I am an 82 year old Canadian woman from the Provence of Newfoundland. I just felt that I had to write and tell you how much I have enjoyed walking with you on the Pacific crest Trail. I’m too old to ever dream of a doing it but if truth be known even if I were young I would never have Done so. But it’s been amazing I have enjoyed every minute of it and I cried along with you when your friend died. I actually heard that on the news before you announce that he had died. Of course I didn’t know who he was but I knew that someone on the Pacific crest Trail had been hit by a tree. Today I just felt like telling you how much I enjoyed it and You. I certainly will be following you to the end of the trail. Happy trails.

Those views of Three Fingered Jack and from your campsite were just gorgeous. I also appreciate the way you spruced-up that 2000(!) mile marker. I've really enjoyed vicariously hiking with you! Oregon is probably my favorite place.

I'm an old salt from Maine, spent half my growing up years there. I watched the sunsets closely because I sailed a lot back then. "Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning." That evening red sky means tomorrow's day will be nice for you.

Many years ago, I backpacked west to east. Briietenbush hot springs, west, over the north flank of Mt. Jefferson. I camped that first night in a snow well under a tree. The next day, continued east, off trail. Crossed the Warm Springs reservation. Came out on the Metolius River. Continued to Hells Canyon, and back. It took about a month.. I had just graduated community college, forestry. Must have been 1986. Congratulations on your journey. We have crossed paths many times on the trail. Just different times.

Watching your videos - which are outstanding! - is always great. They do, however, show how tremendously different Oregon is now than when I section-hiked the state in the mid-90's. So many areas have been burned over that they look completely different then when I was hiking through. At least it's good to see the life coming back. A couple of those fires burned so close to the town of Sisters that at least parts of it had to be evacuated (like nearby Black Butte). On one of my trips, a late evening thunderstorm lit off a fire within a mile of where I was camped by a lake and planning to take a zero day the next day. Two smokejumpers were dropped in early in the morning following the storm, and I decided to stay for the zero, figuring I could wade into the lake if the fire blew up. Fortunately it didn't and the smokejumpers put out the hot spot. They came clanking up the trail hiking out the end of that day carrying HUGE packs with chainsaws, shovels, etc. I asked how heavy they were. The answer - probably close to 100 pounds each. Those folks are beasts in he absolute best sense of the word!

Those were definitely goats, we saw droppings all over the top of the ridges. We climbed Three Jack the day I met you at Timberline lodge. We came down the scree field, think skiing in loose dirt. It was much faster coming down than going up, the up route we followed the tree line, and then across the back side on the top of the ridge.

In the army when we did physical training the drill sergeants used to say go to "muscle failure". I couldn't help but hike that way. The girl that got the record (Jennifer Davis)on the AT said the first time she didn't hike to muscle failure and the second time she did. I met her at Damascus. She is very tall.

Sorry Kate, the mountain at 5:50 is Three Finger Jack. We climbed this peak after seeing you at Timberline Lodge. I was incorrect at my prior comment. Keep strong, no more bee's hopefully, and I hope the snow is light as you go north. My wife sent a care package to Snoqualmie Pass post office, remember it is only open from 8-12.
