Yeah i tried IG after playing Necrons and after a couple battles i just said screw it, on a side note the Orks in my Necron campaign are while severely slowed down (i took the spaceport from them) are a massive threat, since owning space marine, Eldar, and Tau territory means a head on fight is assisted suicide.

Radical Larry the Mailman My Favourite thing to do playing as the Necrons. The best thing about it was you could do it twice. Alternatively I would use the Pariahs all the time. They put a permanent speed debuff for every hit. You don't have to kill the enemy, just keep hitting them until you're satisfied they won't run you down and laugh as that already slow Baneblade, Landraider etc. slow to the point a glacier is faster. The best thing about it was using it online was a blast. People outright refused to delete their heavy units that were now useless because they were so far out of the way their base was just too squishy.

Bare in mind that their armies are not made up of willing recruits, drafted civilians or the like. Their armies are the former populace of their worlds. *Every. Single. Non aristocrat Necrontyr.* While their quanity has lessened for a variety of reasons, should their empire fully awaken, the rest of the 40K universe is doomed. Not even Chaos would be able to stop them, since they possess the means of shutting the Immaterium off from the Materium completely. Even if they didn't do that, their mere existence can starve the Dark Gods and Daemonkind to extinction.

Instead of being this ominous, mysterious, endless legion led by living gods, they're now a set of dozens of fractured empires crippled by infighting. The C'tan were neutered, now simply slaves of the Necrons, an infinitesimal fraction of their old power. They are literally Tomb Kings in space, and they will never be anything more than a thorn in the side of the Imperium. It's a damn shame I agree, I thought the Necrons would be an excellent motive force for the plot, something that would move the 40k Universe out of the Imperium-Chaos centric stagnation but GW abandoned that idea.

TBH unlike everything else on WH 40k, old Necrons and new Necrons are both awesome. You know what would be great? If both could coexist together, as if that during the Silent King rebellion, some C'Tan avoided being shattered and retreated with their personal armies somewhere. That way we could have merciless machines serving under whole, fullpowered C'Tan and Necrons that kinkshamed other C'tan and now are more or less acting independently. This is all Matt Ward's fault. We were perfectly happy with soulless, monstrous automata trapped in the hands of uncaring star-gods, but nooooo, he just had to give them feelings. Mind you, I don't mind the idea of the Lords being sapient. That already fits the basic shape of the lore as it was pre-Ward. But this fixation on going back to flesh and blood completely defeats the point of the Necrons' early arc--that is, their struggle against their own extremely short lifespan, and the utter fragility of their flesh vs. the psychic onslaught of the Old Ones.

You're welcome ;) The Pariah gene was said to be planted among humans' genetic material by one of the C'Tan, who foresaw a potential use for them. The reason Pariahs are highly valued by both Necrons and the Imperium is that their negative warp presence, or lack of a 'soul', means they have the power to dull or even completely nullify a psyker's warp powers. Which makes them excellent weapons, particularly against races like the Eldar.

The worst decision you could make in Dark Crusade was playing Tau. No defensive structures + early aggressive Necron neighbors = absolute bullshit.

I did it. You have to be very slow with expansion first, i.e taking a single province and building it up to full defense. Eventually some of the weaker factions like the Eldar, and Chaos will be weeded out and you just want to continue stronghold like building. When there are around 2 factions left, make a break for one of the strongholds, just rapidly move for it and defend your territories to the tooth and nail. Build up a fortification using mostly fire warriors, then fully upgrade and research your tau base. Use your honor guards and upgrades from all the defenses to assault initial bases surrounding you and slowly work your way up using wave attacks of Kroot, Vespid, Hammerheads, and Fire Warriors. Then, move for the second stronghold and conquer the world!

@@diepssuarez2676 In all my playthrough experience, I found in the double base missions that you should basically ALWAYS try to take one of them down within the first 10-15 of the match starting; otherwise, soon as the computer gains any type of momentum, they just snowball beyond the point of control. It's even worse when facing the Necrons, since their Lords & Wraths can harass you right from the get-go.. let them get to the point they can double-team you with Spyders & Pariahs..? Kiss your ass goodbye!

Rush XV88 broadsides asap. As they're the only mid-game unit capable of keeping up against the necron. Late-game though could offer enough opportunities to push back with enough upgraded fire warriors or one of the more op vehicles. Also Drone Harbinger manufacturing drones away from the battlefield is an efficient way to slow down the Necron's advance, especially if the necron lord is out of commission.

God the old 'crons were so fucking cool, maybe I've been out of the hobby for too long but I just can't get behind the lore for new necrons, they've gone from mysterious relentless representations of entropy to basically grouchier Eldar yelling at the fleshy things to get off their damn lawn.

The GW wanted to make the necrons more diverse and make them more different from the tyranids, but in the process they changed what did not need to be changed, lords aristocrats are good, the lord from xenology was cool, but changing the motivation and Pokemon Ctan,abandoning the old storylines (Pariahs, Abbadon and C'tan) is bad the solution, because of this, the necrons are again similar to another faction (Eldar), it was also not worth giving up horror themes(The GW themselves understood that, which is why there is much more horror in the new necrons now).

I remember when GW first announced the Necrons as a race, my first thought was pretty much that they took the Fantasy Undead (Tomb Kings specifically, which wasn't its own army at the time) and put them into 40k.

I agree, in all honesty. It gave the Necrons far more characterisation, and made them far less boring, since we already had Tyranids filling the role of speechless death-dealers hellbent on taking the galaxy for their own. And besides, there's a Tomb World made for the original Neccies anyway, so people who complain about the retcon are not only blind, but also fail to see it further than skin-deep.

I will build my necrons with the old 3rd edition codex when they were pretty scary and ignore the new fluff just as the old fluff was ignored by MW. No crappy skimmer transports for me, my necrons are gonna ride into battle in a freaking death pyramid.

I know I'm answering to a very old comment, but you can still play those Necrons if you want. "Severed empires" of souless machines with no emotions are just as canon as those dynasties that still keep a shadow of what they once were. And nothing keeps you from not taking certain units. If one day I have the time to collect Necrons, I know I won't be using many fast skimmers, but I'll enjoy using other units, as well as the classic ones.

All the assassins of the Culexus Temple are Pariahs. They are the rarest and most feared of the Imperium's assassins. Even among non-psykers their condition often generates panic and unease, while in Psykers it causes nothing short of blind horror. The Imperium also uses Pariahs for protecting certain Inquisitors, especially those who hunt psykers and daemons (to daemons, Pariahs are invisible).

In base game, yes for Necrons. In UA, Imperial guard scare the living shit out of me. They can just swarm so early on without any resource cost (conscripts). Whilst Necrons are certainly slow starters. Don't even get me started on Chaos Demons....

I honestly miss when the Necrons were relatively mindless drones. They felt more like a force of nature, like the mechanical counterpart to the Tyranids. They become a lot less scary when they can talk and be negotiated with.

The Necrons are the only things that can make the fearless Tyranids feel fear. Even the many scout hive fleets that have scourged the galaxy in the past went out of their way to avoid the necrons. Even the main hive fleet, which is presumably large enough to devour entire galaxies within a few years, would probably fear the necrons.
