It's true that death can be painful for some people. It's also true that there are ways to help manage and ease pain in the final days of life.

It is amazing how many don't realize that who or what they support goes to their credit. We all need to work on more than our actions, but beliefs about them. If the ritual prescribed by God addresses everything we should or shouldn't believe, disbelieve, do, and not do, how can we expect anything other than loss of God's sanction in other matters when we neglect or abandon even such prayers?

Great story! Makes valid points. But I must say that I used to respect this scholar until he told a very disappointing and exaggerated story of Imam Abbas (as) in our time (in the recent century) in which a man begged Imam Abbas (as) to grant him a boy and if he does he’ll bury him. To the mans luck his wife had a boy so he went to bury the boy and upon coming home after the burial of his son he found the son in his wife’s arms. She told him that a tall man named Imam Abbas (as) came and knocked on the door and gave the child to her. I mean how is this man a scholar and how is this man on course to his PhD ? What delusions run through the minds of all shia scholars that come from all across the United Kingdom (England & Scotland)

Salaam Alaikum. The incident Sayed mentioned is known as Karamat (marvels by Allah's beloved). And such incidents are common as it a belief of Ahlulbayt's School of Thought that Allah has given these individuals power to fulfil other peoples wishes (through the will of Allah). The strange vow by a Hindu is a reflection of his limited knowledge and challenging nature while the act of Hazrat Abbas is a reflection of his benevolence. But yes, if you are unaware of Indian rural culture, this story should seem strange to you.
