Cool sun rays through clouds. Amazing to be out there, and part of those grand mountain top vistas. I love those 360 selfies hikers take of themselves, on the mountain tops.

You're doing great! Thanks for your videos. I'm reliving it all from last year through you. You're doing great miles and it will pick up a lot in the next month. The feet thing will continue. You will get hiker hobble something fierce, especially in the mornings. It will feel like you are walking on glass. I had it for several weeks after the trail. Don't worry about the cramps in town. Your body is getting used to trail food and town food plays havoc on it. Enjoy! Keep on trekkin' and HYOH.

Congrats on a big milestone this week! If sleep problems are related to physical reasons here are a few ideas from a 49 year old woman who also loves backpacking...I did NOT do well with the ever loved therma rest neo-air mattress - I am a side sleeper, I actually experimented with over a dozen mattresses (gotta love REI's return policy) and found that I needed a rectangular pad that was WIDE (25") - NEMO has several models at different weight points...this helped a lot. I also do not like the inflatable pillows, they are too hard for me - I bought a 3oz down pillow that packs down small from Hammock Gear and it's heavenly...and finally, I honestly hardly sleep on the ground any more - I have found a hammock to be hands down the best sleep on the trail. And I just saw Bob K's message about using a golf ball on your feet and I 100% agree! Do everything early on that you can to figure out the best systems to make yourself comfortable - You got this!!!

Woot woot! Congrats on 100! Steady will win out. Keep enjoying it, a positive attitude will go a long way. As far as the stomach issues is it just after rich food off trail? Or on trail too? If both try drinking more water.

KZbin is a funny thing. A month ago I had no idea you even existed, and now I find myself getting just a bit anxious if I don't hear from you for a few days. Crazy! Anyway, sounds like you're still doing well. Very curious to hear how you coped (or chose not to!) with the bitter cold that just blasted through these parts.

way to go! hey....suggestion for your feet. I personally feel this should be done in the morning and NOT when your feet are all tore up in the later portions of the say, but try picking up a golf ball and rolling out that tissue that got all tight as you slept. It helps me a lot. Mine's actually not a golf ball, but a golf ball sized Acuball mini, but other than the texture they are the same size. Another thing would be to roll out the tight muscles of your calves. Those bigger muscles as they tense up are (to my understanding) pulling and putting extra strain on the smaller adjoining muscles of your foot. If you use a water bottle and roll side to side on your calves it will feel great and ease up some of that tension that MIGHT be causing pain. That's not expert advice, but just a thought from another biped that walks and hikes :)

don't feel bad about playing it safe or leaning towards comfort. this is not a race. we love the trail for many reasons but rushing isn't one of them. lol. Btw-my feet also get sore around the ten mile mark, even earlier if there's a lot of rocks/boulder scrambles. i also have plantar fasciitis issues. i use both Dr Scholls and superfeet inserts. they help a lot with plantar, a little with the soreness. I'm still looking for that one insert that makes my feet feel like they're on clouds so please let us know how your testing goes. and thanks for these videos.

FYI, Yes, people all along the AT in front of you have been reporting stomach problems. Several have left the trail. Some have stopped at Walmart and gotten Imodium and tried to continue. None that have gone to doctors/emergency room have report the results, so, no one knows if it is a bug going around, bad food from somewhere or from water on the trail.
@JayWandersOut7 жыл бұрын
Definitely no hurry yet. From the numbers people are getting at the start it sounds like maybe 1/3 of the people have started so far so most haven't even started yet.

Aren't the bears still hibernating, even in the south? I'd sleep with my food and make them fight me for it. Seriously, I've done it, happily the bears were a no show.
