Its the bird with 2 wings....your killer genius rf equipment on one side and that ultra high fidelity audio on the other side. Prime....you are the top of the pile. The Drag N' Fly from tennessee said that and i got down.

Does the B&W 5100 still work? I think they might have a design flaw. I have a friend here on KZbin, 441bsa1968 is his channel, and he's had to have the plate transformer rewound 2 times. Basically, B&W decided to lay the 6146 tubes on their sides, and that is a no-no with that tube. If you have a plate-to-grid short, there goes the B+ transformer. I have yet to run across a 5100 that doesn't have a blown B+ transformer, especially if they use the rig a lot. Check out 441bsa1968's channel. He has a couple of videos where he uses his B&W with a couple of really great receivers. 73, Dave Hebert
@tomward83394 жыл бұрын
Dave Hebert Hey I’ve got 4 B&W that work great
@davehebert34034 жыл бұрын
@@tomward8339 Do you use them very often, or should I say, do you use one of them a lot? I'd cycle using them, if I were you. If even a spec of the plate starts to fall on the grid, it will, more than likely, take out the B+ transformer. I guess the safe thing to do with that rig would be to only use the 6146 tubes for a given amount of time. You should be able to find a spec sheet on the tube, and you'll want to look for something called the "mean time before failure." Use those tubes for 75% of the MTBF, if you wanna stay on the safe side.
@tomward83394 жыл бұрын
Dave Hebert I use them maybe twice a week. I hope they out last me! The tubes being horizontal is a bad idea.
@davehebert34034 жыл бұрын
@@tomward8339 Yes, laying the 6146 on its side is not good. I did a bit of research on the 6146, and the manufacturer says, quite clearly, to not put that tube on its side. If you look at a data sheet on the 6146, it says that the operating position of the tube can be any. OTOH, I found data, either on the web or in a book, that said that you don't want to use that tube on its side. It might have been Bill Orr who told me that, actually. Can't remember exactly -- too long ago.
@davehebert34034 жыл бұрын
I think RCA came out and said not to use it on its side at a later date or something. If I had to guess, that was probably after the war was over, and they were no longer manufacturing the tube. If it was during the war, fine -- let those tubes blow up so we can sell more of them. Greed is a funny thing sometimes.
