The purpose of this video is to describe in broken down detail, the importance of allowing a parrot new to your environment, a FULL seven days, one week, to acclimate before opening the cage door. This helps create confidence within your parrot so you can avoid developing negative behaviors later on like screaming, fear biting etc. Stay tuned for our next video discussing weeks 2-4+.

It's fine to buy a bird from a bird only store, this way at least where i got my bird , they had me visit him 3x a week so he new who i was, and did this for about 2 months, at that point he was getting bonded with me and it worked out wonderful, of course he was a baby and at 3 months old i brought him home, he was calm, loved his new big cage and came in and out with no problem, but i had birds my whole life so maybe that's why it worked out so well, started training him on the second day he was at home, and he loved the 3 minute training sessions, it does make a difference if your familiar with parrots , Jake is thriving and he is a gcc. He still loves training sessions, but i also agree it is good to adopt, but with Jake i wanted him so that's why I bought him. ♥️

@@mandaandrio thanx so much, years ago, many, I did adopt a goffin cockatoo and that also worked out great for the bird and me, I chose to work night shift so I did at that time have many hours a day with him, so i believe in both adoption and buying, but only if you buy from a breeder that knows what they are doing and also certain bird/parrot places, not petstores, I've seen 1st hand the abuse they go thru, breaks my heart!♥️

if the bird is a bonded bird that loves humans it is okay to take it out on the first day i got a cocktail took 6months for him to trust to do step up.

How are you supposed to clean the cage or do you not the first week?

work on changing the papers out at the bottom of the cage that are separated by a great first, then return the tray & remove the grate. if you don't have a true parrot cage (prevue cage), you won't be able to work as efficiently at cleaning the cage the first week - hence a proper cage being so important before bringing a bird home. sorry I just now saw this comment.

pet hospitals, exotic vets, and rescues (even dog/cat rescues) & the humane society often have suggestions of places to adopt from. Sorry I just now am seeing this.
