We started off the day with the cafe con leche where we met Yohann. A French tall guy who has been walking 5 weeks now and intends to hike another 5 all the way to Santiago. He started at Le Puy France. His goal is to finish in 75 days. He quit his stressful job managing something during the Olympic. His wife gave him the blessing to do this.
Then Debbie, a British lady who now lives in Gambia Africa, wanted to join us as she mentioned she got lost twice already for not paying attention. She further said she’s not very good at directions. She’s very fast, but she injured her groin, so uphill is a struggle, and she decided to only do 5km, then we part ways. What’s interesting is that she slept in the shelter on top of the Pyrenees mountain alone in the cold and dark night. It was dark 8pm, and she was still on top. It will take another 3-5 hours to go down in the dark, so she decided to stay. Layered in all her clothes, lay down the concrete side with her thin air mattress, covered herself with the sleeping bag liner, and slept through the night. What a brave soul!!!! She laughed hard saying look she’s the first person of the day coming down from the mountain!! Very interesting lady.
At 8-9am the countryside was very, very, very pretty. The type where I could only find in calendars as a kid. Temperature hiking uphill was perfect, below 20C?
We passed by very large sunflower field. The flowers look expired and withered, but what’s interesting is that all of them face the sun. The beautiful early morning sun, this made me ask - do they still face the sun at sunset when they continue to dry and ready for harvest? Hmmm, I didn’t think of this before.
We had a very sharp climb and very sharp descent from Alto del Perdon.
