Hello Sesska, just wanted to give you a bit of background. Originally 11 regenerated on the top of the tower. When you saw the boots coming up the stairs that was supposed to be Peter Capaldi in Matts clothes. Moffat changed it because he didnt want Matt going out as a shouty old man and rewrote the final scene as a more tender goodbye for the fans. Karen Gillan just happened to be in London at the time filming Guardians of The Galaxy and they called her up and asked if shed like a walk on for the goodbye scene. Oh yeah, if this helps you laugh a little, both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan were wearing wigs. Matt had shaved his head for a movie role that had been shot before this filmed, and Karen of course was bald for the role of Nebula. I only ask that you please give Peter Capaldi a chance. It may take a while to warm up to him, but he really is a spectacular actor and a class act. All my best for the future, DF

Hopefully McGann and Eccleston too, since they’re both sound interested and Chris at least seems to be forgiving BBC. Yeah true he had his long life and he accepted that he was going to change. I feel even worse when thinking about the story of the 10th Doctor, he was so attached to that incarnation and was at his best while he was portrayed by David Tennant, but didn’t live any longer in the storyline than 6-7 years. So the best version of the Doctor had one of the shortest life spans, which makes his last words even more appealing.

12 is a tough sell at first as he is a doctor who has let all of his faults and insecurities and fears overwhelm him and shut down emotionally, so that emotionally he does not carry on the way he was -= he is a doctor that paradoxically has finally let his fears of what he is, his more negative aspects catch up to him and so takes steps to sort that out but in the process becomes more of that- so he is detached and dark at first especially, but his character arc is a stunning one- one of rediscovering empathy and the core reasons why he does what he does, becoming the most transformative doctor, and as a result one of the saddest and most powerful- a doctor forever defined by his deep regret at the negative aspects of his life and its effects on those around him. . I think you will find him a bit remote at first but hopefully grow to love him as so many others did.

I rate him as more intense + serious about what he is doing, which is good, + reminiscent of Pertwee. The unsure side reminiscent of Davison, + he is up with both for moral questioning self-scrutiny as they go along, I like best when the Doctor has that, he definingly should, so they are my fave 3. Matt shows the same caring side, but kept the same flippancy + action man confidence side as Tennant. Capaldi drops that, for which I prefer him over Matt.

not connecting deeply to fictional characters or even celebreties is actually a good thing. Being really invested in said things can be a sign of various mental illnesses and loneliness

@siN a - Not connecting to fictional characters and celebrities is a hallmark of unadulterated boringness. And Growing Up. YUCK. Everyone I've ever met who has never connected to any fictional character or celebrity or refuses to or has decided to is freaking repulsive. And said Repulsive People also tend to bite, be sadistic bastards and cold as hell to anyone who thinks differently.

I think this is too much though, it's disproportional, like someone shredded her family in front of her! Can't be healthy
@hellsingmongrel6 жыл бұрын
Actually, I looked it up recently because I was curious what causes fans to connect to fictional characters as hard as we do, and apparently it's COMPLETELY NORMAL, has to do with being able to suspend your disbelief and let your imagination take over for just an hour a day, and having a healthy amount of empathy. Humans naturally connect more strongly to people they experience hardships and sadness with, and when you've let your brain escape into the stories on tv, it doesn't know quite how to differentiate in those moments between a real person and fiction, emotionally, and you develop strong bonds to your favorite characters. The PROBLEM comes when your rational brain doesn't kick back on properly and is unable to tell actual reality from fiction. That's where the mental illness lies, not in being able to fall in love with the CONCEPT of a person we admire and want to be best friends with. It's like when children are playing. When they're playing make-believe, they KNOW that there's no danger, but they still feel that excitement and adrenalin and exhileration, and react as if there is actual danger when their Mom or Dad comes in and pretends to be the monster, making fake growling sounds and grippy claw fingers, slowly stomping across the room. But as soon as the game is over, all the fear is gone, and it's just Mom and Dad again. As adults, we don't let ourselves escape into make believe and just PLAY that way because society has trained us to feel that it's unacceptable, so instead, we turn to media to do it for us. We turn off our brains and just live in the stories while we read or watch them, giving ourselves a wonderful little break where we can feel like we're on a grand adventure out in the big, wide, wonderful Universe, before coming back to reality happier and more relaxed, a little more ready to take on the world. Sure, some of those adventures are hard, and the stories are sad, but of it's done well, and Doctor Who does it VERY WELL most of the time, it also helps us learn that change, or death, or sadness aren't unbeatable obstacles that we can't overcome. We say good bye to our Doctors, we mourn their loss and that of their companions, and it can feel like losing an actual friend, because the part of the brain that allows make-believe has accepted that as who they are. But we are also safe, we haven't REALLY lost someone we love, and we can always go back and see them again, just by pushing the play button. So it helps us learn to cope with the heavy, hard parts of life that make us afraid and sad. Honestly, I think that's probably the best lesson the show can teach kids. It's always been a show for children and teenagers, but it has the maturity and depth that lets us big kids at heart enjoy it, too. And teaching children how to cope with these feelings is SO IMPORTANT, but it can sometimes be VERY HARD to do in a traditional sense. It's not teaching you about the planets or history or quantum physics, it's teaching you how to FEEL, and that it is OK to feel, and how to deal with these massively confusing, terrifying things that children aren't yet capable of handling all on their own. Yeah, maybe this was a little TL;DR, but psychology has always been a fascinating subject to me, and I love studying the way things effect our brains. This show in particular does some things that I find absolutely AMAZING, and it's not necessarily things that people think about, most of the time. Sure, it's just a silly, weird show about a mad.alien who travels through time and space in a blue police box, but it does some very special things, for a show meant for children.

Fun fact: it was originally going to be more than just Amy at the end. The earlier draft was printed in Doctor Who Magazine: "He is turning now, seeing all his friends waving at him from the walkaway. There’s Craig and Sophie, and their son. He’s a couple of years now. Turning, there’s Dorium Maldovar. He makes a comical little gesture at his head - oops! There’s Vastra and Jenny, waving. Strax giving a sontaran salute. Brian Williams - a little nod hello. River Song, blowing the sexiest kiss, and winking. And then, there they are, like the King and Queen of the Prom. The Ponds. Rory and Amy." Also, at one point Eleven was going to lose his leg. Glad we were spared that, losing him is traumatic enough as is.

I love how the Doctor's last lines before they regenerate are more of a heartfelt goodbye from the actor rather than lines. You can really tell that those specific lines are the actor and not just lines. 9: Before I go I just want you to know you were fantastic, absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I. 10: I don't want to go. 11: I will not forget one line of this. Not one day. I swear. I will always remember when the Doctor was me. Matt Smith rules. He will always be my Doctor. Mainly because of the chemistry and camaraderie between The Doctor, Amy, Rory, and River Song. I don't know if the writers will ever be able to match that kind of line up and story arc.

The interesting thing here is that the speeches are actually more the opposite of what the actor felt. Eccleston wanted out and really didn't think of his time as fantastic, David Tennant just wanted out cause he had enough, opposed to his last lines as the Doctor. And in contrast to that, the Eleventh Doctor is completely fine with leaving, while Matt Smith was obviously really sad about having to leave, when they announced Peter Capaldi as his successor, he wished him luck but he couldn't even look up because he was so sad he didn't have more time. At least that's what it looks like, that his departure was not his own desire.

12:57 See, its that moment, that makes me realise how much effort Moffat had to put into this. After finishing the Name of the Doctor, Matt Smith told Moffat that he'd do another season - but after doing the 50th, asked to be written out at the end of the Christmas special. So Moffat had to compress the ENTIRE Season he had planned into a single Hour episode. I expect Tasha Lem would have been a recurring character during that season. As would have the Church - with references to the Church that participated in the Crash of the Byzantium. The moment there, where the Church was revealed to be a Past incarnation of the Church of the Silence, would have been a stunning moment. That moment, when Tasha Lem - a heroic character up till that point - made the decree that "Silence Will Fall", would have been the plot twist that ended the first episode of the Two Part Finale. I think it would have been amazing.
@JESK-lx4js4 жыл бұрын
I agree. I don't blame Matt Smith for wanting to leave, he'd done his bit and wanted to move on. However it's fairly clear that it messed up a lot of plans. Moffat chose to use Series 7 to pay tribute to classic episodes and villains because of the 50th anniversary coming up (hence all the Easter eggs). If he'd known Matt Smith would be gone after this he'd probably have carried on with the silence arc. I think we would have seen the Doctor's ongoing efforts to erase himself from history only for them to fail rather than that thread being abruptly dropped. We'd have seen the Kovarian chapter in it's infancy rather than a throwaway line. Given how much effort was put into plotting part 1 of the silence arc it's such a shame they were forced to wrap it up in one episode.

Fun fact for the regeneration scene: Karen Gillan and Matt Smith were both wearing wigs. Matt Smith needed to be bald for a theater play while they filmed the episode (hence the hidden key in the wig scene) and Karen Gillan had to be bald for Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy

I have to say... I got wrecked just like this when 10 regenerated, like beat up the rest of the day kind of wrecked. But this 11’s good bye is still my favorite one. He really conveys the kind of Doctor he was, a kind of hopeful and playful Doctor. This is the goodbye I keep going back to watch because I love his message. “So long as you remember everyone you used to be.”

Twelve has a bit of a rough start, to an extent I think intentionally on Moffat's part, he begins in a very different way than Eleven did, but he's quite possibly become my favorite Doctor, stick with him his character arc is worth it, and Capaldi does an absolutely fantastic job in the role.
@rockandrollfan4707 жыл бұрын
I like him even at the rough start if you look at the classics then you will find out that In between the 11th and 12th regeneration will be dark and that is the vanguard. so he had to be like that but as he goes on he becomes my favourite Doctor. so yes I agree.
@fabianglathe61315 жыл бұрын
SPOILER ALERT( I guess.) The reason 12 has what is perceived to be a rough start, is very simple: right a this point he’s the grumpy old man who took away the cool and loving raggedy doctor we all loved. And in retrospect, that’s great show design: we actually feel like Clara feels in the first episode of next season: we can’t accept him as the doctor. And when Matt calls Clara from trensalore, he also calls us. And when you finally get over your loss of matt, (took me Arya, Donna and 10th in one episode tho), then you realize he’s not bad at all, quite the contrary. You were just biased from the start. But I do think that he even steps up a bit more after Clara is gone. His final specials were absolutely fantastic.

Don’t fret, we will see Matt as the Doctor again in the 60th anniversary in five years time. The genius thing about the 11th Doctor’s ending is that Matt can also return for the 70th, 80th, 90th, 100th and possibly even the 110th anniversary specials without people worrying that he’s “too old” to play his Version of the Doctor again, as 11 can always be found at some point in Christmas on Trenzelore. . Happy times and places.

Oh Sess. I’m sending you so many hugs. Even if you watched this a while ago. Even if we finish this with tears, I just want you to know how much joy Doctor Who December has brought me and many others. I’ve had something to look forward to every day! I’ve spent time on discord servers, talking to others who also follow your channels, hyping reactions, trying to decode your emoji messages, and having so much fun. So thank you for doing this. And what better way to finish of this year of Doctor Who, with your favorite Doctor, than with Doctor Who December? I hope you’ve had fun with it as well (despite the tears), and it hasn’t been too stressful. Speaking of that, it wasn’t until you said it that I realized the one year thing. The rest of us had four years with Matt as the Doctor! Sure, there was a lot of waiting in between, but you’ve gotten all of that compressed. And it seems over too soon. Not that I’m not excited for what comes next, and to see your reactions to it - I am - but seeing you fall in love with this show, and with the Doctor, has been amazing. I knew there was always something you were going to like. I’ve had an interesting week. This Monday, I watched Tennant’s regeneration episodes (a Christmas special and a New Year’s special) with my youngest sister. He’s her favorite Doctor, and so that was quite emotional for her. And then this Tuesday I watched this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, which also started the waterworks (for me this time). And then here we are, with your reaction to Time of the Doctor. So it’s been a week full of Doctor Who feels. But isn’t that amazing? I don’t get the people criticizing you for crying - I cry my eyes out at quite a lot of Doctor Who! That’s just how some people are, and we do want to see your reactions (not to say that we want you to suffer! Eh. But you get what I mean). I think the fact that this show, and certain characters, can bring us to tears is a testimony to them being able to affect us, and to good writing and acting. There’s nothing wrong with being empathic and connecting to characters. Doctor Who has helped me through a lot, and seemingly it’s helped you a lot too. It’s natural to be sad when you lose something that mattered to you, fictional or not. Don’t feel like you have to force yourself to try to go in completely blank with Capaldi, and all that, to make us as viewers happy. I’m not saying don’t give him a chance, or don't have an open mind, far from it, but I think it’s natural to have to take some time after you’ve just lost ”your Doctor”, so if you feel like you need to take some time, or if you don't feel it immediately when you start back up again, that happens. I know several of my friends who loved Tennant certainly took their time with Matt Smith. I think we all get it, you don’t have to defend yourself for being sad that Matt is gone, and not immediately jumping with joy at a new Doctor. It’s okay. That’s the beauty of this show really, it connects to so many people, but in so many different ways. And that means that sometimes things change and it makes us sad. But as Eleven himself says, we all have to keep moving and changing, or we'd all just be standing still. And he will not forget when the Doctor was him, and neither will we. Speaking of the beauty of this show - this episode. Yes, it’s a bit of a mess. Yes, it's very rushed. Do I care? Not really. I love (most of) it! It’s definitely a rewatcher though, I think I kept on discovering things even into my third or fourth rewatch. It’s tying up a LOT of lose ends very quickly, so there’s a lot to pick up from here. But I like it a lot. Hey, it’s the episode that made me cry over a cyberman-head, what can I say? It has so many easter eggs, both to Eleven’s own era, and a few to the Classics. Eleven dancing around with children. Fighting monsters, fixing toys. It’s perfect for him, isn’t it? But my favorite part of the episode has to be Eleven’s regeneration. Because while it’s sad, and while I bawl my eyes out, I think it’s beautiful. His last speech is one of my favorites in all of Doctor Who, and it’s one of those quotes that I’d love to have printed and hung up on my wall. ”We all change, when you think about it, we're all different people; all through our lives, and that's okay, that's good, you've gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be.” - that’s a quote I’ve picked out to carry with me, in my head, and it means a lot to me, more than I can get into here. Funnier fact, when the car alarm went off, I was certain it was a car outside my window. Matt brought so much to this show and to its fans. He was wonderful about it, and I remember I was very sad when he announced he was leaving. It was a bit of a surprise really, even though we of course knew way before this episode. And I miss him, a lot. Even though he's not "my Doctor" (he's a close second, and sometimes I switch around), he was the Doctor when I caught up on the show, he was the first Doctor I saw a live-airing episode of, and he was the Doctor when I was in my biggest Doctor Who loving phase. He means a lot to me too, and to this show in general I think. It was never going to be easy to pick up after David Tennant - but he certainly succeeded. That’s me, done. I hope you had a good Christmas, and a happy New Year. Thanks for everything you gave us this December! :)

Two fun fact, about this episode. 1. Matt Smith and Karen Gillan were both bald. Due to both of them having other film obligation. 2. At 35:17 to 35:30 that background music = "Ring of Akhaten." The lyrics of that song seem tailor to the doctors. Just a example the first verse seem very center on 11. Considering what 11 did on Trezalore (900 years of defending the people there), and Amy last words were to him. While the second verse goes toward the 12th doctor. It's like the swan song of the doctors.

I never understood why people bust on reactors who cry while watching. People who can cry for and over tv shows and movies and the characters have compassion and empathy, and that is never something to feel ashamed of. Also, I thought half of the reason people watch reaction videos was to share the emotions we ourselves feel for the subject matter, to watch others laugh at what we laughed at, cry when we cried, cheer at the things that made us shout "HELL YEAH!" It is a kind of sharing and connection, in this increasingly cold and heartless era. Thank you, Sesskasays, for sharing yourself so openly with all of us.

But look, they gave you _so much_ fore-warning and time to prepare for it, and then he got the sweetest, most heart-warming send-off that any Doctor had ever received. There's not much more you can demand of them. You can't take Matt Smith hostage and force him to pretend to be the Doctor forever. Well, I mean, _technically_ you can try it, but it'd never work in the long run. Moffat has an ability to give hope and rip it away. At the start you see 11 all happy and Christmassy, you think, okay, we've maybe got a couple episodes with him. Then he gets old and that hope is again ripped away. Then we see him getting newer regeneration cycle, and it's a very triumphant moment, but we know the new face is coming. But then he gets young and there's fish fingers and custard. We feel, okay, maybe it's like 10, he gets a year of specials and then he goes. Then we get the speech. And then Amelia shows up. And then we're devastated. And to top it off, Moffat gives us a sneeze of a regeneration and flash. We have Capaldi. Then he makes us laugh again with Capaldi and his kidneys. What a man.

Jim Fish I agree. Capaldi is certainly one of the best of new Who. And Coleman is one of the best companions- I agree with Steve too, for I am baffled as to why she draws so much ire from a section of the fans. But I think Coleman is exemplary, and I am glad that view is shared.
@caomhan847 жыл бұрын
The "Clara hate" comes from a very small and vocal internet minority, like most things of this nature. The Doctor Who fandom is literally millions of people. I'd be willing to bet money that if they were all polled, the vast majority (75% at least) would like Clara. She's my favorite modern companion too, and the journey the character goes on is compelling. It's worth noting that Capaldi also wanted Jenna Coleman to stay on longer than she did. She's more popular than some angry forum posts would have people believe.
@goldleader45007 жыл бұрын
caomhan84 Agreed I actually stopped watching when Jenna left because I thought her character really grew the three seasons she was on. If she stayed for a fourth her character could have developed more. But for Storyline wise I think she is one of the best companions next to Sara Jane and Donna along with Amy and Rory. Plus Jenna Coleman is so stunning to look at. Also there is a lot of people who like Moffatt as well and is upset that he is leaving with Gold and Peter. I'm afraid Doctor Who will become too dark now like it was with David. What I liked about Moffatt is even though his episodes had a lot of plot problems. At least he kept it light and fun adventures. Sure it got dark some but not as dark as Ten's. And Matt and Peter wasn't as arrogant as Ten. I'm in the minority that prefers Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi over David Tennant lol.

I have rewatched Matt's final speech over and over to try and get used to the fact that he's gone, but I turn myself into a sobbing mess every time. Then I get to where he actually regenerates into Capaldi and It's like, 'No no this isn't my Doctor bring him back'

I have a feeling that she's going to be mirroring Clara quite a bit as she watches Capaldi, as far as being very skeptical and scared in the beginning. I hope she ends up loving him as much as I did!

One of the best reaction videos I've ever seen. I know it's seven years too late but I just want to give you a hug! I feel it. Eleven's end ripped me apart, too. So glad you loved this so much and have found such joy in the show.

Thank you for the "Doctor Who December". The amount of time you spent planning and producing videos is evident, and I enjoyed every one. This one the most.

These reactions are really good. I've binge-watched many of the reactions filmed over the last 2 years, and it's sweet to see them go from an unknowing, 'that was interesting' in season 1 to blubbing along with everyone else now. Great series of reactions.

I will always remember when the Doctor was him, and I will always remember how much you love him too. I didn't know many people who loved Eleven like I did before this year, but I'm so glad to have known you and so many others now to share the love with over the last few months. Watching you fall in love with Eleven and Matt has been joyous because it felt like watching my own journey all over again through your eyes. Matt had so much against him when he started since Tennant was so popular but he won me over and by the end of his speech to Amelia in The Big Bang he was MY Doctor. He inspired me to pursue acting further and now here I am studying it at uni. His last words have never left me and it's clear they won't leave you too. Your parting words after watching this episode were beautiful. I really hope you can continue to find love in the show somehow, but if you struggle there'll be plenty of love in everyone who loves you and your reactions to get you through. I still miss Eleven so much, but he's there every time you close your eyes. Thank you for loving Eleven and Matt. Sending big love your way xx

Not to worry, at least Thirteen is being met with unadulterated acceptance and joy. **Removes tongue from cheek with crowbar.**

When he does the “We all change, when you think about it...” speech, it hurts to this day.

Really hope she still enjoys the show after this she got really attached to this era of the show and I’m worried that she won’t be as invested onwards as Capaldi’s Doctor is very abrasive at first

I'm glad you found solace in Doctor Who. I think that's why so many people love the show. It doesn't just entertain you, it teaches and enriches you too.

It's makes perfect sense to cry over a character. When a person dies you're upset because you'll never see them again. If a character you love dies it's the exact same. You'll never see them again and it hurts just as much. Thank you for doctor who December Jess. It brought me back to the fun and happiness that Matt gave us! Can't wait for your reactions for Peter.

I'm a 50 year old man God damnit, and when Amy says "Raggedy Man" the tears we're flowing, first time AND this time. And I'm neither ashamed or embarrassed. I even get a bit sad when i finish reading a good book, even if it's a happy book, because endings are always tough. But watching your raw emotions being toyed with was devastating. You thought he was going but then you got Hope that he was saved.. . and then the final nail goes and you're just destroyed ! I'm sure I'm not alone in really wanting to give you a hug at that point, you just looked so grief stricken. And that emotional connection is why I love your reaction videos. Just the same as it is the reason why I love the doctor. Never let the haters change what you do. It's why we all love you.

Now THAT was a reaction! Aw hunny you poor thing. Genuine hurt and love there. I may have to consider this for my next montage reaction video for this episode after seeing this. Well done. Tears in my eyes x

I cried harder at this than I did when I first saw the episode, so I feel like they should just redirect all their shit-giving to me! Eleven was my Doctor, too. Thank you so much for these reactions, helping me experience it all for the first time again. My favorite era. What's the old line? Some things are worth getting your heart broken for. I do hope Capaldi wins you over in time. He's a hard change at first, but he creeps up on you and slips into your heart. His arc is one of the most magnificent character arcs this show has done, honestly, so bear with him. But nothing will ever top Matt Smith for me.

Don't feel ashamed to cry sweetie. It's always sad to say goodbye, but you'll be saying hello to Peter Capaldi soon. It took me a while to get used to him, but he delivers some of the best performances I've ever seen from a doctor. You'll love it x

Chin up, Jess. It's not over, it's just beginning... again. "We're all diferent people, all through our lives," - and now you get to see another aspect of the Doctor. Brace yourself, and take a DEEP BREATH.... Thanks for sharing DW December with us, it really has been wonderful. I look forward to seeing you continue your journey. Know that we're with you all the way!
