Totally agree -- happy 82Zii alto and tenor player here. Started playing on a Yamaha 61 alto and have never looked back.

Well played! I very much enjoy my YTS-82Z in black lacquer. It’s also the make, model and finish that Tom Politzer of Tower of Power rips and wails on. This just adds fuel to my determination that if I’m buying a Yamaha Custom YBS-82 bari, they can jolly well put metal resonators on it. ➡️ “Custom” ⬅️

I have a tenor 82z with a v1 neck. Absolutely love it. So comfortable under the fingers. What mouthpiece and reed is Simon using ?

Simon uses a Jody Jazz JET on Tenor and the reed is probably a Red Java #3 or #3.5

Should I be going for the 82z alto as I’m just an intermediate at best?

Why not treat yourself :)

@@dawkesmusic The boys in the video stated that the V1 neck was more challenging for anyone not experienced.

Indeed it can be just from an intonation point of view, but this isn't necessarily true for all players. It depends on the mouthpiece as well. The best option (if possible) is to try the 82Z vs 62 and see what suits the player best. Thanks :)
