I went to Newfoundland this summer and I fell in love with the province, the people, the local music and the food. The scenery is spectacular. It is the most beautiful place on earth and I traveled a lot.

I’m from Ontario, and I have lived my entire life there. I had always wanted to do my masters degree, so, in 2013, when I finally decided to apply for it, I decided on Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) because the masters program I wanted to do is well-known at MUN, one of my friends studied at MUN (in a different program than mine, but she kept raving about how great the school is), and because I had never been to Newfoundland, so I thought, why not apply to MUN. It was a “why not” moment when I decided on MUN. It was the absolutely best decision I ever made regarding my academic life and in my life in general. I got to live in St. John’s for 2 years, and I experienced so many incredible things such as getting screeched in at Christian’s, seeing Great Big Sea perform on George Street, going to Cape Spear and Signal Hill many times, seeing all of the beautifully coloured houses, getting the best cod I had ever had at the Duke of Duckworth (this is a restaurant in a alley way, which is common in St. John’s), seeing puffins and whales on a boat tour, seeing the capelin rolling at Middle Cove, seeing what I would consider the most beautiful thing on earth, icebergs, and so many more things. If you have never been to Newfoundland, it is a must see. The people are incredibly nice, and it is just an amazing province. Fogo Island is wonderful, Gander is great, Bay Bulls is awesome, and all in all, St. John’s just felt like home.

Woo! So happy you enjoyed yourself here in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I’m sure you’ll be back. They all come back lol Be sure to check out The Geeks Public House on Duckworth Street Downtown St. John’s. This three story building is well over a century old and is one of the most haunted buildings in Newfoundland. Shrieking ghosts and spirit encounters have been heard and seen by many! It’s been said that the spirits are from the multiple murder victims from up to a century ago. Don’t worry about the ghosts they haven’t hurt anyone Yet. Drop in and say hi to their friendly staff. You’ll feel like you knew them your entire life. Try out their unique pub food & custom drinks. Every floor is packed with pop culture related material and custom made 1st place winning Downtown mardi gras costumes. You’ll never run out of things to do. They have a wall of board games, multiple retro video game consoles, D&D room, vintage pinball and video arcade games for all to enjoy! Try to get your high score on the leaderboards. It’s more fun to compete! Loser buys a round of drinks lol Thanks for sharing my homeland and all of it’s exciting uniqueness. Come back soon and until then safe travels and stay safe! And you guys went to Topsail (Top-cell is how we pronounce it) but you should’ve gone to the Beach Bluff which is that HUGE cliff in the background. You don’t have to hike all the way up there there’s a little path off a residential street. But I have to say, the beach is the BEST sunset spot in the province. In my opinion.I was raised just up the road so I’m not biased or anything 😉
