In the original script, Gilliam wrote "The warrior takes of his helmet revealing someone that looks like Sean Connery or an actor of equal but cheaper stature." He never thought he'd be able to attract Sean to the project for the right price but he loved the idea so agreed.

The difference between a spec script and a shooting script. In a spec script, you do not insert direction into the story. At that point you're just a writer making a story-- you can't make costume and casting choices, nor the special effects choreography in the action scenes.

It should be noted that David Warner said playing evil in this movie was by far the most fun he ever had in his career. yep most of the actors had long and various careers in tv and movies, many in Star wars and other sci fi shows. Jack hurt himself while repairing his car. Another actor, the team leader killed himself at age 40ish. But the rest lived to old ages and did many tv shows and movies. Probably the most known one was Kenny who was R2D2, the rest mostly known in europe.

The song at the end is Dream Away by George Harrison, co-founder of Handmade Films which produced Time Bandits, among many other films, beginning with The Life of Brian. A lot of the Pythons appeared in various Handmade films during the 10 years or so they were fully active. Cleese would also appear in Privates on Parade; Palin in The Missionary and A Private Function, with Eric Idle appearing in the final Harrison-era Handmade film, Nuns on the Run. Terry Gilliam designed the distinctive company logo, although he never received payment for it, which is why he never made another film for them. Of his films, Jabberwocky is a good one, with Michael Palin as the main lead. MP also appears in TG's Brazil as a darker character. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen is next, with Idle in a supporting role. Gilliam would go on to make The Fisher King, Twelve Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in the 1990s, with more films in the 2000s onwards, but I don't want to bore you. Another Cleese film you might be interested in is Clockwise from 1985, while Terry Jones would make Personal Services, Wind in the Willows and Absolutely Anything before his death. The other dead Python, Graham Chapman, would make two films: The Odd Job and Yellowbeard, the latter of which having appearances from Cleese and Idle. Those two would appear together in another film, Idle's own Splitting Heirs. I think I've rambled on long enough now; sorry about that.

Fidget was played by Kenny Baker who was the actor in the R2D2 "suit" in Star Wars. Wally was Jack Purvis who was a acting buddy with Kenny. He also played in Star Wars as various aliens. Best known as the Jawa that shoots R2 and disables him. So in effect, Jack shot Kenny. Jack died a horrible death early in his life when his car crushed him while working on it. This is one of the few films that actually treated dwarf actors as actors and not just some cute people for people to laugh at.

One of my favorites as a kid. Thanks for reacting to it. Some Time Bandits trivia: - The time bandit with the strainer on his head (Fidget) is Kenny Baker. The man who played R2-D2. - Randall, the lead time bandit is played by David Rappaport. He committed suicide several years after this movie. So please don't mock him like at 14:12. - Wally, the taller TB with curly hair and a pirate hat, who shot the machine gun in the beginning, and said "sorry I killed you" at 23:42, played the grey Shaman Ewok in ROTJ who wore a skull on his head. Other time bandits Mike Edmonds and Malcolm Dixon played Ewoks in ROTJ as well. - The song at the end is called "Dream Away" performed by George Harrison who also financed this movie. And although you didn't show it here, one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen in a movie was one of Robin Hood's men punching helpless feeble people in the face right after they received a gift from Robin Hood each time. I remember laughing at it as a kid so hard that I could barely breathe. And it still makes me laugh. Gilliam or his editor sped up the tape slightly so it looked like the guy was punching the people harder and their heads were snapping quicker. Hah! Brilliant. One of the last good Python-esque movies you should react to is "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" which is also directed by Terry Gilliam. It's an all-time classic that for some reason never became a classic. It's one of the most underrated movies I've ever seen. And a wonderment of fantasy and imagination. From Mr. Gilliam: “We got to the end of the film, we really didn’t have a good ending,” Gilliam recalls. “Then I remembered my first conversation with Sean and he said wouldn’t it be great if he played the fireman. He happened to be in London, he was a tax exile then, he had one day to see his accountant. I said, ‘Could you stop be the studio?’ So he stopped by the studio and I put him in a fireman’s outfit and did two shots- one where he puts the boy down and winks and then he climbs in the cab, shuts the door, winks. That was it! I didn’t write the scene until a month later. We shot with doubles the whole end sequence and it works.” So, basically No Real Ending + Kevin's Parents Not All That Great to Begin With + Agamemnon = Typical Bizarre Gilliam Ending

"Robin hood, Robin hood, riding through the Glen. Robin hood, Robin hood, with his band of men. Feared by the bad, loved by the good. Robin hood, Robin hood, Robin hood." Ralph Richardson, the Supreme being, played a sorcerer in a Disney movie that was a great influencer for Dragons yet to come. "Dragonslayer". Sean Connery was the voice of a dragon, "dragonheart". Evil genius guy, David Warner, gets to be time traveling "jack the ripper" pursued by HG Wells in "time after time". Great job Dawn. I've been wanting to get my copy out for some time now. "Are there any good movies about sea monsters?" Godzilla. The 1954 original. After that you can check out the new one or watch them in order or find a best-of list online, but there's a reason he is cinema's most enduring sea monster and it's amazing to see what they were capable of 70 years ago. From the same year "20,000 Leagues under the Sea" and the 1961 sequel "The Mysterious Island" Not exactly "monsters" but an intense science fiction thriller underwater involving an encounter with ... something, is James Cameron's "The Abyss" (1989)

One of the greatest of sea monster movies, “In the Heart of the Sea” (2015) This is actually based on a true story. It’s an epic, breathtaking film!

Could try _Attack of the The Eye Creatures_ (yes, a movie so badly made that it actually has a mistake in the title). No, wait, those are _see_ monsters.

Seeing how you've seemingly fallen in love with fantasy movies makes me wish I lived in Scotland so I can run you in a fantasy game ( the World of Darkness). You'd have so much fun. I'm glad you enjoyed the Lord of the Rings btw. I loved the books too.

It captures this adventurous, fun wonderment, and does it in such a charming, clever way that really stands the test of time.

I would have loved to see an entire tv series based around Sean playing Agamemnon (who has a tragic end of course). If I ever perfect my alternate reality travelling deivce then I will do so! (I'f i'm really lucky, I'll get to an alternate dimension where Sean IS king Agamemnon) 😀

20:54 Actually if you look closely they are live action versions of the toys in Kevin's room. It's Gilliam suggesting that it still might be a dream.

One of my favourite films. The cast is great but the Time Bandits themselves are exceptional. Sadly the actor who played Randall, David Rappaport, suffered from depression and ended up taking his own life in 1990. Little dude but a big loss. 😞

It's a well known 'secret' in show business that Michael and John only have small parts (27:00) BUT - Sean Connery MORE than makes up for those two scrag ends (12:02).
