DAWLISH WARREN Devon August 2021 - 4K Virtual Walk

Join us for a walk in Dawlish Warren, Devon, England on a beautiful summers day over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Our walk starts on Dawlish Warren seafront, we explore Dawlish Warren Beach and walk through Dawlish Warren to Funder Park, where we take a look at the rides available at this popular family amusement park.
Dawlish Warren is a seaside resort near the town of Dawlish on the south coast of Devon in England. Dawlish Warren consists almost entirely of holiday accommodation and facilities for holiday-makers especially caravan sites.
The resort is popular with holidaymakers and both Dawlish Warren and Dawlish beaches have won the Blue Flag for the quality of the bathing waters.
Along with neighbouring Dawlish, this corner of south Devon has a favourable climate, which draws thousands of visitors to the area in summer. Because of this, the Dawlish Warren economy relies heavily on tourism, and in particular on the many caravan and camping parks in the village which add over 15,000 to the local population during the summer months. There are several holiday parks which attract visitors from all over the UK. The major holiday parks are Welcome, Hazelwood, Cofton, Golden Sands, Dawlish Sands, Peppermint Park, Lady's Mile and Oakcliff. In 2008 Peppermint Park and Golden Sands joined Dawlish Sands as part of Park Holidays UK Caravan Parks. The name 'Peppermint Park' has gone and the site has been rebranded 'Golden Sands'.
Aside from the golf course, Dawlish Warren has a doctor's surgery, a pharmacy and an independent supermarket, along with several gift shops which cater for tourism. It also has a number of restaurants and take-out eateries. As you would expect for a resort, there are many bars and pubs such as the Silly Goose, and The Mount Pleasant Inn, which dates from before the 1750s, and is located just outside the resort.
The resort is served by Dawlish Warren railway station, situated a few minutes from the beach. The station is between Dawlish and Starcross stations, and is very busy in the summer.
Dawlish can be reached by a 1.5-mile walk south-west along the South Devon Railway sea wall.
If you’re looking for a relaxing beach holiday, with lots to see and do, Dawlish Warren Beach ticks all the boxes. With it's one and a half mile long sandy beach, sheltered sand dunes, award winning clean waters and family amusements, it offers a traditional seaside holiday. Beach huts are available at Dawlish Warren and Dawlish for daily or weekly hire.
There are plenty of family friendly activities and attractions to keep everyone amused, from go karts, golf and rides, to cafe's and watersports. Be sure to check out Funder Park with it's many rides and Pirates Cove Adventure Golf which is located inside Funder Park on Dawlish Warren seafront.
Dawlish Warren is located at the mouth of the Exe Estuary opposite Exmouth and has a beach, a National Nature Reserve spanning 506 acres and a golf course, which is classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The renowned sand spit at Dawlish Warren is the location of both the golf course and the nature reserve which was declared a National Nature Reserve in 2000.
As part of the Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren is one of the most important areas for wildfowl and wading birds in the country. Thousands of birds come to feed or to spend the winter here, attracting bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts. The surrounding dunes and grassland are home to over 600 types of flowering plants. Dawlish Warren is internationally recognised as an important ecological site and as such is protected by both national and international laws. If you want to learn more there is a visitor’s centre offering information about the wildlife reserve. From here you can gain access to the various hides dotted throughout the various habitats on-site.

How many memories does this bring back…..well in truth not many! The beach, ok, that’ll never change. But the times I went to DW the pathway at 21:00mins from the beach all the way to the railway arch was literally a boardwalk, with lots of wooden sheds of various sizes lining the path. There was a little bingo cabin, a beach shop, a deck chair hire cabin an ice cream cabin amongst a few others. The new developments, the pubs bars, eateries, modern beach shops weren’t ever thought about when I went there. Mind you I was only seven or eight last time I was there almost 60years ago. However, I do recall the residential railway carriages and a very early version of what is the kiddy go-cart track. As a family we stayed at the Hazelwood Caravan Park, which is still there, although the caravans have now been replaced by chalets. I have nothing but fond memories of the few years we spent in Dawlish Warren, many many treasured memories. Thank you for this video.

I love Dawlish Warren. Started coming in 2016, since then I have been six or seven times. I love the long walk from Teignmouth. Shaldon is also lovely. Hopefully going again later this year and coming back to Kingswear :D
