Without a doubt, Pat of Shelter Institute and his family are special people. As the saying goes "He is the Salt of the Earth". Its obvious Jesse and Alyssa are good people. All the negative comments such as, you should have done it this way or that, you are wasting so much time being precise, etc, etc the list is too long. All this is not necessary in my opinion. They have a close contact with their engineer, they have the expertise of Pat, and above all a great work ethic. And once its finished, I am sure it will be structurally sound, and a nice home. I personally thank them for sharing this journey.

I apprenticed with my grandfather. Timber frame and log building. I had to be able to do everything by hand before i was allowed to use a power tool. 😀 heck of a good way to be grounded in basics and appreciate what you're doing.

Its so awesome that Shelter would take on such a huge project on location with the knowledge and organization they have considering they obviously have no trouble filling their spots at their own facility. Jesse and Alyssa, you must be so thankful that they took this on. I know you would have done this all on your own had they not come on board with you, but the priviledge of their experience is a monumental advantage. Can't wait for tomorrow.

I watch this and remember the founders, building homes in the wilderness with only neighbors to help, yet it got done ,without power tools or electricity,I have log cabin from the twenties where I spend my spring and fall ,no where near the complex joints shown here, it stands firm but has its limits, very inspiring ,for me it's the people helping each other that's the most import lesson, together we can do anything!

One of the things i like about this onsite timber framing class is that the students get to experience what it is like to do what they are doing, in various weather conditions. Many of these students will go on to build their own timber frame houses / constructions and to experience the weather conditions, the frost on the wood, having to clear it off before working on the timbers, stuff like, is experience you cannot get when in a purpose built building which Shelter uses when teaching these classes.

I can't help but imagine Pats' amazement when he realizes the scope of what you pros: Alyssa,Jesse, Levi et al, have brought through your videos. I'm not surprised that some hard working people are dinosaurs when it comes to you delightful KZbinrs and it pleases me that you yourselves are hard working and honestly voice your frustrations (in a PG way) making evident the misuse of video and audio by the likes of Hollywood, for the most part, since the inception of video. Hats off!

This is the most exciting thing I have ever seen on You Tube. Yesterday was a tear filled moment. I feel like it is my house after watching so many videos and now they are starting the build. The IPad has been following me around the house all day, followed by my dog Lola, and I do mean everywhere. Here in New England we have about 8 inches of snow so no interest in going anywhere. Sincerely hope the weather holds while the building is going!!!!!!! Everyone have fun and bring your A game! Jane and her wacky sidekick Lola, the Boston Terrier

Love the videos! Before I watch any other videos I look for yours first. You need to try the winter window melting mix the weatherman gave us to use on your stones. I know it is too late for the class... Anyway a spray bottle with 1/3 water and 2/3 rubbing alcohol when spritzed on windshields or anything else will melt your ice into slush. Alcohol has a very low freezing point and absorbs the water melting the ice at the same time. May help Future trials!!

@scprepper 50 - It may be out of focus, I only wear my glasses when I drive. But some of the shots were very nice. I really like the shot of the moon coming up over the mountain. There is so much happening, so Alisa must have a mountain of video to review and piece together. He must have had 10 hours of video squeezed into a 35 minute youtube. Not to mention, his videos are way better than anything I could do.
