@Anti-Fake-ul9oe yep, but my daughter hunts with a rifle, i hunt with a rifle, my father hunts with a rifle, my grandfather hunted with a rifle like my great grandfather and his father before him. Our bows and spears were never taken from us here in the Gwich’in Nation, we adopted firearms and they are an important part of our culture now. I mean no disrespect but life up here walks the line between life and death, i wont put my families life in danger by not using the most effective way to hunt and protect my people.

I had to smile when I saw the knife that you were using on those caribou. I'm 73 years old and live in northeastern PA and I've had a Buck Knife just like that since I was 12 or so and started deer hunting. It's skinned it's share of PA whitetails over the years but it's been retired like me for more than a few years. Time to hand it down to one of my grandsons I guess. Just watched your moose hunt video and enjoyed that also.

@@enigmaticgwichin1630 it real interesting to see different people methods of gutting and butchering. My brother-in-law last year used an old method. Cut the head off like you did. Then gutted all the way down and pulled everything out in one price. Really clean. We bring our Caribou home whole gutted carcass or cut in half with the fur on to let the meat cool. That way not so tough meat.
@enigmaticgwichin1630
@enigmaticgwichin1630 Жыл бұрын
@@muskrat411 yeah the guts out whole works well. If you can hit them in the neck then split the brisket without hitting anything inside it does come out clean. A lot of people bring them in fur on as a way to keep mud and sand off the meat but I’ve almost always brought them home cut up unless I’m short on time. Cut in half or fur on seems to get more hair on the meat the times I’ve done it that way. Like you said it’s really is cool to see the different ways people deal with their meat.

This was mid September? I drove the Dempster October 1 and there was lots of snow. Did you shoot that caribou in the hondquarter? Dump the AK and go bolt action and concentrate on shot placement. I loved the tour of Arctic Villiage, alwasys wanted to see it. You do drymeat different than we do but it looks delicious.

This was at the end of August. 3 neck shots on both. One shot each would have taken them down but I didn’t want them to run another 20 yards to where I would have to pack them to the four wheeler. AR-223 here is the number one black bear and caribou gun now . We’ll be going back up there next spring for tribal meetings and in the fall to do this again. But next time we’ll dry more than 2 caribou, prolly do 5-6. Dry meat goes quick. Thanks for watching and writing my friend👍 hope all is well with you and your family

So I’m watching and trying to get as much info as possible. I noticed that you skinned it you skinned it starting at the belly-I do it that way. Other videos start at the spine. Do you do it you way to be able to use the hide for blankets, clothing and other things? Thank you for sharing videos

Awesome! Glad you found the channel. There are definitely ways to come up and hunt guided and DIY hunts. For more Alaska hunting info I’d check out a podcast called “The Northern Hunter” podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-northern-hunter-podcast/id1653485887?i=1000640919460 A friend of mine created this podcast to inform people on how to go about hunting Alaska. Yeah I cut at the belly. The skin is thinner and the hair is shorter. We also make sleeping mats with the skins. A long time ago the caribou skins were used to make all sorts of articles of clothing. But nowadays it’s mostly sleeping Matt’s that are made from caribou skins and used for bait for trapping. Thanks for watching and writing it’s much appreciated. Happy new year and god bless

Thanks for watching. I waited for a clear shot for almost half a hour, I put 3 rounds into the necks of 2 caribou. No damage to heart and important internal organs. I could have shot once per caribou. But then they would have run about 50 yards into the tusuks. Meat damage confined mostly to the necks, no pass through hits on any and no misses. Both within 30 yards of each other. Thanks for watching and have a great day👍
