Day 16 takes us from Pines Campground across Hwy 14 to Fort Collins and then north to Cheyenne Wyoming where we pick up Interstate 80 heading into Nebraska. Hwy 14 is a scenic road that follows the Cache La Poudre River for over 70 miles. We've officially left Colorado now heading back home to Georgia but some may wonder why we didn't just head south through Colorado into the more southern states. Unfortunately, we have to make an unforeseen stop on our way home in northern Indiana. We have an appointment that now dictates our rate of travel and route that we have to take to accomplish this errand. More on this in following videos :-)

The midwest summer heat wave set an all time record. That was one of the reasons for cutting our trip a bit shorter than planned. We had fled to the higher altitudes to escape the hot and humid summer of Georgia only to discover that it followed us. Temps were in the 90s above 9K feet and even 88 degrees above 11K feet. At that altitude, the sun actually feels hotter and we were uncomfortable. The trip out to Colorado was excessively hot and it was 92 degrees at 6 pm on this day. Our main goal was to find places with power so that we could run our A/C especially in the evenings.

Beautiful scenic drive with beautiful mountain views. To bad you guy's couldn't have stayed in one of the campgrounds along the river .The stops along the river made up for that .

Yes, unfortunately this was our last official day in Colorado and we were sorry to see it end. We would have much preferred to have headed south out of Colorado with many more opportunities for great experiences such as Great Sand Dunes National Park but we were on a mission not of our choosing :-)

Really enjoyed the shots of the Cache la Poudre River. Made that beautiful drive twice and have camped in 3 USFS campgrounds there. Even caught some fish in the river. Safe travels when you get back on the road.

Thank you so much for the kind words Ralph. We wish we would have had more time to try some of those campgrounds along the way but we had an appointment at Travel Lite that we had to get to. That whole stretch of Hwy was surprisingly beautiful :-)
