For a moment there I thought this was a review of the titular Big Finish play. Favourite Davros moment is all his moments with the Fourth Doctor in Genesis of the Daleks. That story totally deserves all the appreciation it gets and remains to this day the greatest of Davros' appearances.

Very sad that you didn't even make a passing reference to Remembrance of the Daleks. Sure, Davros only has one scene in it, but it's a particularly memorable one. And the Dalek civil war in that story speaks to the complicated relationship between Davros and his creations.

Davros being a villain is an interesting conversation to have. On the show many characters have argued that the Doctor is a villain as well.

I adore Davros. My first story of him and the Daleks was Stolen Earth, and he was creepy to 2010 me. But, he's amazing. Hopefully, they'll bring him back sometime. I plan to bring him into my Lego Doctor Who series at some point. All in all, great villain/genius scientist/smelly old uncle who couldn't invent legs! :)

Just on a sidenote: Edison did not invent the lightbulb. He got rich off of it. Like he got rich off of many inventions that weren't his. And he was not a nice man ...dunno wether a comparison to Davros is going to far or not though.

Fair comparison I think. Both brilliant inventors, and world changers. The Master met Davros! They didn't make a big deal of it, but that's huge!

I think davros is very similar to the Doctor, they each hate each other, they both have attempted to commit genoside ( Davros: Thals, Doctor : time lords. Still, davros did try to have control over the universe, but if you watch the waters of Mars, the Doctor goes pretty evil and wants to control time. Then again, davros put the entire universe in danger time and again, but the Doctor did that in hell bent trying to save Clara. So they are similar, but they do it for different reasons.

Id be up for a Davros story without Daleks like the audio 'Davros', they take a back seat in 'Revelation..' and he gets to shine, as a devious character, using some charm and humour . And he makes a very amusing businessman, just picture him on dragons den! I am out and so are you-zap!

I do believe Davros is a villain in the same way the Borg Queen is a villain. Ironic optimist that think world peace and perfection will come when everyone is forced to be just like them, or dead in Davros' case. Probably my favorite Davros moment is when he's talking to the Fourth Doctor about the virus and admitting that he'd break the glass.

Perhaps Davros is a monster; somebody/something that was not born evil but made evil. (Brain damage perhaps? What _is_ normal for a Kaled? Or a Gallifrean, FTM....) Perhaps Davros is a mad scientist; he sought to do good, but his ego or ambition or other personal failing got the better of him and it all went wrong, (including him.)

I think it's unfair to call Davros a 'pantomim' villain in Journey's End. Journey's End took Davros and the Daleks to their natural conclusion. Davros in Remembrance of the Daleks had aspirations of universal conquest and in Journey's End we see that realized. He and the Daleks essentially figured a way to eliminate all life other than themselves (their entire purpose in life) in one attack. Sort of their equivilent to the Holocaust. In fact the scenes where the Reality Bomb is tested (where Jackie Tyler is in danger) are to me deliberately evoking the Nazi gas chambers. Fitting in with this Davros in Journey's End and Stolen Earth is played at his most Hitler-esque, the script even saying his big speech should be reminiscent of Hitler. So it's not really pantomime so much as adhereing to the core concept of Davros and the Daleks and taking it to it's most climactic
