They failed to mention the best part. That electric plant in Sandon was built by Nicola Tesla, the greatest man to ever live. Ironically, that plant probably provides power to charge a vehicle with the Tesla name. attached.

Yeah..I can''t believe they missed that point. Supposedly Tesla himself oversaw its construction at one time.... and it still functions today...Tesla was a genius bar none.

The generator at Sandon is indeed Canadian Westinghouse and Tesla was at Cristina Lake in 1897 to set up the power plant at Sandon, but the generator now operating came from Vernon in 1912, AFAIK. The plate has a patent date of 1905. I just looked at the photo I took last year.

I have a very clear memory of the Needles ferry form my childhood, My mother was taking me to Nelson for a summer trip and when we hit the ferry after Edgewood the river was turning like a boiling pot, once we got about half way across the wind really got crazy and the waves where coming over the deck and hitting the Civic we where in, I was then and still am not even remotely interested in boating period, thought I was going to die that day. One of the coolest memories I have of the Kootnyes is as a young teen we stayed at the old King Solomon Silver office that had been turned into a hotel. The second day I got up with the sun and packed a bag with food and some gear told my parent's the direction I was headed and went up into the mountains (Back when kid's could do that and the parent's didn't get hung out to dry) I bush whacked for most of the day and found almost endless mines and rusty relics but the big find was a whole little town there was about 6 buildings various stages of disrepair but all intact and untouched, a literal time capsule hidden in the woods with no road in or out, it was amazing all the windows where unbroken, one of the coolest things was the power plant an old in line engine in a small shack, it had a brass tag on it that I took, I have in my hands right now (WEIDELY MOTOR Model MW48282) it turned and had compression, I've always thought if I had the tools and some gas then I could have turned the power back on. That night I got back to the hotel just as the last light faded and to this day I wonder if it's all still sitting in the woods still untouched. On another not they had a Bust-A-Move 2000 arcade machine and it was bad ass

I can remember riding on those buses when I was a kid. I'll always remember those ugly green seats and beige interior. Those little red boxes beside the windows were for the daily transit news flyer called the buzzer. And the rope at the top was to pull and ring the alarm so the driver would stop at the next bus stop.

Yes the ferries in the BC interior don't have fares (although there was some attempt in the past to bring them in). I believe they're operated by the ministry of highways. This has ruffled a few feathers of people who live on the BC coast who have to depend on BC Ferries, which is fare based.

You missed a lot. Highway 31 north from Meadow Creek, is sometimes called "The Mountain Goat Freeway", The original candle sticks for Candlestick park came from the Lardeau Valley back around 1900, and the town of Gerrard had its own power and a huge mill where the camp ground now sits. I was in those caves 40 years ago before any infrastructure, safety, guides and established trail. Went on a tour about 5 years back and truly realized how sketchy it was to explore them as a 10 year old with my dad. Spend too much time in Kaslo and find out how much the majority of locals actually cant stand tourists/outsiders. Just forget about moving there from Alberta,,,esp if u plan to build. If you do make sure u have bottomless pockets as every contractor and tradesman answers to a premium on top of the already jacked up labor rates. Oh and good luck with any type of permitting and paper work if u plan to build. That town will literally run off anyone they collectively deem unacceptable. Seen it many times. I live an hour away so I know...
