The Ride
Paddle down the Rivers of America on a grand oar-venture all the way around Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island.
See the Wild Frontier - from the Water
Named after the legendary 19th century icon, Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes lets you travel back to a time when water was the way to go.
The 20-passenger vessels are real, free-floating canoes; there is no motor and no track. Modeled after the boats that early Native American and European explorers used, these 35-foot-long canoes are powered entirely by paddles.
As you cruise full-circle around the island, charming surprises await you around every bend. Come grab a paddle and discover the wonders of the last great frontier!
What Will You See?
You’ll glide past the north bank of the Columbia Gorge, complete with a beautiful waterfront and 5 sparkling waterfalls.
Take in the sights and sounds of 3 different lands-the backwoods of Frontierland, the wrought-iron railings of New Orleans Square and the peak of Chick-A-Pin Hill towering over Critter Country.
Sharp-eyed explorers can spot iconic locales, including an idyllic Native American village, and frontier wildlife like moose and beavers.
A Familiar Route
While you’ll get a unique ducks-eye perspective of the Rivers of America from the Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes, the attraction follows the same path as 2 larger ships: the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Sailing Ship Columbia.
Know Before You Go
The boats are lightweight and most of the paddling is more for fun than actual propulsion. While your help is appreciated, the river guides who sit in the fore and aft of the canoe are capable of navigating the waters by themselves.
Before embarking on your expedition, you will be given a short lesson on how to paddle the canoe. For added safety, small children will be required to wear life jackets.
Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes operates seasonally, may close due to inclement weather and is only open during certain times of day. If paddling around the Rivers of America is a priority, try to make it over to Critter Country early in the day.

that would make for a longer canoe experience. Is there things to see on the back side of the river?

@@WalkingWithTheMouse The biggest difference is that the river goes through the forest, and we have a couple of extra scenes including the cabin on fire

@@andrewcalcagno8272 ooh nice. You know, I have never done anything on the Rivers of America in the Magic Kingdom. Now I really want to ride the Mark Twain, and i think the Train goes on the back side as well. I've only been to Magic Kingdom once, and in the middle of the pandemic (September 2020) so I got an unreal Disney World experience. The wait times were very low though and I did every ride that was open in one day. 😀
