I'm using Studio One 7 now just for a hobby but back in the 90s and I still have all of this stuff, MPC 60II, RACK with about five keyboard modules in it, plus a keyboard, mixer with patch Bay outboard effects, initially I had a real to real 8-track (running sympte) and graduated to a 16 track digital recorder. Ah the good ole days.

SAVE THIS VIDEO!!!….Bolo just gave us a Major Gem 💎. WHY you may ask? Good question lol because the reason this video is so dope is simply because a Dawless setup is for producers not necessarily engineers. One thing about today’s music is too many people sound the same the reason is they’re all using daws system from laptop, iPad tablets, etc., and all those sounds are similar or the same. Old school producers wasnt to much concerned about Levels, mix downs and so forth…. Just good old loops drums keyboards and what not . I personally love using a controller MPC controller with midi sound modules and keyboard midi sound. As for mixing that’s for someone else to mix(That’s the good thing about Daws frfr)mix as you go concept, in my opinion it slows down your production and creative Ideas. Dawless set is for creativity The uniqueness will separate you to where you will have your own sound almost like a real musician in a band …you are just the orchestra . Great tip Bolo …

My favorite aspect of producing using an MPC is it gets me to use my ears more. Rather than visually looking at the notes against the grid like I tend to do in a DAW, I listen for issues and then dig in if necessary. I just think that’s a much better practice because at the end of the day, it’s about whether it sounds good.

I still haven’t opened my MPC One. I got it when it first came out back in Feb 2020. I know I know 🤦🏾♂️. I’m an Ableton user and really didn’t feel like sitting down to learn it 🤷🏾♂️. You said something that really hit home at the beginning of the video. You said “I own it”……😳🤔 I really never looked at it like that. I mean a license is just what it says, A LICENSE! Almost like renting vs owning a home. I truly enjoy using Ableton, but you got me rethinking this dawless set up. 🤔

I came to that exact same realization about 4 or 5 years ago. I have damn near every plugin I could ever want, but one day, I realized that it's all just software that never goes up in value and isn't tangible. So what do I really own??? Nothing!! If I leave this earth, all that software won't mean shit to my kids! I bought a neq Moog Sub 37 back in 2018 for $1200. If you look at the used prices today, I can damn near make money selling it. But yeah, Bro, I felt Bolo too when he said, "I own it!!!" That was definitely a flex! 🫡

I have my MPC X connected to my Tascam DP-24. I have the original one that has SD, CD and MIDI. The newer ones only have SD. A couple guitars, a bass, and an old Casio keyboard that I’ve had for over a decade that can be used not only as a midi controller, but actually has some really good sounds already in it. No computer in sight.

Running a very similar rig to you. Mpc key 61, mpc live 2, roland fa-06, arturia astrolab. Sadly though the astrolab is not compatible with the mpc. You get that weird loop and the astrolab do not have a Local Off-switch to fix it in the wat the fa-06 does. But the sounds are sooo good i still keep it to either sample from or straight up audio rec. Hopefully Arturia will fix this but when?! And about the topic I can just say nothing comes close to the raw powerful sound of a mpc. 808s and kicks hit like a train. Everything is at your fingertips at all time. Nothing comes between you and your music. Intimate like. 😂❤

I don’t do any mastering. If it’s loud enough and sounds good I’ll leave it just like that. Sometimes it peaks well over 0db and if it still sounds good I keep it just like that. The main factor in this topic is, that hardware and pug-ins first of all sounds different, and secondly they offers you different kind of workflow, which leads to different kind of result. Dawless does sound better, I did it for 30 years, i owned everything, my first drum machine was Akai 909, but, bass , drums, guitar, keyboards, I recorded all of my instruments live, all the way through start to finish, only drawback is in doing orchestral music for films, kontakt libraries are the best for the work I am doing now which is scoring, plus coming from a Church background and still playing in church, I love dawless.

@@jaymac8421 Ultimately that's all that matters. But the topic at hand, and specifically that was brought up by Bolo himself, is being Dawless. So speaking to the original topic introduced is my point.

If you listened to the video 📸 to the end, Bolo said he might do little tweaks in the DAW, but that's not all the time or most of the time. But if you rock with daws, keep doing so.
