Day 20 - Camino Frances - Caldazilla de la Cueza to Sahagun

Day 20 - 20th September - Calzadilla de la Cueza to Sahagun - 23km
Today was a very important day for me.
Sahagun marks the officially half way point on the Camino and I was very very happy to achieved that milestone.
The day was also filled with emotion as I was not the first member of my family to walk into Sahagun. My 4x great grandfather William Sutherland entered Sahagun on 24th December 1808. William was a soldier in the 42nd Highlanders who were posted to Spain to help defend Spain against the French invasion led by Napoleon. This war is generally known as the Peninsular War (1808-1814). In December 1808 things were not going well for the British and a massive retreat was underway as Napoleons troops pressured them from the south and attempted to cut them off from the east at Sahagun. Napoleons troops crossed the Pyrenees and followed the path to Sahagun just as we pilgrims have done!
There is a little of William’s story in my video. I hope it all makes sense!
