I read Clayton Moore's biography. He was a First-Class Act! Even when he was sued by Jack Wrather and forced to not wear the Lone Ranger mask, he STILL had kind words to say about him. I wish I could be the kind, benevolent man he was.
@nicholasjanke3476 Жыл бұрын
That was stupid of Wrather to pick on Moore like that. It was the equalvalent of the James Bond film makers preventing Sean Connery attending 007 fan clubs, because Roger Moore is doing the role.

The Lone Ranger and Tonto was just an example of how the world can fix its problems without killing! I remember in the first episode the Lone Ranger told Tonto he would not use his gun to kill even though all of the Rangers were killed and the Lone Ranger survived. What an example we can all learn from. To this day, I still remember those words. Thank you Mr. Clayton Moore for being an example of what the world should be and not the disarray it is in today!

Dave La Violette ... I read an article where he gave an idea for the movie. In his version Tonto would he died and the Lone Ranger would have found this young man who was on the fence between good and evil. He and the young man would have some adventures together with the young man deciding to give his life to the good. The last scene would be the Lone Ranger turning his back to the camera taking off his mask and handing it to the young man who would put it on as the new Lone Ranger. Then we would see thenLone Ranger one more time on Silver Saying “Hi Ho Silver... away!” And off he would ride into the sunset. I would had paid good money to see that! The studio turned his idea down. They lost a great opportunity 😔.

I will never forget seeing a "Real People" when Clayton was under a court order to stop doing appearances as the Lone Ranger. He was going to hospitals and charity events and telling kids to be good citizens and work hard and be honest and America was the best country to live in; it was so heartfelt and genuine. And when Fran Tarkenton said "Ladies and Gentlemen, Clayton Moore" and the crowd just went NUTS and I was crying at the love and emotion this man engendered.

Kenton Clarkson I saw it on television as well. I just couldn't remember the name of the show that told the plight of the Lone Ranger until I read your comment...Thanks and r.i.p. Clayton Moore

Dawn Moore said it best....Clayton Moore's most distinguishing characteristic was his voice. You couldn't mistake him for someone else. It was not one that could be imitated in the same sense as John Wayne. Jay Silverheels had the same voice. I recall seeing him in the Audie Murphy western, Drums Across the River. Even though he played an Indian chief, his costume was not the same as Tonto's but when I heard him speak, I realized who it was.

Clayton Moore was one of a rare breed of actors, portraying a character so definitively that no other player could ever hope to follow in the role. The decision to ban him from wearing the mask was an act of near-criminal malice, akin to telling Patrick Macnee of 'The Avengers' to stop wearing a Bowler Hat. The Lone Ranger made an indelible impression on me as a child ,and continues to be a programme that I can joyfully return to as an ageing adult. Dawn is a credit to him.

I was at a LA Ram football game in the 60's and during halftime the announcer says "and a cloud of dust and a Hi Ho Sliver". And out of a side tunnel rides The Lone Ranger AKA Clayton Moore on Silver. He stops rears up Silver, waves at the crowd and disappears back into the tunnel. I grew up watching The Lone Ranger. Quite a treat seeing my childhood hero in person.

I noticed Jon Hart right off, to this day I still call Hart the wrong Lone Ranger. Cozi TV plays The Lone Ranger, 4 back to back episodes on weekday mornings as far as I'm concerned they can skip the Hart episodes all together. Wouldn't break my heart at all. The Lone Ranger rides forever. As a side note I believe that The Green Hornet in the story line was the grandson of the Ranger's brother that was killed in the ambush.

There are few stunt men that would even attempt diving off of a running horse( in this case Silver) while jumping off of a cliff without breaking your neck is a marvel in itself. Moore did this several times. Staying on a horses back while going down a steep hill or mountain is very difficult because of the angle & gravity. Try it sometime if you dare?

@pi314159274 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no. I was dressed as The Lone Ranger sitting in the audience recording the event. Half way through, a cameraman from "CBS This Morning" taps me on the shoulder asking me to write down my name for a segment they were doing for their show. And there went the remaining part of the video. And that's the rest of the story. Good Day.
@519djw64 жыл бұрын
@@pi31415927 Thank you for your response. I know this was several years ago, but I wonder if Dawn Moore spoke about the brief time when her dad was not allowed to make public appearances as "The Lone Ranger," because of that grade Z movie they put out in about 1980. Paul Harvey fan, huh? :)
@pi314159274 жыл бұрын
@@519djw6 I do not recall Dawn addressing that period in her Dad's life during the event. I do remember in a print interview about Clayton himself commenting on those days. When friends would try to comfort him, he'd tell them not to worry and that he had never been busier. He said he went from 15 personal appearances before losing the mask in 1979 to 150 appearances after. Interviews numbered in the hundreds. And endorsement deals came around again. Even though he had to switch out the mask for sunglasses and bill himself as "The Man Who Portrayed the Lone Ranger," Jack Wrather's legal maneuver helped give Clayton's career a boost and earned him a whole new generation of fans, along with the diehard ones that stuck by him for years.

I wonder why the family of Clayton Moore who lived and loved the Lone Ranger did not have that identity inscribed on his grave marker.
@pi314159274 жыл бұрын
Good question. I cannot answer for the family, but I would guess that it was his wishes. It might have been enough for Clayton Moore to have been the only celebrity to have his own name and character name on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame when he received his star in 1987. I'm sure there may have been other reasons, too. Despite his fame, he was a simple man who enjoyed the basics of life and an appreciation for his family and his fans. And his gravestone is just that-- simple. Even without a character credit on his marker, we fans know to this day who was that that masked man buried there. And some of us even got a chance to thank him. 😊

Moore had that distinctive hoarse (no pun intended!) voice. Same with Vincent Price. It was a mistake for Moore to have left the show for awhile-whether by his volution or by some producer's choice (mabey Moore was difficult at times? Annoyed a producer? ) as John Hart didn't have the charisma as Clayton Moore. Two different personalities. Moore's Ranger came across as a tough yet very sensitive, intelligent, straight type of guy. Hart's Ranger lacked that sensitivity personality. Im hoping to do three Lone Ranger, professional fan films for KZbin which will be follow ups to both the tv show and the 1981 Legend of The Lone Ranger. Im hoping to have cameos with both Dawn Moore (as the Ranger's daughter) and Klinton Spillsbury as the elderly Ranger.
