This was my mother's favourite song. I lost her at 13 but I will never forget the memories made with her. I miss listening to the songs she loved and watching the films she adored (Grease in particular). But most of all I miss her mere presence and hearing her voice. I'm 23 now but will never ever let a day pass by where I don't have her in my thoughts. Love you mum

This was the biggest hit of 1973 and one of the biggest of all time. (In 2018, Billboard ranked it the 46th biggest hit ever.) The instrumentation was retro upon its release, and within ten years, the track sounded corny and dated, an item of ironic nostalgia. Yet, 50 years later, there's no denying this unforgettable ditty's sweet charm.

@@MoniqueHoyt-t4u In this song, it symbolizes forgiveness and acceptance of a wife to an ex-offender who just finished his time in prison, hence the lyrics of the song. You will live forever. There is no peace. We just have to hope we don’t come back as a prey animal always on the lookout for that creature that is going to eat us 🤣 I believe in reincarnation but it has nothing to do with a soul jumping out and entering a new body. I just think something comes alive and experiences that life like you are yours at the moment. You was nothing before but you was if you can get your head around that. Like I said there is no peace and something will get born somewhere in the universe and will live. Think about it as it is a mind bender.

(still want me) If I don't see a ribbon 'round the ole oak tree I'll stay on the bus, forget about us, put the blame on me If I don't see a yellow ribbon 'round the ole oak tree Bus driver, please look for me 'Cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see I'm really still in prison and my love, she holds the key A simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free I wrote and told her please Whoa, tie a yellow ribbon 'round the ole oak tree It's been three long years, do you still want me? Yesterday afternoon I was cleaning out weeds from our Blue Spruce Tree, and I had stopped to catch my breath. As I raised my head I saw the remnants of a yellow ribbon on a branch of that tree. It was the only ribbon I could still find on the tree from 2011 when our son was deployed to Afghanistan. I couldn't say how many ribbons we put on that tree, but as I pulled on it, it tore and landed in my hand. As I looked at it, I cried because I remembered how scared I was until he finally had "boots on the ground" in 2012. I had forgotten that song until it just popped into my head all these years later. I looked it up and it was released in 1973 by Tony Orlando and Dawn. I was 14, and it got a lot of air time on the school bus radio. I never dreamed it would be a song that had so much meaning to me all those years later.

I was born August 1981 when MTV came out . Music was always my thing whether it was older or newer music today. I enjoy listening to this kind of music with my mother. Every time I listen to all the good Classics like this one and knock three times on the ceiling if you want me and all those other classics reminds me of my mother that passed away 20/20. May she rest in peace and I couldn't have asked for a better mother. I love all this music that touches your heart.

50 YEARS AND LOTS OF YELLOW RIBBONS ROUND THE OLE OAK TREE. A #1 HIT FOR TONY ORLANDO & DAWN. (1973). IT’S GREAT TO HEAR THEM ONCE AGAIN. IT’S BEEN FAR TOO LONG, Kenneth Huang 6/24/23.

A song that tells a story that has a happy ending. The words and music just hold together perfectly as do Tony Orlando and Dawn's singing. A very unforgettable song. I always loved it.

Such a simple story that conveys so many emotions and "hope", his final line being a cheerful "I'm coming home" seals it perfectly :D
