Hey Davud, I am not a Sri Lankan. I am a Scotsman who lived in Siri Lanka which was known as Ceylon. My father was a Scots engineer who was posted to an English Company in Ceylon back in 1952. My dad was the Engineer who supervised the repairs to the ss GOTHIC (A Shaw Saville Liner) that brought Queen Elizabeth II to Ceylon on her tour of the Commonwealth. The Gothic was damaged in Colombo Harbour when a tanker ran into her. I was there in 1952 and left in 1956 - that was 66 years ago. After retuning to Scotland, my family emigrated to Australia in 1961, and that was the last time I set foot on Ceylon shores. I recall touring all around the Island and to be quite honest, I don't recognise any of the sites. By the way mate, you cannot praise Siri Lanka if you cannot eat Spicy food. Everything in Siri Lanka is spicy. It is always best to take a little bit of the spicy food and tolerate the heat as it would please your hosts very much. Cheers mate.

They offered a cup of tea to my parents and a glass of tap water to me and my sister. Brits don't do hospitality because they're cold people. I left the UK for good in 2007, thank God.

Hello Davud, its great to see you in a Sri Lankan wedding. Hope you enjoyed very well. I think its better to tell you that in Sri Lanka we have lot of relatives, mainly its divided into mothers relatives and fathers relatives and also mothers brothers and sisters and fathers. So accordingly we should call them as cousins nieces etc., but we usually call them as brothers and sisters. And thats why when you asked the Sri Lankan "you have alot of brothers and sisters" he said yes. And we do call brother in law as "massina", son in law as "baena" etc. though its usually in order show how much our bond is we call them as brother or sister. Stay Safe Much Love from 🇱🇰 ✌

And I have a suggestion when you go to a party or restaurant in here if there is rice with other curries, you don't want to worry about spiciness. Weddings can happen at any time of the day, it depends on what time the astrologer gives the couple (their own auspicious time). So this couple's auspicious time must have been in the morning. If you get an auspicious time in the morning, some families do the traditional ceremonies at the auspicious time in the morning, and then have a separate party at night. So it's like 2 parties on the same day! The men were drinking separately at this wedding because there were 2 floors available at the venue. Usually, that's not the case, so there will be a bar on the same floor where all the other people are.
