This is a reassuring message. I have really had a tough time these past couple of months and honestly have found myself thinking what have I done to bring this along. I like how Tara encourages us to find comfort and peace in God through the storms. Jesus I trust in You.

I saw this for the first time this morning: "If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together. The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment." (Job 9:33-34 NLT) Now compare that with: "For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity-the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time." (1 Timothy 2:5-6 NLT) As they say, THAT'LL PREACH!!! I'm so glad to be living on this side of the cross! ❤️😊❤️

God shot: 6:14 - God cares about what type of friend I am. He commands me, as His chid, to be kind, to be merciful, to be truthful, to be loving. He is my Friend and the source of friendship. I want to be a friend to others like He is to me.

It is not always true that our problems and our circumstances are the results of our choices. Sometimes this is the result of the fallen world. Sometimes it’s the result of other peoples choices. Mercy is when you don’t get what you deserve. Grace is when you get what you don’t deserve. God is so mighty and yet so intimate with us. ”What is man, that you make so much of him, and that you set your heart on him,“ Job 7:17 God’s heart isn’t set on the mountains or the universe-it’s set on me! On you!

Day 5 of 365. When Tara speaks about sometimes we have to sit back and see where we may have had some part in the wrong someone did to us, that spoke to me. In 2013 we came to know Christ as a couple. Not because we went to church but because our marriage was rocked by what should and usually does destroy a marriage. To Godd be the glory it did not. Instead we found Chirst and though it took time, our marriage is stronger and better now than I believe it ever could have been. Painful truth. In that moment in our lives God helped me see that though I did not make the big mistake I still had a part in it. I had my faults as well. That was tough to see. Our human side wants to say well at least I did not do that, or say it's not an excuse to do this and that. However when we see things through the lense of Christ amd scripture we see our sinful ways. If you are going through something I pray that you lean in on Christ and ask Him for discernment and I pray you come out it stronger. I pray for marriages to see what God wants them to be and you see what yours can be when God is at the center. God bless whom ever may be reading this today.

Job 8:7, "Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be"; Job 8:21, "He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy"; and Job 9:10, "He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted." Like yesterday, these words again are consistent with what God has been speaking to me & reminding me- speaking prosperity and reminding me that He still performs wonders and miracles! 🙌🏽

Yes, reading through Job can be tough. But it is a reminder that difficult things sometimes happen in life, often to people who haven’t done things to cause the calamity. I know several folks who have had cancer diagnoses and face challenging and painful days ahead of them. Bad things happen to bad people but also to good people. Those who know the Lord have a refuge and a friend to walk with them through these challenges.

It’s amazing that Job 6-7 is recorded scripture, and says a great deal about God’s character. Job is working through the depths and horror of grief and loss, crying out for God to crush him and end his existence. In Job 7:17, 19 he asks “Why do You have to pay attention to me? I can’t even swallow without You inflicting more pain!” And in this, God hears and He cares. God lets us go through the anger and despair of our grief because that’s where we begin to learn and see Who He is. He is patient with our despair.

Wow. Today's reading was tough. Job had calamity and sickness brought on him for no reason. But, then I saw Job 8: 9, "... for our days on earth are but a shadow." God is God, He is eternal, I am not. In Job 9: 2, Job was right in saying "...But how can a man be in the right before God?" Truly, no one can be in the right before God. We wouldn't have needed a Savior if that were the case.

Years ago, I went through a valley in my life. There’s a quiet lady with whom I had only a few conversations because she’s very quiet and doesn’t speak much. She came to my court hearing and just sat in the back. She said she didn’t know what to say but she wanted to be there for me. So many years later, I can’t recall any advice given by my more outspoken friends, but I will always remember her kindness, even though she said almost nothing. Her shy and quiet demeanor was just a comfort to me.

Read today in NLT version. That's the part I honed in on too! Job 9 33-35. 33 If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together. 34 The mediator could make God stop beating me, and I would no longer live in terror of his punishment. 35 Then I could speak to him without fear, but I cannot do that in my own strength. Mind went straight to Jesus & how we now have a mediator between us and God, in Christ! We can come boldly to the throne of grace!

Watched this yesterday as my day 5, but didn't comment.. You can fill lots of Job's pain in these words. I realized through this story that your walk with God really is personal, listening to lots of opinions from people, even when they have an honest opinion does not equate what your self-reflection with God is, and how we should always realize God's heart and mercies are set on us

We, today, are used to the fact that we can go to God with our problems, that we can appeal to His mercy. But what right do we have to that? Job is a frightening reminder that the answer is ‘none.’ I am thankful for the Blood of Christ that can cover us and make us blameless in God’s eyes. ”“Truly I know that it is so: But how can a man be in the right before God?“ ‭‭Job‬ ‭9‬:‭2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Job continues to prove to me that it's easily the most human and relatetable book in the Old Testament. I would go as so far to say its the only book in not only the Old Testament, but the Bible itself that you can put yourself and Job's shoes and the story remains pretty much identical. His back and forth with his friends reminds be a lot of the discourse between believers and non-believers discussing God in today's age. That's also where my God Shot comes from. Despite the limited information given about who the Lord is at this time in creation, Job and his friends were all still impacted by God and despite so much of the World at that time, even with their Limited Persepective of how he works/operates, they still hold him in very high regard. Which parallels to how all World Religions at least acknowledge Jesus is some way despite their own personal beliefs and limited perspective to how Christ works.

I think here I struggle with reading what Job is saying. Maybe it’s all the imagery or the poetic nature of it all. It appears to me that Job is feeling hopeless and he doesn’t understand why God is allowing all of this to happen. He’s doing a lot of complaining feels hopeless and wants to plead his case before God, but knows it’s useless because God is God. I think it’s hard for his friends to know how or what to say in this situation. The feasible thought is to appeal to God and repent and ask Him of Job is not seeing something clearly but Job remains adamant that he is faultless. Obviously, because scripture tells us, we know this to be true, but his friends don’t have this perspective. My limited understanding makes me feel like Job is being unreasonable and proud, but I know I must be mistaken. I do love how Job points out all of the power of God and how mighty He is. I do have 7:17 marked last year and this year- but this year I read that as more of a lament. You set your heart on man, and You test him every moment. It’s almost like Job is saying He should have better things to do than test His faithful people. I don’t know, my wheels are spinning as I try to understand. My favorite part about this day’s reading is the clarity gained by the understanding of mercy and grace. I have this written in many places and try to commit to memory the way mercy and grace are defined and how they are so opposite and work so harmoniously together. We all deserve death, including Job, so even these trials and afflictions are merciful acts of God’s love for him. Job has life and he has breath in is lungs which is grace, since he (we all) deserve death as punishment for our sinful human selves. That’s why 9:12 and 9:14 are clear to me that Job does know he’s receiving mercy and grace- “who can say to Him, What are You doing?” and “How can I answer Him and chose my words to reason with him?” Oh Bible readin’ friends… thanks for helping me understand and process! I love the depth that we are allowing our hearts and souls to go to to get to know and see God better. His love, grace, and mercy are constantly on display! Have a blessed week!

God loves us and understands our pain and suffering. Job is going through such grief and complains bitterly, yet does not lose his faith in God. His "friends" are of little comfort to him and he searches his soul for the reason he has been put into such torment. He realizes that the answer is not within himself nor any earthly source, but God alone can answer. God hears Job, but remains silent for the time being so that the strength of faith and the compassion of God Almighty may be displayed and go full term. If Job's heart turned we would surely know it because God would respond accordingly, but God understands our need to complain in suffering and is compassionate in His patience. We likewise have to take the lesson of Job to heart, not lean on our own understanding, and instead lean on our faith in God, even while we complain.

My thoughts; I think Job was actually concerned about his friend's position of was happening to him, he knew he was good even though he couldn't depend on his works. He wished his friends were mediators rather than being judgemental. Sometimes is good to stay silent in time of consolation to our family and friends just like Job's friends when the came

I'm using the She Reads Truth Bible and one thing that it mentions is that Job asks questions that Jesus answers later on in the New Testament. In Job 9:32-93, Job asks who can help us approach God. Jesus's answer is in 1 Timothy 2:5. Job 14:14 asks if there is life after death. Jesus's response is in John 11:25. In Job 16:19-21, he asks if there's anyone in heaven working on our behalf. Jesus's answer is in Hebrews 9:24. In Job 21:7-15, Job asks what is of eternal importance in life. Jesus answers in John 3:16. In Job 23:3-5, Job asks where we can find God. Jesus answers in John 14:19.

I think Job 9:32-34 expresses our need for Jesus, although he has not been born or prophesied yet, because it says "if only there was someone to arbitrate us" (man and God) "Someone to remove God's rod" (forgive man for their sins). I don't think it refers exactly to Jesus, but why we need him. (I'm using NIV, so it may be different than yours.)

I feel like Job sounds bitter and discouraged, understandably. Even though he is blameless, I wonder why he doesn't ask for forgiveness? I would be thinking I must have done something wrong and be doing whatever I could to rectify it.

I just started this plan and am enjoying it so far, but I am a little confused about the book of Job being placed in the middle of Genesis. Especially since Rahab is mentioned in chapter 9 v.13 and there are so many references to the Psalms throughout (which maybe it's the Psalms that reference Job). Either way, the verse mentioning Rahab is just confusing to me if this happened so early in the narrative. If you know, please comment, I would love to have a clearer understanding. Thanks!

I noticed that too. I’m going to research that a bit about Rahab. But they put Job here since they are trying to do a chronological order and I think Tera Leigh explains that somewhere. It’s a book with no clear timeline. Stay with it and keep looking for Jesus on every page. ❤

If you look at different translations, Rahab in this verse is not the person we think of. It could mean a “sea monster” or “pride”. Look up the Jubilee Bible for example.

I wondered about that too. According to cross references in my ESV study Bible, "Rahab" often refers to another name for Egypt rather than the woman we normally think of. I hope this helps.

Thank you all for commenting and pointing me in the right direction. I'm finding the NET translation has a lot of helpful information in the commentary.

God shot: Job 9:22 "God destroys the good right along with the bad . . ." (MSG) True, but why? Because of the Sin Curse we brought on ourselves as a result of our disobedience. It wasn't God's Plan A; His Plan A for us was a sinless existence in a perfectly beautiful garden where He could fellowship with us daily. We messed that up, not Him. It's why we need a Savior, and why He suffered, died, and rose again to Life to become that Savior. It hasn't been a Perfect Garden for Him, either.

Where is my sin in this situation? What do I need to own in this situation? Job was blameless but his friends made these actions as a result of something Job did. Job stood firm knowing he was blameless and something greater was going on. He knew he was going to follow through with God regardless of his pain and afflictions. Was this more about Job or more about proving to Satan that there are righteous people able to withstand the fiery darts of the evil one?

My heart hurts for what Job went through. Would I be able to withstand it the same way and stay strong in my trust in God?

Job has helped me through several times when I was going through a physical or mental distress. The ending showed me not to give up up but to stay strong in the Lord and rebuke Satan & his troubles he caused. Take that Satan🥊‼️
