Best guitarist I've ever seen live. I've seen him play live 3 times now. The first time I had no idea who he was, but he was closing a blues festival that had nothing but amazing bands, so I figured he must be pretty good. He came out with a plaid shirt, short hair, and that beat-up old tele, through a VOX AC 30, and a couple of pedals, and I thought "Gimmie a break: What the fuck is this guy gonna do?" after seeing the other bands play through full Marshall stacks and pedal boards the size of Oprah's ass, and all decked out Hollywood style with sunglasses, leather, and top-hats and shit. Then he started playing. OMG....I've never seen anything like it. He litterally blew me away. I've seen soulful players like Carlos Santana and BB King live. Robert Cray. I've seen shredders like Randy Rhodes. I had all of Stevie ray Vaughn's albums, and was a Hendrix aficionado. Seeing him play was like watching the guys above before they were discovered, but his playing is on another level, above or at least even with some of the greats. He can play blindingly fast, but he's no jerk-off-shredder. He can do a smoking slow-hand blues like here that will bring tears to your eyes, and then rip up and down the fret board with the expressiveness he wrings from a single note. The scales and licks he uses are unique - none of the old blues cliches guys like Clapton or Bonamassa trade in. His playing is technically excellent and precise too, unlike say, Jimmy Page or Hendrix who are / were uh, loose players to be kind. Oh, and he can SING while he does it. For the life of me, I can't figure out exactly what he's doing. It's definitely based on the classic petatonic / blues scale, but he's modified it. The way he works around, through, and back to the root note is genius, and again, unique and original. I know that Rory Gallagher had a strong influence on his playing, but he's made it his own. There is an inventiveness and soulfulness to his original compositions that continues and expands on the legacy of the the greats. Glad to see such a young guy carrying the torch forward.

Check out Joanne Shaw Taylor and Philip Sayce you will see some of the same originality, soulfulness and yet unique in their own ways. And the same can be said of Jonny Lang. They will all grab your musical soul and take it to wonderful places and put a terrific smile on your face.

I think you may have put my experience with Davy in words better than I ever could have. I am from Austin, TX - the self-proclaimed home of the blues. Yes, we have some spectacular players that make their home here but from out of nowhere comes this guy from, of all places, the Isle of Mann. And he brings it like no one I have seen. His keyboardist is another level too.

So, so many points for "no jerk-off-shredder." Lol. You're totally right. But I will now and forever gauge all pedalboards against the scale size of Oprah's Ass. So hilarious.

Der ist echt gut drauf, schöne Ideen, herrliche Läufe und auch eine absolut perfekte amerikan Bluesstimme. Ich meine, die Stimme klingt wie seine Gitarre. Da passt einfach alles.

Just masterful and tasteful volume swells. Rarely see guys doing those, Roy Buchanan was about the only notable one I know of who made it part of their style
