I often learn new things from these little recaps, and today was no different. My eye opening moment today was when she said that insecurity and arrogance are two sides of the same pride coin. We always think of being arrogant as thinking all about yourself and not giving glory to God, but being insecure about yourself is the same thing. Your only thinking about yourself and not what God can do. I've never thought of it like that before.

Having been a Christian for years, I assumed I had read through all of the Bible, albeit not front to back. Since starting TBR, I find that I look forward to the daily reading and video because clarification, background, and understanding are what I desperately need to make sense of some passages and to perpetuate the desire for God’s word (because…He’s where the joy is).

Hi Tara Leigh! I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for all of these videos. I started The Bible Recap this summer after seeing a friend’s post on Instagram. I grew up in church and have started reading through the Bible many times, but have never made it all the way through. It has reignited my love for spending time with God and I am so excited to see all of the stories I grew up learning about coming together to form the story of salvation. Thank you, again, and may these videos bless others as much as they have blessed me!

So blessed to be doing The Bible Recap. I have been in ministry 72 years. Most of my reading and study of scripture ws with a view to a sermon. Afterall, three a week for most pastors is demanding. If you are blessed witih other opportunities, you are looking for another idea/thoght that will communicate the message of scripture to another audience. TBR has allowed me to search the scriptures with, not seeing a sermon, but seeing God. What a joy ! Thanks and God bless!

My tendency is to be instantly annoyed with others’ fear. To view doubt as weak, faithless. Gideon’s repeated doubt (especially when God is LITERALLY with him!) drives me crazy!!!! Why doesn’t God leave Gideon on the wayside and move on to a better choice??? But then I pause and hear God’s gentle voice. LOVE is patient. Our Loving Father has been so patient with me. I am often on the other side of that pride coin - I am arrogant. Lord, forgive me. Create in me a new heart. Help me humble myself! Let me reflect Your patience to the world.

Amen I can relate to this too. The revelation came to me that the real root of the problem (for me) was because there is a part of me that gets suckered into identifying with that person that triggers me, instead of standing firmly in my own Spirit and staying focused on God. i.e.: I had no solid sense of self and so when I notice others' demons, they will come into my sense of identity too and trigger me, albeit on the other side of the coin. I prayed for a change of heart and to remove the idolatry of other humans (unknowingly this is what I was doing) and just this afternoon I saw it manifest, as I was around people that would have previously triggered me but instead I was understanding of what they were going through and could sense separation between me + the other, and hold the perspective that we're all just being sanctified :)
@ellendelvalle18495 ай бұрын
Wow! I wonder if that is what is going on with me, too. I’ll have to pray about that. That is so cool that you have been able to take time to identify it and that you have allowed to Lord to work on your heart! I love the phrase “idolatry of other humans” when you talk about letting others trigger you and remembering… Yes! We allll have a need to be sanctified - fearful, arrogant, ignorant… everyone needs Jesus!
@DonZimmerman527 ай бұрын
If we are to draw near to God, He doesn’t simply wish that we will be humble; He requires it. Andrew Murray shows in “Humility” that humility is the basis of all the other Christian virtues. God shows us that after Gideon defeated the Midianites (…wait, he really “smashed pottery” and God caused His enemies to fight against themselves) he takes prideful revenge and builds up a kingdom of self, which God brings down. From Gideon’s gold ephod to Abimilech and Gaal, God shows us that requires humility in His people.

In 9:53 it mentions that “a certain women” dropped the stone and killed Abimelech. I saw God’s SOVEREIGNTY in this. This wasn’t random! He strategically placed her at the right place and the exact right time! He chose her specifically to HUMBLE, DISCIPLINE and ultimately kill Abimelech. I loved how TLC explained that God’s wrath and His judgement are adjacent to His love…not in contrast to it. He will always, always, always PROTECT what He loves! Also, in 8:4 the phrase that Gideon was “exhausted but still in pursuit” caught my attention. Looked up some commentary on that because who can’t relate to that in our Christian journey at times? I found an awesome quote below from the wise Charles Spurgeon that reminds us that we may often get tired IN doing God’s work, but we will never get tired OF it! So true! ❤️ “If you, dear brethren and sisters, will give yourselves wholly to God’s work, although you will never get tired of it, you will often get tired in it. If a man has never tired himself with working for God, I should think he never has done any work that was worth doing.” Charles Spurgeon

I had no idea the Bible Recap was on YT! I heard about it through the Candace Cameron Bure podcast and read/listen through the YouVersion app. I have never related more to the Israelites than ever before. I used to talk about them condenscendingly before - "they never learn.". "Here goes the cycle ,again". That is, until I could so clearly see myself in their cycle - I may not worship a graven image for idolatry - but there are plenty of other things I run to instead of God - food being just one. I love the recap for its context and perspective. I never would have read a scripture about God being "impatient" as a good thing. But the way Tara describes it - because of His tender heart - and that He grieves over us and WITH us - is priceless. And being able to read how others are encouraged through the comments - priceless. Thanks Bible Recap for the time, heart, and effort to put all of this together. It's a great example of how "He's where the joy is!"

Today's reading reminds me that if we don't completely surrender to the Lord, our lives are a disaster. Left to our own devices, our hearts are wicked. Gideon, aka Jerubaal, did defeat the Midianites, but he ended up with a very big ego. It is clear that his heart was not fully devoted to serving God. He was given gold from the spoils and made an ephod that the people of Israel ended up worshipping. It became a snare to Gideon and his family (8: 24-27). Gideon also had 70 sons because he had several wives. After his death, the one son that he had with his concubine, Abimelech, kills all but one of his brothers so that he could be king. He rules over Israel for 3 years, and his life ends tragically. A life that is not led by God is a foolish life. Thank you, TLC, for the reminder that God is just. His wrath and His justice are adjacent to His love.
