam.
