This situation is really bothering my spirit. I’m born and raised in U.S. and I watched my mom be abused, even jumping in myself, only for her to protect me from being hit. I just lost mommy July12th and I’ll never forget all the suffering I witnessed as a kid. It’s traumatic not just for the abused but also the children. My mom had enough and the guy came home full of drugs and alcohol and my mom had no choice but to shoot him dead. I wasn’t in the house that night. As a grown woman I’ll never forget the abuse I saw my mother suffer at the hands of a man. Prior to her sickness we were discussing going to Africa. I’ve been but she hadn’t. I was wanting to come to Kenya with her.

I may sound silly but is there no shelter or safe place for women and children in the village in such abusive situations? Is there protection from local police for abused persons? Everyone has the right to live peacefully. I’ve worked with people in the same situation and was able to refer them to a safe place. It seems we need to bring attention to this problem in the village and not only have the alcoholic to go for treatment but help keep the rest of the family safe. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Such situations are very difficult to handle. Sometimes you help them move out then everyone starts blaming you for breaking a family. The problem is that it's hard to know if she'll be able to survive where she's going, like food and daily needs. I think that's why Congrats Mom said that they don't allow married women to move out. In the village, life is not like America, women do go even for a month without a dollar because they have no jobs and entirely depend on the husband. So if you move her out, she has nothing to eat.
