Psalm 103:12 as fast as the east is from the west... Our now retired Pastor once gave this illustration. If you're in an airplane at the North pole and fly in any direction you'll be going South until you arrive at the South pole, at which point your direction will change to North, until you arrive at the North pole where it changes to South again, and so on. However, if you fly East in the same plane around the world again and again, your direction will always be East, and will never change to West! Hence, as far as the East is from the West! ❤

I didn't pick up on God being the creator of darkness until you pointed it out. But it is true! He also created creatures who live and thrive in the darkness as well. And he created it as a time of rest, clearly marking it as different from day. I also delighted in thinking about all the creatures he created just for his own pleasure. I think of that often.

Psalm 102:18, "Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord"... God ensured these words were recorded for us, that we may praise Him. Psalm 103:1, "Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being praise his holy name." 🙌🏽

My God shot is in Psalm 103. I loved that entire Psalm bc it laid out His character so beautifully, especially v.1-5. I love that He renews your youth like an eagle. Eagles can live up to 80 years, but to do so they must go up to the top of a mountain halfway through their lives (40 yrs old) & pluck out all their feathers to allow new ones to grow, beat their break against the mountain until it's mostly gone to allow it to regrow, & do the same with their talons. This process takes months. They have to be committed to the pain & tribulation, but in the end, they get to live a second youth & double their lifespan. It's beautiful that this was included in this Psalm. God renews our spirit & lives through trials & tribulations when we hold tight to Him because He's where the joy is! He is merciful & abounding in steadfast love!

Psalm 102 takeaway: I can cry out to the Lord. "Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to you! Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call!" (1‭-‬2). I can praise God "that he looked down from his holy height; from heaven the Lord looked at the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die" (verses 19‭-‬20). Psalm 103 takeaway: God is gracious and merciful. "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed l ike the eagle’s" (verses 1‭-‬5). "As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him" (verse 13). Psalm 104 takeaway: God is all-powerful. He is clothed with splendor and majesty, and He makes the clouds His chariot, riding on the clouds as wings (verses 1 & 3). He created everything. "He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting" (verse 19). Praise Him!

Ps 102 v 18 "let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the LORD" v19 "Tell them the LORD looked down. . ." with Ps 104 was my God Shot, God provides, creates, sustains, knows everything is everywhere and future generations must be told this, so they will know too, He is where the joy is.

Psalm 102- a personal lament and prayers for Israel. He is certain that God will hear and he asks God to respond quickly. He feels alone. His body is breaking under the stress and sadness. The Psalmist believes that God is angry at him. God only gets angry at sin so if this is the case then he is being disciplined info repentance. He also mentions ashes so it’s possible he is mourning or repenting. He reminds himself that God will rescue him somehow and someday. He also knows that God will help Israel. He trusts God’s goodness in the midst of his tragic circumstances. Psalm 103- David wrote this Psalm. He looks back and praises God‘s faithfulness to His people through the years. David understands the overarching line of God and His people. David command himself how to think, feel and act. He remembers how God is so good to him. God is merciful, gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He does not repay us as we deserve. He is compassionate to us like a father. Life is short and people are forgotten. But God and His reign will be remembered forever. Psalm 104- anonymous psalm of worship. Praise to God for being the creator of the Earth. It is possibly loosely based on Genesis 3 God set systems in place and also plans for their deaths. He is Lord over them all. Man was created to work hard. Work is not a product of the fall of man. God had a plan for us to work. God does not give humanity just the basics, but also blessings beyond what we deserve. God made some creatures on earth just for his enjoyment. Many sea creatures no one has ever seen. Leviathan a force to be reckoned with, plays in the sea. The psalmist asks God to use His power to wipe out the wicked. He wants God’s glory to be magnified. In Psalm 104 we see God makes darkness. God is light and He makes darkness His covering. Thick clouds and darkness surround Him. Nothing escapes God. Even the darkness is light to Him.

Today's readings were so deep and precious. It's ok to bring our messiness to God as the psalmist did in 102. Gods forgiveness when we don't earn or deserve is another reminder of His character in 103. In 104 my imagine is God just tripping along the clouds and sky looking at all His beautiful creations. I imagine the feelings I get from having a cake baked and iced to be beautiful and tasteful can't scratch what He feels! And to think He pauses for a moment and sees me too!!! How awesome and how full of Joy!

My study Bible said Leviathan was possibly a poetic name for a whale (which makes sense with playing in the water). I googled prehistoric whale and it was called Leviathan! Said it was about the size of a sperm whale (around 50 tons). So just a little fun “fact” for everyone.

My God shot was in Psalm‬ ‭102‬:‭18‬-‭20‬‬‬. The Psalmist was probably referring to Israel’s captivity, but this was where I saw Jesus 💕 “Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord: that he looked down from his holy height; from heaven the Lord looked at the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die,”

I just went over the April recap and you mentioned that it doesn't matter if we're not on track, it just matters that we keep coming back and that was right on time. I'm so far behind. I started off really strong then became inconsistent and decided I would go at my own pace and it would be fine if I didn't finish in a calendar year, as long as I finished. I've already decided to restart it once I'm done and to always keep reading the Bible. This is the first time in my life I have intentionally set out to read the Bible and got further than Genesis. I'm so thankful to my best friend for recommending this plan to me right around the new year, everything happens when its supposed to. After the recap, I went over this section for Day 120 and it is the first section I decided to go back and read again. Psalms has been my favorite book so far but I will come back to these chapters time and time again. It is no coincidence that today is my mom's heavenly birthday. I know she is here with me and I thank God for her everyday but especially today.

Hear my prayer, Lord; let my cry for help come to you. But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations. The nations will fear name of the Lord, all kings of the earth will revere your glory. Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord: But you remain the same, and your years will never end. Psalms 102:1‭, ‬12‭, ‬15‭, ‬18‭, ‬27 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalms 103:8‭-‬12 May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works- he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord. But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the Lord, my soul. Psalms 104:31‭-‬35

My suffering is offset by God’s eternality. It’s not “the universe” that’s eternal; over a century ago, scientists who sought to discount God’s existence speculated an “eternal universe,” but today, scientists know when the universe began, how much matter it contains, and how fast it is expanding and accelerating (See Eric Metaxis’ “Is Atheism Dead?”). And guess what: the Psalmists knew this 3,000 years ago, and even though in Ps 102, he never finds an end to his suffering, he is comforted at Ps 102:12 with the truth that “Your throne, O God, endures forever.” He made “the foundations” of the Universe, but it will “wear out like old clothing and be discarded” (Ps 102:26). His character (Ps 103:8-12), His unchanging nature (Ps 102:27) gives us security-not an end to our suffering, but the ability to “thrive in Your presence” (Ps 102:28).
