Jesus doesn’t promise that He’ll eliminate the chaotic circumstances, but in that chaos, He will give us rest, which is Himself, and a peace that passes understanding.

My pastor did a sermon on Matt. 11:28-30 where he had us circle all the "me"s and "I"s. So, I think he reads it the same way as you. He said: The Problem We Face-Weariness (inside), Burden (outside), The Promise We Are Given-The gift of REST; His Godly nature assures He will keep His promises, The Prescription That's Available-The Yoke, the yoke is a place of labor AND learning, The Person That We Know-lowly, humble, meek, gives grace

My God-shot: I don’t have to do this alone. As the old hymnal says “take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there…”. Praise you Father that your yoke is easy and your burden is light.” ““Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Jesus calls us to go to Him with our weariness and our burdens. He is gentle and humble in heart and we can find rest for our souls in Him (Matt 11:28). I was on a Zoom prayer meeting this morning and this is one of the verses quoted that I wrote down and then it was in our reading. I love when God does that. ❤️

As many others do, I love these passages at the end. "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11: 28-29 ESV). This life seems to be a never-ending rat race. Always moving, always doing, always striving. But, the Lord calls us to rest in Him. We don't have to earn salvation because the work is already done! But, what is even better is that there will be an end to the toil in glory. I need to remember that this world is not the end. There is an eternal kingdom where the burdens of life will truly be gone because we will be with Jesus forever. Praise His holy name!

God showed mercy and grace to JTB because God knew his heart!! Even with doubt, God could see what we couldn't! He is soooo amazing! Today also hit me hard with the yoke. Culture is giving all of these "rules" of how we should live and it's leading to more anxiety and stress and death for people. God asks so little of us in comparison that following and being obedient to Him is so much easier! Thank you TLC for this platform. It has been such a blessing! Have a wonderful day all!

My God shot today was ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:29‬ ‭ Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. God says 'let Me teach you, because I am gentle and humble at heart ❤️ and you will find rest for your souls. Our God is Gentle and Humble at Heart 💜 and He wants to teach us personally, lighten our load and give us rest. 💜😊 Who wouldn't want to learn from and serve a living God who's like that?!?!? 🥰

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” ‭‭’Learn from me,’ Jesus says. In John 1: 3 we read, “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” So starting in Genesis 1 we have been reading and learning God’s will through His word punctuated with TLC’s recap reminding us each day “He’s where the joy is.”

The Bible is so honest. Do you ever doubt? Jesus addresses this today Blessed is the one who is not offended by me. Jesus performed most of His miracles in his home town of Capernum. They saw the most, but believed the least. God‘s biggest acts and miracles don’t necessarily change hearts. Only soft hearts submit to the evidence of God. Hard hearts resist it. Jesus reaches out to the weary and burdened. Esp those who are weary in attempt to live up to the law. Jesus yoke is easy. His burden is light. Come to ME all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Jesus is where the rest and joy is. “Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬, ‭22‬-‭23‬, ‭27‬-‭30‬

👉 In regard to JTB's question to Jesus from prison, I'd like to offer another possible explanation for you to consider: According to some scholars I've read, there were at that time in Israel two different interpretations of what the Messiah would be doing when he arrived - the Pharisees' view and the Essenes' view. The Pharisees believed there would be TWO Messiahs, and that the first one would be just a man who would help liberate Israel. The Essenes, on the other hand, believed there would be only ONE Messiah but with two different advents, and that he would be God incarnate and provide forgiveness of sins. So it's very possible that JTB was asking if Jesus was "the one who is to come," meaning the ONE Messiah with two different advents, or if they should "look for another," meaning TWO Messiahs with one advent each, Jesus' being the first. Now consider this also: Jesus listed several things for the disciples to relay back to John. All of them are Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah - EXCEPT FOR ONE: "the dead are raised up." That particular prophecy is not found in the Old Testament. It's found only in the Messianic Apocalypse, which is part of the Dead Sea Scrolls. It was part of the Essenes' beliefs and teachings. Therefore, by referring to this sign, Jesus may have been identifying which view of the Messiah was the correct one - that is, the Essenes' interpretation. (Sources: The Lost Prophecies of Qumran by Josh Peck, and the research of Dr. Ken Johnson)

@nikkigamble1256 Good question! It's funny, but in a sense, the Dead Sea Scrolls are already in our Bibles. That's because the Dead Sea Scrolls consist mainly of Old Testament books. In fact, fragments of every OT book except Esther have been found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. And since they're about a thousand years older than our previously oldest manuscripts, Bible translators have chosen in several places to go with the Dead Sea Scrolls' version. One example I know of is in Deuteronomy 32:8, where "sons of Israel" (KJV) was rendered "sons of God" (ESV), which alters its meaning significantly. But the Dead Sea Scrolls contain some other writings too. Amazingly, the theology of these other writings matches up very well to Christianity. They contain some prophecy, and it seems to be amazingly accurate - so accurate in fact that some of it is quoted in the New Testament! I'm referring to Jude 1:14-15, which comes from the Book of Enoch (Enoch 1). One of my favorite prophecies in the Dead Sea Scrolls says that the curtain in the temple would be torn in two - which we know happened (Matthew 27:51) - but get this, that prophecy is not found in the Old Testament! However, having said all that, it's my opinion - and pretty much every Christian theologian's opinion that I know of - that the extra-biblical material of the Dead Sea Scrolls should NOT be added to the Bible. The canon of Scripture is closed. It's complete as it is. Rather, we should simply use the Dead Sea Scrolls to gain more insight into the Bible.

Sometimes we just need an exhortation from Jesus Himself. “Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭2‬-‭4‬ Amen
