Winter 2024 - Tree damage

I just watched this interesting description of what happened to the trees this winter . Can you tell me if the same might apply to lilac trees. As far as checking the status of the tree branches. Our is a very old tree, possible 50+ yrs and it didn't flower at all this year and very few leaves. Any information would b appreciated. Thank you
