Day 1 of training my puppy, scotty

okay, after watching the full video imma give my honest opinion. one, that collar is not good for that breed. It can cause tracheal collapse, espically when used like this. Between the small width and it being fully made of chain it can squeeze to hard into the dogs neck when pulled. Second, saying the name over and over without taking action the first time, like for any command, will lose the dog. They will think they only have to come after being called repeatdly. My recommendation is to sit a few feet from your puppy and say his name once, then when he looks at you give him a treat. This will condition him into thinking that when he hears his name, he will be rewarded. Practice this for a while before taking a step back and saying his name again. When he comes towards you, then reward. You say Scotty is afraid of the leash and while you have good intentions to teach him to be less afraid, you may only be making the situation worse. He now thinks whenever he is wearing a leash that he is gonna be pulled against his will and choked. I would recommend for this to instead leave the leash on him but do not touch it. Just let it trail behind him for a few days while around the house. This will teach him that the leash itself is nothing to fear. Then slowly begin holding the leash while its on him. This will teach him that just because its no longer just trailing behind him that it's still okay. Teaching recall before teaching to not be afraid of the leash is not the best move as it teaches him to fear being called to you. If you want to continue using leash pressure to train your dog I would highly recommend a regular buckle collar that is properly fit. Do not yank on the leash but instead gently pull. It will have the same effect but using less force and choking on the dogs end. At 7:42 you say he is making the decision to run away. This is a fear reaction, not a decison. He is currently scared of you and thinks, rightfully, when he hears his name he will be caused pain. Please reevalute the force you use with your dog, I highly recommend positive reinforcment training for this breed, or any breed for that matter. Espically puppies. They make high quality videos that goes over how to train a dog in many different scenarios.

Thank you for watching the whole video before giving your opinion. In the beginning I repeat the same command over and over so that he learns the command quicker I don’t make him listen the first time because he is just learning but later I teach him to listen after saying the command once. I will admit I am throwing him in the deep end by immediately using a leash with out dragging it around first. But I have recorded day 4 already and after day 3 he is no longer afraid of the leash he realizes it is a tool for communication and day 2 he no longer runs away in fear of the leash. I will check out the people you recommended. I was not pulling on the leash almost at all the dog was pulling the leash himself and he now realizes he doesn’t need to run away. I would recommend watching day 4 of training Scotty when the video comes out.

Why do you train a puppy with a choke collar? I suppose you know that this can lead to serious issues., ESPECIALLY a puppy. It's so unnecessary and not positive reinforcement. The same outcome can be achieved with a normal collar or harness. To say that he realizes that he doesn't have to be afraid with a choke collar is just beyond. Very old-fashioned way to train a dog, the same outcome can be achieved with better methods.

bud, the only thing you are conditioning is fear, I would advice you to learn a little bit more about R+, before t=you teach people to hurt there dogs, you have a fantasy in your mind that you are training but your are hurting the dogs , you shouldn't be training a living thing, good luck
