For anyone curious. The ferrari driver Carlos Sainz struck a drain cover and ripped up the bottom of his car and they have to remove all the drain covers and repatch all the holes to continue the practice

I am a big F1 fan and was just there for the race. I will say that sparks under the cars is very much a normal occurrence and seen at all tracks throughout the year. The reason for this is the downforce packages they run on these cars coupled with how low they sit. The faster they go, the more downforce becomes generated, and forces the floor of the car to scrape the ground. What happened to Sainz was the fact he sucked up a manhole cover. These cars generate 2T of lift force from the ground due to the downforce packages they run, so this force was greater than the force holding the manhole cover down and that is what destroyed his car!

I am very happy to see that F1 was a total flop in a disaster costing the entire city of Clark County and the Las Vegas Strip millions in the Lost tourists. Probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard of them building a racetrack through the center of Las Vegas that's some 2003 Need For Speed video game stuff. What has been better if they built a massive F1 track in the middle of the desert just outside of town and then whenever they were not doing formal Races they could rent it out to motorcycles and sports cars to do track days at
