If you are using Dawn Professional or Dawn Platinum there is no need to add alcohol as it already contains it. Just add water. I remember when this first came out I thought it was a gimmick. Now I use it on so many things. It will work for the sticky residue on the bottle as well, just let it sit for a few minutes and do its magic. No need for another product. Love this stuff.

Thanks for this recipe. I've used it for about 2 months and it works great. One word about the Isopropyl Alcohol. Don't use the 91% version, like I did. Every time I use this, the fumes from the alcohol makes me cough. Next time I mix it up, I'll switch to the 70% version or dilute the 91% a bit so I don't choke with use. 😉

I am a baker's math type. Your formula works out to be : 324g water, 50g alcohol, 90g dawn. Give or take 1g on the weight of the water and the dawn. Much easier and neater. Scale zeroed out on empty container. Add water to 324g, add alcohol to 374 g, add dawn to 464 g ...completed mix weight 464g, just sayen.
@micstica3 ай бұрын
PS. I started with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Diluted 2 parts alcohol to 1 part water to get an, about, 66% alcohol solution which I used to mix with the water and dawn.

I have found that using denatured alcohol (what Dawn uses) does give the same type of foam when sprayed. I think it cleans a little better using the denatured alcohol. The major difference is the cost of denatured alcohol, $$7.00 to $9.00 a quart.
@WisdomPreserved Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information.
@lauriem205315 күн бұрын
If you do use denatured alcohol however, I would recommend looking up and heeding every single precaution suggested. Such things as it’s incredibly flammable! Always use in a well ventilated area. I would wear eye protection and good quality chemical resistant gloves and chemical resistant apron. Some say to even wear a ventilator type mask. Know how to properly store and dispose of it. Otherwise it is extremely dangerous to not know how to handle denatured alcohol in the exactly correct way.

If you have stubborn stains in clothing or tablecloth... Take Dawn and baking soda... Make a paste. With the back of a spoon, rub the paste into the stain let it set for 30 minutes then wash. Even removes stains that have gone through the dryer. If the paste dries out, use a few drops of water. (2 tablespoons of baking soda and enough Dawn to make a tooth paste thickness)

Just so you know, denatured alcohol is actually what is used in the Power Wash if you buy it from the store. There is a difference between isopropyl and denatured, one can always look that up if you want to. I have made this myself and decided to use the 91% isopropyl, however you can get denatured alcohol if you choose to go that route.
@WisdomPreserved Жыл бұрын

@ellenfisher6341 Жыл бұрын
We use mostly the 91% as well . But since c v , it is hard to find & has really gone up in price .
@Mike1614YT Жыл бұрын
Denatured alcohol is pure ethanol (drinking alcohol) that has additives to make it poisonous, bad-tasting, and foul-smelling, to discourage its recreational consumption (for tax purposes). To get nearly pure ethanol (without the poison) at home you can use a high-proof vodka or 190-proof Everclear.
@james10739 Жыл бұрын
Ya I think denatured is ethanol or but with poison so people won't drink it with paying their taxes and why do people not specifically the IPA strength we have 50%,70%,and 91% the rest is water but it matters

Also: Do not add (or use) essential oils if you have birds in the house. There are very few that are safe, and many that can cause serious respiratory issues or death. (Note that this also applies to most potpourris and candles. Birds have very, very sensitive respiratory systems, and you don't want your bird to demonstrate why canaries were taken into coal mines.)

One of the thing I remember from a month-long visit to Germany a few years ago was how I was able to find some really, really good deals on food at the grocery story. Usually it was stuff that simply had to be sold that day or thrown away, and it was marked down considerably. If you wanted to, you could simply walk to the grocery store every day, buy whatever was on sale, and just make a day's worth of meals out of that. There's just not an equivalent system where I live in the US. Grocers would rather throw food away than to heavily discount it.
@WisdomPreserved Жыл бұрын
Sad really. Sometimes with the smaller grocers you can talk to them and come up with deals but it seems like the larger stores have so many protocols that their hands are tied.

I've been doing this for quite awhile myself it just came to me and I decided to try it because I had bought a dawn foam and I looked at the ingredients and I decided I could make my own because the only missing ingredient is the alcohol. But I buy my dishwashing soap from the Dollar Tree and I use Ajax Ultra and I do not dilute it with water because it doesn't cut the grease good enough for me. But it works really great and it lasts a long time. I also by my sponges and scouring pads from the Dollar Tree and I cut them in thirds because I only need a small amount of sponge to wash my dishes so I also save money on sponges. And it's easy to throw them out because they can become unsanitary be used in the wrong way

If you use baby oil on a dark rag and wipe a dry, glass acrylic/glass shower door it will wipe off the cloudy white reside on the door. If ur shower door is very cloudy u might have to use another baby oiled rag and rewipe the whole door again. NO scrubbing needed, just wipe and the clearness of the door will be like new again. It only takes a couple of minutes. Use a dark throw away rag so u can see the gunk AND how the baby oil quickly dissolves and cleans the white opaque cloud-white gunk on the door. This will also work on the car's headlights if the plastic/glass is cloudy.

Then fill the bottle with water to top. Put the nozzle back on and let sit for an hour or so. Takes less than a minute and is less fiddly than measuring with a spoon or cups etc. Only cleanup is the funnel.

Dawn Power Wash is made with denatured alcohol and not isopropyl alcohol. The two alcohols are different and react differently on skin and on materials like plastic, wood, and other household surfaces. Before you recommend changing an ingredient, I think you should know whether or not it’s safe to do so, to avoid a negative chemical reaction or damage to ones person or property.

In summary, isopropyl alcohol is a secondary alcohol that has not been treated with additives (with the exception of water). Denatured alcohol is primary alcohol mixed with additives to make it unpalatable and, in some cases, even more toxic.

@WisdomPreserved Жыл бұрын
That is a great idea. It shouldn't make a difference.

You actually want to use denatured alcohol not isopropyl, denatured alcohol is what’s listed in the ingredients.

I wasn't a fan of Dawn's "Power Wash" at first, thought it was just a gimmick, then my wife bought some. Now I love it. We've been Dawn fans, especially the Platinum stuff, for years. Great hack gals! Thanks.

I get a spray bottle and put in 1/4 cup of dawn fill rest with water for directed cleaning as a multipurpose cleaner. It also works on killing insects safely. You can use straight Dawn anyplace. Put on a wet sponge and clean greasy things that way. So just plain dawn will work

quick question: i love how dawn works but I only have one issue with it, its smell on fabric and rag after using dawn with it… it smells like dead cockroach… which i did not experience with powerwash so i use powerwash than the usual dawn dish soap… my main question is with this recipe does it eliminate that smell too just like with powerwash? thanks in advance

The main feature of the alcohol it is to make it dry faster when you spray in other items besides plates or pots.

The foaming dawn ...can you tell me how many ounces of dawn to water. I have foaming handsoap bottles but no lines. Thanks how its not too much trouble to figure out ....hugs Sheryl 💙🎨💙

Honestly i add about 1 in of soap, then the rest in water. You could leave a little space and add 2 TB of alcohol at the end. I like my foaming soap to be soapy and foamy. I shake the bottle once a week. I been doing this with hand soap as well for over 10 years. If its too soapy for you. Pour of some into a empty soda bottle and add more water. The saved stuff i use as a refill.

For your foam dispenser. Use a frother to mix the concentrated soap with the water.

I decided to use a little less isopropyl alcohol ( anywhere from between 1-1.5 oz and more Dawn ( 3.5 to 4.0 oz ). My wife and I DO NOT care for/like the, somewhat, pungent smell/vapours from the isopropyl alcohol. We still want the grease cutting ability of the Dawn dish soap, so we do not want to dillute the Dawn dish soap any farther, with water, than your recipe calls for which is 11 oz, or so. So, our ”Powerwash” mixture ( using s standard grocery store version of Dawn, which is usually close to $6.00 for a 24 oz. bottle ) gives us between 6 or 7, 16 oz powerwash bottles costing between 0.75 cents to $1.00, per “powerwash” bottle. Still a pretty significant savings and makes a 24 oz bottle of Dawn last for about two months, or so!

That's fabulous. One of the things I like so much about making my own cleaning products is that I can modify it to fit my needs. (The money savings doesn't hurt either.)

I’ll be trying that DIY for sure. I’ve wanted to try the powerwash dawn but couldn’t justify the expense. Now I’ll go buy a small bottle if it’s on sale

Hello, i just found this good video (8/28/24). Ive 3 bottles of DAWN PUMP REFILL. MAY I USE THIS FOR THE SPRAY?? IF SO, DO I ADD ANYTHING TO IT, PLEASE?? AND THANK YOU
@WisdomPreserved3 ай бұрын
That is an interesting idea. I would think it would be a little more diluted. Play with it a little and see how well it works. Maybe you could add more soap and less water.
