I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thanks. About fires; if someone wants to get a quick assessment as to what's going on, the number of fires can be a good measure. The area burnt cannot be calculated until a later time, when that data is available, as you said it's a much better KPI. But when the fires are in full swing and until the true toll of fires is known, the number of fires can be used.

It is of very great help, calculated column calculation is working as expected, whereas the same DAX not working for measure, where DAX measure is giving wrong output. I am using switch statement to hide and show measures in matrix. Can you please help me in resolving the DAX measure calculation to get the expected output.

I love this video, and a great explanation! I am trying to do a simple best purchase price list, where I can check out a Quote for x amount of items, and I can see a table that only shows the vendor offering the best price for each item. Do you have an example like that? My table currently shows "lowest" thanks to you, but I am not sure how to only show a single vendor per each item in the quote! Muito obrigado!

Thanks for the tutorial/project for the rain forest. Whether or not deforestation or fire is the 'right' measure, you were able to help me understand things much better. My question is on the Max Value Conditional Formatting Step. Previously, you know which row holds the maximum value, could you do this? MaxValueConditionalFormatting = IF(SELECTEDVALUE(Fires[MaxValue]) = "MAX", "#FF6600", "#73BCB2") If the example's purpose was to show us a different way to find the maximum fire year, I am no longer confused; or am I doing things the wrong way? thanks, for me is fine but when i add calendar table in relationship it is doing a cartesian, for example for fact day 2 January 2021, i see that for jan, feb, march...for each year in the calendar

one important metric used here in Brazil is the % burned and occupied... Because the number of fires or the size of it is not so relevant as if the affected area is not occupied by humans, because the forest always had huge fires but it always recovered as well. Just seeing the size or how many, maybe not the biggest problem here. a 10k(acres) burned and occupied is more of a problem than 100k(acres) burned and let it to recover Also one important thing is to understand that 10k(acres) in one year can be danger than burn the same 10k(acres) 10 years later The problem is how much you "could" burn...that's why need always be treated by %

It depends on how you look at it: 10k acres or 100k acres are both a tragedy not only locally but also globally. Obviously with the 10k you have the short term tragedy with locals living there while with the 100k the tragedy is long term for all of us living on earth. Both need to be stopped, it takes a long time for forests to recover from fires. Happy Friday!

Thanks Ruth, Yes the sq. metre could be a key metric but I feel number of trees burnt and the CO2 emissions by sq mtr (or any area) would be good metrics to do the impact analysis to really identify the effects on environment. There could be many metrics, but just thought this could be more appropriate. Just number of trees burnt will not be accurate as it can be 10000 small trees or 100 large or gaint trees.. Hope it makes sense.

Number of fires is a metric, and size of burned area is just another metric. But they both don't indicate a problem, they are just facts. Calling them a problem is a judgement. The only metric to decided whether there is a problem with fires in the amazon region would be to ask the people living there whether they see a problem in these fires. It's not up to white European people to decide what is a problem in countries in South America. Central Europe has destroyed it's jungle and wildlife including animals like bears and wolfs generations ago and today nobody is even talking restoring anything. As soon as a wolf appears in Germany it's being shot. Protecting people and their wealth is always priority in Europe over nature. And the only people that can decide how to do this in South America are the people living there.

Thanks Martin, We live in the same place , even though it is in different parts of it. A forest fire in Europe is as serious business as a forest fire anywhere in the word, we all get impacted. Protecting our forests should be everybody's priority. With that said, I read recently a report that the number of forest /m2 have increased globally in the last years so we should all celebrate.
