I asked local players who do the same thing and got 3 of the same answers: 1. Randomize your hand so your opponent, if playing a card where they get to choose a card from your hand to discard, they have no knowledge of what it is they are choosing. Some players, who don’t shuffle in their hand, like to put cards they know they want to use next to the right of their hand, and so people will assume that choosing a card that is on the right side will mean getting rid of an essential card. 2. It’s a nervous tick/just something they do to keep their hands busy/saw someone doing it once and everyone has started to do it. The nervous tick this is what most people have told me as their reason for doing it. Others may not agree. 3. I forgot the third one and will replace this when I do.
