I love that as the Word was read to the people, God did not just leave it up to the people to understand on their own. Instead he provided them with the Tara Leigh Cobbles of that day to guide the people with their own Bible Recaps. He is a faithful and good provider of everything we need and so much more and He is absolutely where the joy is!🙏We appreciate you TLC!!

As I was reading through chapter 9, I began circling all the the things God has done over the years to provide. I had to read slowly or I'd miss something because there were so many things! And then, after several things Ezra lists that He provided, it was followed by a "But they... forgot, were stiff necked, disobedient, rebelled, arrogant, refused to obey, stubborn, sinful, etc." However, it continues to remind us of His compassion every-single-time! He didn't give up on them. I'm so glad I can rest in the knowledge that He is everlasting and unchanging. If He never gave up on them, then He won't give up on me! I can get down in the dumps about awful I've treated Him and how quickly I, too, become stubborn and arrogant, but praise HIM for loving me anyway! "In your abundant compassion, you did not destroy them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and compassionate God." (9:31) Praise You Lord! You allow me to come back to you time and time again, after every set back and all of my failures. Thank you! Thank you for being my rescuer and my redeemer. I have nothing fancy to give back to you, but please take my heart and make it more like yours! I search for yours, God. Lead me, God, and let me stay focused on you! In His powerful name, Jesus, I pray, amen! Thank you BR family for studying along with me. We have almost made it through the OT and I fall more and more in love with Him and grow more in awe of Him with each read. ❤

Our God is a Promise Keeper because He is righteous (Neh 9:8). He is "a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love" (Neh 9:17). He does not abandon us because of his great compassion, grace, and mercy (Neh 9:19, 31). In His compassion He delivers us time after time (Neh 9:29). Hallelujah and praise God! 🙌🏽

Is there a greater prayer in the whole OT? Even Solomon’s prayer of Temple dedication focused on his own dedication and works and majesty, but the prayer of the Levites in Neh 9 sums up the whole relationship between the patient, merciful, powerful, redemptive Lord and His people. At last, we see God’s people broken for their sins, weeping so much that they need to be reminded that “the joy of the Lord is their strength” (Neh 8:10). God is a God of joy-not judgment and retribution-but joy, and knowing Him and Who He has been and will be in our lives brings joy and joy brings strength! I’m then not weighed down by regret or fear of things beyond my control. When the enemy attacks with worry at all that’s going wrong, “the joy of the Lord is my strength”: look at all He’s done, and He never changes or leaves us.

In 2023, The Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) begins at sundown on Friday the 29th. It lasts for a whole week, and we’re gonna be building an awesome fort (Suka)with our grandsons😊 It seems that all of the appointed days (moedim) are very family oriented. I praise God that we “get to observe His appointed days, just like we “get to go to the assembly (church). What a mighty God, we serve!

The prayer in chapter 9 is beautiful. It is a reminder of humanity's sinfulness and God's faithfulness and that God has all of the power. "You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you" (Nehemiah 9:6 ESV). "But you are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and did not forsake them" (Nehemiah 9:17 ESV). "Nevertheless, in your great mercies you did not make an end of them or forsake them, for you are a gracious and merciful God" (Nehemiah 9:31 ESV).

It was an emotionally moving experience to walk through Ez 9, recounting (yes, that’s 43 verbs TLC highlighted!) the way His mercies never cease and His steadfast love endures forever! It makes me want to record my family’s journey, from joy to death to hope restored. And then Ez 10 tells how this wasn’t just emotion, but a time for action. It challenges me to record my response and commitment to His steadfast love.

Amen! Action is often overlooked by us as we accept the gifts of God or enjoy His blessings. And in time of prayer and waiting on God, I am learning there is "action" that I am supposed to be doing. GOD is working and as I wait, I am growing closer to Him, learning more about who He is in His Word and in Prayer. He is transformeing me. GOD gives us gifts and you are very good at articulating Gods work in your life and helping shed a different light on each days rreading.Thank you for your comments!

Amen! God is faithful! We fail and forget and rebel. He reminds us and gives us consequences and then waits for us to cry out for Him. Then immediately He is there, ready to hear our confession, forgive our rebellion, and lead us forward into deeper relationship with Him! So often this happens when we hear His word and understand some part of His character. We have our eyes opened to a lie we had believed about Him or ourselves or how the world works. Then the truth comes in and shines onto the grey areas and the blur vanishes and we have that "aha!" Moment. Thank you God for revealing Your truth to us through your word! You never fail!

My God shot was similar to Tara Leigh's. In chapter 8:8 the Levites explain the passages of the Torah as they are read. God wants to be known! He wants us to hear, understand and be in relationship with Him! He us not a God who is far off, but a God who is near. I thank God for pastors and teachers (including TLC) who study His Word and make it clear to us so we can know and obey Him!

God wants us to feel joy. I have found such satisfaction and JOY in reading God's word every day. Human sin and our falling short is frustrating and disappointing. I love that Nehemiah and Tara Leigh BOTH remind us not to see the extensive failures of man, but to look for GOD in the daily readings. If we look for God, we find JOY! He's where the joy is! "Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the LORD." Nehemiah 8:9 NIV

One thing I personally noticed while reading (this is more of a theory as I obviously can not fathom God’s plan), was that during the transition from the Old to the New Testament we see a lot of repentance and humility from God’s people and makes me wonder if God had in his to plan to always bring the birth and ultimate sacrifice of Jesus but he was just waiting until his people were “ready”. Regardless of what the reality is, I will always have faith in God’s plan, I pray y’all will as well because God is good. God bless y’all today!

4th time in this year-long reading of the Bible. I may like to oversimplify things, but now for the first time I see that the prayer of salvation is the story of God's people. He wants us to remember Him. To know we are sinners, to recognize who He is and what He did for us, and to believe His truth, and receive His graceful freedom from sin.

I highly recommend going to celebrate Sukkot with people. It is pronounced Sue-coat though. The way Tara Leigh pronounces, it sounds like she is saying Sue-cot, which sounds like Sue-cah (Sukkah), which is the name for shelters/booths/tents in Hebrew that people create for the Sukkot holiday today. 😊❤️

On October 31 the people assembled again, and this time they fasted and dressed in burlap and sprinkled dust on their heads. Those of Israelite descent separated themselves from all foreigners as they confessed their own sins and the sins of their ancestors. They remained standing in place for three hours while the Book of the Law of the Lord their God was read aloud to them. Then for three more hours they confessed their sins and worshiped the Lord their God. Nehemiah 9:1‭-‬3
