Hey Steve. I’m 15 and took a class in woodworking this year in school because it interested me. You have been a huge mentor for me from explaining pocket holes, safety precautions, and maybe even more important than safety, getting tools for cheap! All I have right now is a cheap table saw, a couple pipe clamps, a kreg 320, a drill, a sander, and some scrap wood that my school let me take home. Over the past week I have started on a small end table, made a crosscut jig (although the miter slots in the saw are those janky cheap ones), and I’m starting on a mallet, although the head is redwood so I probably won’t use it for any chisel work, just decor. You have taught me most of everything I know since my shop teacher wasn’t the best - he was missing a pinky. Please continue to be a huge inspiration to many. Thank you, mate.

Since I'm a woodworking newbie...I've been building out my shop. I just got a miter saw and I have built my miter saw station this past week!
@rwind6564 жыл бұрын
What are you building into it? Features? How's it going? We use a rolling cart that I bought off of Craigslist at some point, and for infeed and outfeed, we put up some stanchions. I have been considering whether I should devote our limited space to something more elaborate as we use miter saw so much. But we also need to remove it and use it elsewhere. I've been looking at videos for various sleds and might spend my time making a portable sled for the miter saw instead.

@@rwind656 I have taken over a shop that was behind my parent's home. It is about 18X24 And my parents used it for storage and a lawnmower. They had another storage shed that we combined, so other than a riding mower that I can move in and out...I have all the rest of the space! I do have a jobsite table saw, that I plan to make a better stand for. I built a shop table that is just a bit lower than my table saw to double as an outfeed table. It has locking casters on it. The miter saw station is 12ft long overall that I put on the end wall as a permanent station with plenty of room to hold my benchtop router table on it, along with a cubby for smaller stuff. Underneath the station, I have lots of storage for hand tools and such. Above the right side of my station, I have some lumber storage. And that's about where I am right now :)

@@malonecustomdesigns how's it going with the workshop? I have definitely decided on keeping our miter saw stand portable and rollable and separate. But I just saw a tiny workshop,"8x6” on KZbin and it is a marvel of organization and absolutely amazing what he has fit into such a tiny space. I think it was on his channel but might have been somewhere else where I saw the table saw slide up underneath a work surface right above the table. We might go that route.

A couple years ago I built a very sturdy desk for my home office situation but it never got used all that often. The second this lock down hit, I was working from home and using my desk on a daily basis. It was 4’x 2’ and I was always quite cramped while sitting at it because I use a dual monitor setup for my work. So this week I finished my expansion project to extend the desk to 6’ in length. Essentially all I did was extend the top surface area and keep the base and cabinet area under it the same. It was fun remodeling the new wood top to match the existing base. The whole desk is just made of pine but I used a simple Shou Sugi Ban technique and darker stain to make it look more rustic. It turned out great! It was definitely interesting taking a project apart and putting it back together again. It made me realize how careless I can be with pocket hole placement... By the way, thank you for these daily videos! I look forward to them everyday

One thing I like to look for when doing dips is that the bars slightly flare, I've always found those more comfortable on my wrists shoulders in comparison to bars that jut out at 90 angles, something more around a 75-80, just enough so that my grip and arm placement is natural. I just completed routing, staining, and installing them in my wife's sewing room last weekend! Next project is garage clean up and planning how i want to fix up the garage to support my growing interest in woodworking. 1" wooden dowels won't be strong enough long term. Think about the physics of it, your weight + how much you need to "pushdown" to accelerate yourself in an upward vector against gravity. Your safest wooden design would be a 2x4 or 2x3, with the longer direction vertical. Especially if you're going to make the wider so you can do some hanging rows. Think of the old wooden ladder, first thing everyone always says, make sure not to step in the middle of the rung. As for the linear movement of pushing out or in, nothing you can do if you want to get in there from one side, unless you build the side higher than you are tall and cross member the top.

I did a full inventory of all of my tools and equipment in the shop because the weather herein NE California has bern so iffy and cold that I could not pull my table saw to set up outside to cut pieces for anything. But now the weather is finally getting better and I am getting some outside projects done like pruning and planting trees.

This past week I added an exterior door to my garage. The garage is our main way to go in and out of our house and my workshop/chill area. My big garage door is getting worn out from all the opening and closing....so, I installed an exterior door. Now I only need to open the big garage door when I use the planer or table saw. :) It was nerve wrecking cutting a huge hole in the wall....but it came out nice and I'm sure I got it all sealed up right. Love your videos Steve. Keep it up....man..... or dude...whatever.

I made the wood / plywood storage cart. My shop is so much more organized now. I have also been making tiny boxes from some exotic wood scraps. Lots of fun!

I do have a shop and my recent projects are: - Platform veggie garden box. 4' x 2' x 1' on 30 inch legs. No more bending over to weed and rabbit proof. built using leftover 4x4 posts (legs), various bits of 1x6 cut off from other projects AND a recycled pallet. - PVC drip irrigation for the raised veggie garden using 1" PVC and an old gallon milk jug. No gluing needed as the water isn't under pressure. Cut the pipe to size to fit in the perimeter and a leg down the center (kind of like "[|]"). Drill 1/16" holes about every 3"-4" to gently water seedlings and just the roots of mature plants. The milk jug is a reservoir for the system. Cut the bottom inch off the jug and gut a hole in the lid just large enough to screw in a threaded PVC adapter/coupler and mount upside down to a corner of the pipe system using a 3-way elbow. Just dump about 3 quarts of water from my rain barrel in the reservoir and walk away. Everything gets watered equally. - Straight edge table saw jig. I needed an adjustable jig to square up slats from pallets I've collected recently from deliveries. - Cleaning out and organizing my shop. Did you know it takes about 2 years for 1" of paint to solidify in a 5-gallon bucket? Mate alternative(s): Definitely "Buddy" for me. Thanks for the videos, buddy.

I've done so much spring cleaning! Made a food dish tray for my cat to elevate her food dishes (and keep them in one place together). I'm currently in the middle of re-doing a childhood bookshelf (it's needs an updated look and fresh colour).

I finished my very first woodworking project yesterday. A picture frame for a puzzle my wife and I did. Looks great! I don't think I would have wanted to do it if it wasn't for you, Steve. Thanks and keep up the great work!!

I finished a TV stand i've been working on for a while. My wife wanted a cross to put in our yard to represent the "Faith Over Fear" movement (Southeast US). I made one using some old pine and a half lap joint. I routed "Faith Over Fear" across the horizontal piece and painted the letters white. She wrapped it in Christmas lights, which is a trend in the South right now during this pandemic. Keep the videos coming, thanks for your work!

Regarding lockdown/quarantine woodworking, I’m a beginner and, after learning from your videos, made a cool tea chest. Thanks for the inspiration!

Well I’m currently on my 2. woodworking project, the rolling lumber cart that you got there. Very nice, thank you so much for the inspiration to start this very useful hobby.

I've been cleaning, organizing, and sharpening. I did build a tool rack to hold stuff like rakes, shovels, axes, etc in my garden shed to keep them off of the floor and easy to access. I've also been practicing cutting all kind of joints, like dovetails, twisted box joints, etc. on scrap boards

HI Steve!! I'm really enjoying you lockdown woodworking series. You asked for what we are doing in the shop with all this time, well for me it has been integrating the kids into my workflow and my youtube vids! It's a very different pace, but a very satisfting one to introduce kids to basic tools and techniques. See you tomorrow!!

I've been spending the last two weekends making your bed w/storage. It's for a friend and he's been "helping", haha! We modified it down to a Full size, and went with drawers along the length of it, only. This weekend we cut, route, and finish the drawer faces and we'll be done! Once I get that thing out of my garage, I'll begin my own BMW build! Thanks!

What I ended up doing was turning my backyard into a child's play area. We have a two year old and usually we just go to the park for outside fun, its a 3 blocks from house. So basically cleaned up the backyard which wasn't much of anything. Its basically used as a place for dog to go poo when its too rainy for a proper walk or we don't have time. But clean it up, and must say its become my favorite place. All it costed me was a narly cut on my finger when I accidently dropped some retaining wall bricks I needed to put in to hold back neighbors garden which had moved the fence.

I took some time and finally built myself a proper computer desk for my pc. Ultra wide for a triple monitor setup with a desktop surface that folds up to close the cabinet when not in use to reduce its overall footprint. I'm super happy with it!

As requested I am in the UK and have been busy clearing out my workshop and finally building new rolling cabinets for all my larger tools, bandsaw, pillar drill, mitre saw, router table and table saw. all being made from bits of Plywood and mdf that have been hanging around and blocking the shop.

I look forward to your videos every day Steve! Keep them coming! This last weekend I was able to knock out two projects in the shop. A book shelf for my kids books and a craft cabinet for all of their craft supplies. I work for an "essential" company so both fortunately and unfortunately I do not have any more extra time now than I did before but I am still finding time to work in the shop!

Been working 4-6 hours a day in the shop, working on harbor freight organizer storage, planter box, mobile work station with T-tracks, and finish coats on a big lumber rack I built years ago but never put finish on. And cleaning and organizing. And painting other projects that have been sitting unpainted for awhile.

I've been making a lot of your projects, Steve! In the last 11 days, I've made the BMW, the California Casual Side Table, and a jointer jig. I want to make a crosscut sled before I start in on the Harmony Bench, but those are my next two projects! Looking forward to The Weekend Workshop, because I *badly* want to build the miter saw table.

So in my workshop I have been building a dresser for myself, my first furniture piece and I am having a great time and learning a lot. For your dip stands...I have been thinking about this too, why not something like a stackable sawhorse type of idea (no slip pads on bottom or work them on carpet), that way you may have more versatility when you want to do rows and other stuff. I love the pentagram skull thingy, and the way you made it a little creepier, I also love your ‘Crystal Lake’ sign, it has inspired me to make my own someday soon. Thanks for all the tips and videos.

I'm finishing a 6-month long project of upgrading my back deck and patio. Right now, I'm working on the "dry below." Once that is finished, I'll start to build some planters to go on the patio.

I don't really have any extra spare time as I have one of those low paid essential jobs but I've been overhauling a small flat bed trailer that was originally made to carry motorbikes. I've stripped and repainted all the metal parts, put a new plywood deck on it and now I'm making some wooden rails so I can slide a sailing dinghy on and off it using some foam and wood blocks. This makes it both more stable to tow with a lower center of mass than trailering it on it's launching trolley and I can more easily launch and retrieve it solo as I can rest in on the ramp out of the water while shuttling the trolley if there's nothing to tie up to.

Hey Steve. You asked what we were making. Right before lockdown I went out and purchased enough materials for 3 of your Workshop projects, but before getting to those I have been working on a 10-ft Dining table with Oak top and Pine structure. It was supposed to be unveiled at Easter, but no longer of course. But I'm nearly done, just waiting for the stain choices to be delivered and get approval from the wife. I should have it done by Sunday, and moved upstairs sometime next week.

Good day mate from a rookie woodworker in Norway. I really enjoy watching your videos. I think you woodworking video is honest. Not with fancy cnc machines and extreme fingerjoints. It´s project i can follow with simple tools. I love it :) I been spending much time cleaning and organising the shop. Making toolwalls and stuff like that. Yesterday i made bicycle stands for my girl so they could ride Zwift with me. That was very popular. (We still got tons of snow here i live.) Anyhow.. Just want to say your videos are very inspiring :D

My lockdown projects. I finished a counter top cabinet for the upstairs bathroom. It fits between the two sinks and has three drawers and double doors. Now I’m restoring a Sears joiner I acquired last year. Very heavy cast iron. The date in the cast iron is 1967. It’s 4 years older than I am.

I've been focusing on improving my basic skills in my workshop. I just finished my Gen2 assembly table/cart and am now rebuilding my table saw station. In between that I've managed to build a replacement spice carousel for the pantry and a monitor shelf for my home office. I've also been trying to get my dust collection system to be more effective. My shop in my one refuge right now. I'm not good at remote work as I do love my office and engaging with people...so anything I can do to distract myself is awesome. Thanks for putting out the daily videos! They make my lunch hour a lot more interesting.

Hi Steve! I appreciate your videos and I'll be watching regardless of what project you take on next. It's just nice to have something to break up the work-from-home-day. I've been working on building myself some QS White Oak kitchen cabinets to replace the old, painted over ones that have been in since I bought my house. I've been able to justify upgrading a few tools in the process with the money I'm saving by doing it myself.

It’s been said a lot, but I truly love these updates. I make the time to watch these everyday in between all the chaos here. We are in full lockdown and have twins under 3 and 1 x 5 year old in the house. Both my wife and I are still trying to work but it’s not easy that’s for sure! Anyway, I’ve managed to squeeze in a little DIY. I refurbed an ancient surfacer (jointer) and finally managed to get it running this last weekend so can finally get to doing the bed for the 2nd twin :)

The department of wife has approved the building of a 20x20 foot workshop when we bought our house. I've been digging footings and getting it ready for a concrete pour. Too bad the lock down has prevented me from progressing. Your videos are a great alternative to building my own stuff. Keep up the good work!

The "time-off" has given me time in the shop to finish up an Oak Floating Queen Bed frame & headboard (I deliver to a friend this Friday). PLUS, some shop projects I've needed forever... oh, and found many things I thought I lost - it's mazing what you find when you have time to clean the shop up! LOL
