This track actually reminded me of one of my favorite ds3 soundtracks which was pontiff sulyvahn's. Both do also have some level of religion in their characters, so I recommend that one if you liked this one!

These guys are holy, but in a very evil way. They were said to serve Destined Death, and they used the black flame to kill gods, and after they killed gods, they took their skin and weaved it into robes, very disturbing stuff, even their weapons are called the Godskin Stitcher and Godskin Peeler, implying that they used these weapons to do the deed. However eventually they were defeated by Maliketh the Black Blade, and had their power sealed away. Honestly my favorite piece from Elden Ring, and I really hope these guys get expanded on in DLC.

@@nolanstrife7350 As the lore goes, Godwyn has been the FIRST demigod to have lost his life to the black knife assassins. Who knows how many have been felled since? Some of such trophies are worn by these guys here, and there are quite a few in the whole game so... I'd just settle with many. Take the immortality away from a God and you have a mostly common human in a Souls environment, since anybody can, apparently, learn magic and miracles, provided they have the necessary prerequisites (levels).

IF there is DLC for Elden ring ,there is gonna be expanding area for this guys you can clearly see the Godskin queen with good old COILED SWORD in Elden ring posters, I really fascinated about their lore ,sound track, boss design .if you stumbled upon those windmill area, this amazing music kicks in with godskin apostle's elastic boss move sets ,you know what I am talking about .surely one my great experience besides mainstory in elden ring

Somebody already pointed out, that the Godskin Apostels being apostels implies some sort of hierarchy. Therefore they probably have or had a leader. Hopefully you can fight him in a DLC :)

Video games as an art form are entering a renaissance

This comment is so good. I don't think most people realize how high of an art form video game have become. Maybe a 100 years from now when people look back they'll have more clarity to see this. The best composers, artists, writers, etc living today are making video games.

@@DaviVasc It does feel like there's a stigma around video games as an art form, possibly due to how young the art form is. I could imagine that when cavemen started painting antelopes on the cave walls, the others probably scoffed and thought it was a waste of time. I worry about games. Take Ocarina of Time, for instance. Often considered to be one of the best games of all time, but how are you going to play it? The most accessible version is the 3DS remaster, so all you have to do is buy a $200 3ds and a $20 game. What if you want to experience the original art? That's $130 dollars, and have fun playing a 24 y/o game. 3d polygons, filled with old clunky features that were in their infancy. And good luck trying to emulate the game with how protective Nintendo is with their properties. Compare this to music, were you could look up pretty much any song ever on youtube, or just google a painting and go to images, or you could download a pdf of a critically acclaimed book. It seems as if in video games there's a much higher opportunity for business men to exploit the system, to oversaturate the market with remakes, remasters, and re-releases, and abuse the games financially. Games like Elden Ring are certainly fighting an uphill battle when publishers like Activision and EA are wringing every dollar out of their properties like Call of Duty 21 and Fifa 37, with there 60 dollar price tag, paid downloadable content and micro transactions. Hopefully though, 100 years from now, video games will be more accessible, and our society as a whole will look back on games and franchises like Dark Souls, Legend of Zelda, and Red Dead Redemption, and see it in a similar light to the Ode to Joy or the Romeo and Juliet of our time. Maybe we've yet to get there, and if that's the case, I can't wait to see the games that take us there.

I think this is why Elden Ring is so different yet so nostalgic. Dark Souls has always been about the inevitable and that even if the protagonist “won” the world would still be in a horrible state of dread. All throughout Elden Ring you really feel like a “hero” someone that can genuinely change the course of the lands between, there is hope and through the pain and struggles the protagonist has the power to change it for the better if they so choose. Love and adore this game!

I really like that the World is for the most part (not caelid) quite a nice place actually. Like it has a functioning ecosystem for once, with some wild Animals and healthy forests. Not just some crumbling hellhole through and through.

I think you nailed the description of the Apostles perfectly. The choir's give the vibe that the thing you're fighting is sacred and religious, but the instruments underneath hint that there's something dark and sinister going on. As the song goes on those sinister twisted chords grow in intensity, and the Choir shouts louder, like the Apostles are desperately trying to hide their evil nature under a aura of nobility and holiness. But then at the very end, the rhythm explodes into a frantic frenzy of crashing instruments, and the Choir, once composed and exuding humble pride in their blessed duty are now more like howling animals as the truth of their inner darkness is laid to bear for all to see

When I was skimming the Elden Ring OST a couple days after release, the Godskin Apostle theme stood out almost immediately. The suspended progression in the second phase (9:14) punched me in the gut and whispered “Listen. I’m your new favorite soulsborne track.” Also, about 5:27. One of the first Apostles you meet (if you avoid the Caelid Tower altogether) will be in a place called “Domminula” or “Windmill Village”. The residents there are all seem to share the general mindset of the Godskin Apostles, and will brutally skin outsiders of their village. When you first enter the village, you see all of the residents-women, all-frolicking and dancing around crucified people. At the very top of this village lies a Godskin Apostle. I think that’s what this part of the song is meant to represent.

Funny you mention "Bloodborne energy." I haven't finished the game yet (I'm at the Giant's Mountain), but Mogh, Lord of Blood is the only boss so far that's given me the same feeling as Bloodborne bosses, where I start getting nervous when I get close to defeating them, and having after battle jitters.

I would also like to say that the horn parts in the second phase reflect very well how (in my opinion) they were heroes. Crazy heroes, maybe even antiheroes… but heroes nonetheless. They did. They were children of Gloameyed queen and they almost succeed in replacing Golden Order with their own Order, but their mother was slain and rune of death was sealed which made their god killing flames weaker. Basically they are wondering holy order that became even more brutal after their mother died.

This is great, definitely feels like a war between darkness and light. The middle part with the angelic singing was like ascension, only to be pulled back down into hell. This is one of my favorite compositions in the entire game. The tempo and it's delivery is distinct, methodical, consistent. The mixed choral themes with small tweaks and minor chords to end screams a sense of twisted holiness, as if seeing a conventional Orthodox church and walking inside to see nothing but snakes. The transition is honestly one of my favorites in the entire game. It's so unconditionally ruthless that promotes a sense of false majesty, while also conveying a very clear and distinct tone of being _successful._ The way this is delivered, the somber overtones, it makes me feel more like this is a song of utter betrayal. Not only betrayal, but glorified betrayal. This song is what plays when your best friend not only stabs you in the back, but pushes you aside to claim treasure that was rightfully yours. This is a song played by a cunning advisor who uses his charisma to enthrall the people to overthrow the king and put himself into place. The song of someone who went through any means necessary to not only acquire power, but uproot someone just in the process. It is not only evil, but rejoicing in this evil, rejoicing in any usurpation, _AND_ whomever did this succeeded. This theme screams "Fallen Angel" in a conventional judeo-christian mythological sense. This song is John Milton's Satan from Paradise Lost.

Starscourge Radahn has to be my favorite theme especially phase 2, such a heroic theme, and kinda sad as well towards the end, its his last moments of doing what he loves before you defeat him. I would say God Devouring Serpent is overall the most impressive and jaw dropping ost from the whole game though, for me at least, Malenia and Margit have amazing themes as well, most themes in this game are just so well made, Fire Giant, Ancestor spirit, they make you feel bad for killing some of these bosses.

The second part of this track only kicks in during the Godskin Duo fight, when one of them revives the other, and you realize this isn't a normal godskin encounter. While it can be a pretty frustrating fight, this is an epic moment. Love the dynamic sound design.

there’s not really much evidence to say the skin they wear is the skin of gods, more evidence against it than anything tbh. with godwyn being the first god to die and that the godskin are much older than that event, as well as the fact that their black flames power of destined death was taken by maliketh and now does not have the power to kill any gods

@@i-eat-moss It's still possible that they wear the skin of gods. Marika wasn't the first god, there were other nations and other gods before the Greater Will started influencing the Lands Between. The ancient dragons had a god (according to the remembrance of Placidusax) , the fire giants had a Fell god who lived among them (according to the incantation "Flame of the Fell god"), and the godskin existed before Marika and her offspring so maybe the godskin killed some of the other gods who existed long ago

One of the absolute best themes in the whole series. The alternating positive and negative chords perfectly represent their design, both aristocratic-militaristic, and dissonant-grotesque. Whenever I've faced a new boss with a nice ost on elden ring or dark souls I was hoping to find a video of you about it. Hope the soulsborne playlist continues to grow! An interesting piece of their lore related to the isolation of the gentler female choir is that the Godskin Apostles are all lead by a goddess called the Gloam Eyed Queen, who treats them as her children. Hey Davi, this track is very reminiscent of the Deacons of the Deep track from Dark Souls 3, in the regard of it being a dessecration of traditionally holy chord sequences, and it's an absolutely fantastic track. It's awesome how much lore you can glean just from the OST! SekiSoulsBorne games tell so much of their story through the gameplay and soundtrack/ambience. It's also extremely fitting that there are more heroic notes when the story is about fighting the demigod heroes of the past to rise above your status.

I just wanted to add this, the definition of Apostle (noun) is: One of the twelve chief disciples of Christ, or a person sent on a mission in order to instruct of the gospel. (Feel free to correct me on that) So yes, as you said, this song is absolutely meant to have a religious undertone. Even the lore implies this, as the Godskins supposedly serve a Queen, who I believe is against the main "religion" or "order" of the game.

Full disclosure this is about the 5th or 6th time that I'm watching this vid! Love the breakdown and love the track! Very powerful and a nice switch up from the regular soulsborne music. I would really recommend Malenia, blade of miquella, which in my opinion is in the top 5 best tracks in elden ring, just like this one, but you have already heard a different version of it posing as margit's theme. So i guess Morgott's theme would be good too ?

Elden Ring has thrown me for such a loop. I was so used to fighting colossal monsters and Giants that I wasn't prepared for more traditional battles. Fights like Dancer of the Boreal Valley, Gael, or even Soul of Cinder felt to me like a dance. Every boss I've fought in Elden Ring (Except for Fire Giant. He can screw off) has felt like a dance.
